regarding TB's post:
one thing i notice last night about idrA casting is his ability to call players moves much better than other. so i would say yes, idrA is a great caster!

i think it is a little rude of TB to call idrA a bad caster tho.

He didn't say he cant talk about starcraft- he said he is a bad CASTER. Obviously he can give very insightful analysis but he doesn't have much experience casting starcraft.

There's a difference between a shoutcaster and a commentator. A shoutcast is when you say what's happening, a commentator explains what is happening. IdrA is the latter. TB is the former.

And what's the word for talking about 1/4 of what is actually happening?

TB is right, IdrA isn't a good commentator, he isn't even a commentator as he admitted on ITG this week.

He admitted this much as he explained that he's a pro gamer through and through but likes to cast as a distraction. At the same time, most people seem to like his casting because of his incredible knowledge of most match-ups.

It's not like Total was insulting him or anything. I've chatted with him on IRC and he's talked about Day9 being a mic hog during casts; which, after he mentioned it, I began to realize more and more. (He's still a good caster folks, relax).

Idra isn't a good caster by any means, and he would certainly fail is he tried to cast alone. He's an analytical caster, but requires someone alongside him to add energy and makes things interesting. I felt the incontrol / idra combo worked really well yesterday, and preferred it more than gretorp / idra. Incontrol is good at improvising, adding energy to a cast, and in general making anything interesting or finding something to talk about during dead time. That's when Idra can do what he's really good at (offering amazing analysis on a game) without having to fulfill a role he's not that good at.

Yep, the Incontrol/Idra and Wheat/Idra were really good casting tandems. And, ironically perhaps, Idra and Totalbiscuit would probably make a ridiculously good casting tandem.

I doubt it, even with Idra by his side he'd still be clueless. Unlike incontrol that knows what's going on. Totalbiscuit is probably an ok caster, just not a very good sc2 caster.

fixed

Compared to TB, Djwheat is an expert on SC2. Don't get me wrong, I know he's still very much on shaky ground, but still miles above TB.

It was more of a way to attract attention to how incredibly impossible it is to catch everything that's going on when casting even for the pro players. As a result of this the traditional play-by-play/colour casting distinction does not function properly in SC as both casters tend to play both roles.

It's casting style as opposed to what they actually do. If you listen to what TB says, just about 80% of it is saying what we can already see, when you listen to what IdrA says, 80% of what he says is what the player should do or what kind of position they are in.

Bla bla who cares about some self-important "shoutcaster".

We have bigger news than that. Check out this topic here: MLG and GSL Exchange!

- At MLG Columbus, the Top 3 non-Korean finishers will each be placed into GSL Code A.
- At every 2011 Pro Circuit Live Competition after MLG Columbus, GSL placement will occur as follows:
- Code Sstatus will be awarded to the highest placing player, regardless of country of origin, who does not already have Code S status.
- Code A status will be awarded to the next three highest placing non-Korean players.
- If Code S status is awarded to a Korean player, Code A status also will be awarded to the 4th highest placing non-Korean player.
- All travel and accomodation expenses for these players will be provided by the GSL.

If IdrA places in the top 3, he could go to Korea for a month :D

EDIT: also funny how about 10% of the posts in that thread go "but what if idra wins?? will he go to korea??"

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't go even if he got a seed. He's mentioned that he doesn't want to go back to Korea as it would interfere with a lot of what he's doing stateside.

IdrA would probably decline any invitation to Korea anyway, especially for code A since the prize pool is just really awful. Don't forget that he decided not to go to the Super Tournament (which has a huge prize pool).

I think if he were funded to go to Code S and could go back to the US when it's over, he'd have to consider it. I want to see him go after IMNestea

It's an excellent chance for some of the other good foreigners however, which would be cool. Naniwa and kiwikaki would seem like they could make a good run in code a (both are better than huk at least). Sen, select and a bunch others too.

Gretorping? scnr
Although to be fair, he catches most of what's going on but misjudges a lot of it, especially when it comes to direct encounters.

Are they not disappointed in cruncher's trollbaiting of idra? Does complexity believe Cruncher really had no part in this? It takes two to tango, guys. While cruncher's approach is more conspicuous than Idra's, he's been trying really hard the past month or two to get a huge rise out of idra, from "" to stream sniping, inevitably resulting in an idra comment and ban.

"Badmannered"?, yes. "Uncalled for"? Really?

Just curious, does any1 actually know why Idra hates cruncher so much? How did it start? Does idra just hate his play style or something? I find it entertaining so I'm not complaining, but yea seems ridiculous if its just based on Idra disliking his play style.

It's also sad how much hate Cruncher gets here on TL just because of Idra. He's not actually that bad of a player, and if it wasn't for Idra fanboyism I think a lot more people would be acknowledging that. Lol I find idra hilarious and he's my favorite zerg outside korea atm, but its odd how so many people adhere to what he says oO
