I'd probably catch flak for saying that MC wasn't really trying his best somehow, but what else would explain why MC would do all these extremely risky moves when he's shown to be completely capable of safe macro play in the past? We all know that generally, if you feel you're the better player overall (and with MC's confidence, I don't see why he wouldn't think he's the better player), you should play safe. I'd love it if someone asked MC about that (and also, his 2-0 loss against Check which was also very strange given how dominant he normally looks against Zerg) in an interview sometime, though I don't know if that would be appropriate to do xD Well dominant doesnt mean 100%, even if MC is considered a true bonjwa later is his career is not very likely (to not say impossible) that he will have 100% win. He will always lose games from time to time, its not a big deal, Flash loses games, NaDa lost game at top of his carreer, so does Jaedong. I agree he shouldnt have tried that risky play against ClouD, but mybe he was shocked on game 1 that he actually lost and then tried the cheese on game 2 to break the enemy confidence. He is a confident player and as he said his confidence is his strength and also his weakness. The only thing i know is MC is a monster and i feel for the guy who's up against him. If the guy manages to take a game or a series of him the guy should celebrate a lot because its not very likely if he's matched against him again that the outcome will be the same.
You offer a good analysis of what possibly went through MC's head when he played against ClouD. Another possibility I think is that MC perhaps didn't have any time to prepare for his opponent, so he decided to try to end it early instead of playing against someone he knew nothing about.

MC, the volleyball player who crushes sandcastles without even being aware of their existence.

Crushed MKP in the first two games. Feels like he played right into Marine King's strengths in the next three games where he attacked early and was unable to break through due to MKP's awesome micro.
But then again MC won the first two games in the early game through micro. Not sure what to think of that series. Still an awesome baller though

That series made me so sad MC didn't play to his strengths at all, and apparently he forgot that MKP is the type of player who will throw up tons of rax and just get tons of marines, which is apparently the answer to tons of 1-base pushes that usually outright kill a FE Terran. I was especially disappointed at how he tried to commit way too hard to pressure MKP in the last game. Just an example of a great player trying to do really risky cheese-ish one-base play instead of playing to his strengths.

MC hates marines even more. Sad day for MC fans.

One random thing I'd like to throw out there is that it bugs the shit out of me when some people hate on MC because "he's just some kid riding on Protoss being OP", or something. I remember back in Season 3 when Protoss wasn't doing so well and everyone thought Protoss was underpowered, and MC said something about how Protoss players complain too much about gateway units and that they need to learn to love gateway units. MC also said that Protoss players complain too much about Terran, and he said that he'd show everyone how good Protoss is. And then he did. So it's not like MC suddenly chose Protoss right when Protoss began looking strong - MC MADE Protoss strong almost singlehandedly in Season 3.
