Yeah, from what I hear and the few early 2000 VODs I saw, modern BW is ridiculously harder than early BW.
In Grrr's time, it was a lot of 1 & 2 base play. Many cheeses, random builds, and hardly any refined macro games. The great thing about IdrA's BW success is that he did it at the hardest point in BW's time.

Just out of curiosity, I would like to know what book IdrA read...

A Song of Ice and Fire series I can confirm

I should specify: The sports psychology (I think) book he talked about on ITG...

Yep, it's not like he's read one book (series) ever.. I remember him discussing A Song of Ice and Fire on SotG before the TV series started; this is different.

Which is exactly the reason why I want Idra to keep playing MC at big tournaments until he outplayes him completely. Afterwards he'll be a much scarier opponent than he is now.

edit3: wow idra just said he was not fatigued at all by all that matches on last day, and he lost because it was a zvp and he isn't very good at zvp.....wow...that's really mature by Idra....he is so different....i like it!!!!! After his IEM win, Idra also said that he isn't playing any better than he was a month ago.. Idra says a lot of stuff :D + Show Spoiler +Although not complaining about the issue publicly is a good strategy... As a player you don't want to appear to be looking for excuses because your opponents become more confident that they can defeat you, so even if you think that you were in a disatvantaged situation, it can do you good to deny it. Perhaps he wasn't physically exhausted but there's no way that staying in a small booth with cameras pointed at you all the time while being constantly on the brink of elimination isn't at least mentally taxing.
He probably wasn't as fast and accurate for the final games but didn't realise it because of all the endorphine in his system at the time but this is debatable. I'll definitely compare his replays when MLG release them.
What was it he said about Stephano?
|
he said alot about stephano
he said stephano has a ridiculously good early/mid game and a unique style that others havent figured out how to play against yet. and has very good decision making, and overall a good player.
he said stephano isnt very adaptable though and could be taken advantage of.
he said stephano probably doesnt talk very much not bc he is shy, but bc he thinks everyone else is retarded
he said that stephano is unintentionally always hilarious, incontrol agreed
|
His words for Stephano were generally all positive, but he said he didn't expect him to be the foreigner Bonjwa. He said his style would be figured out, and that he would become a top foreigner Zerg but not by and far the best.
|
I think that is generally right, even more so considering that he won't stick around for more than a year
|
Idra has said on SOTG that people who think pro players get 'exhausted' after playing 10 (or whatever number you do in MLG) BOx series in a day don't know what they're talking about. He said he plays 50+ games a day for practice and he has never been tired from playing a lot of games in a tournament and other players shouldn't be tired either (because they practice a lot more than that).

how stephano style would *be figured out that much? he always show minor different stategies and opening from what i saw. His style is really adaptable and keeps changing since HSC.

His style is really adaptable and keeps changing from HSC. Stephano is not 1 dimentional, and he can play standard ZvT when he wants to (he has good muta ling bling micro), but his mass ling and roach infestor centric styles are definitely inferior, and that the games he won with that style were generally due to his opponent reacting poorly.
If his ZvT was as straight up as his ZvP, he would be extremely scary.
|
his ZvT is very predictable was well, especially his over-reliance on roaches. any player with good game reading and decision making skills can and will pick him apart Case and Point: Boxer making him look like a scrub
the reason Muta/Bling/Ling is considered the best and most used ZvT strat is because there is no gimmicks and just straight up play that rewards skill. the better your control, the better your outcome. you will outplay the terran every time if you are better than him.

He would not say what book it was. It was mentioned though that the book was mentioned a few weeks previously on a Live on Three episode.

and Idra zvt is always the same 2 base 4 gas fast mutas bannelings. -_-
Stephano did use roaches because he knew korean terrans like to make mass hellions. He usually rarely uses roaches vs terrans.
"Boxer making him look like a scrub"
and Idra losing to 3 cheesy play vs Boxer and almost 4 (last map with mass hellions) really looks like a scrub not figured out boxer game. Idra star sense on this serie was near to 0. Fortunately he did great vs Bomber after

It's a mixed blessing, Idra being in such great mental shape these days. Where MMA is Boxer's favorite son, Idra could have been his angry rebellious son.
