If sunny wasn't singing in the weird voice that their title tracks made her do it, her vocals has not gotten worst, maybe it is due to the fact that snsd are no longer doing bora or solos but judging their vocal from shitty hit tracks actually is really far fetched
for a girl group, they actually have the least amount of autotune together with kara and afterschool.
Honorable mentions are 4min and t-ara.
I did not include SISTAR and SECRET because they have only 2 promotion cycles.
And getting good songs on albums are far too rare in kpop, the only girl group album with 2 "arguable" good songs was t-ara's repackage album but we had to go through bo beep and i go crazy because of you for that.
On November 15 2010 01:51 Roffles wrote: Here's a chronology for you guys to see how SNSD has gotten progressively worse and worse with some insight because this is a discussion thread that currently doesn't have much discussion.
Chronology starts off with Into The New World, ends with whatever the fuck they're promoting now. If you just take a quick look at the first video and compare it to the last one, you'll see some vast differences. First of which would include the vast differences in the concepts. For the first few videos, you'll see the portrayal of youth. For the last few, you just see some bullshit thrown together by SM along with a really shitty concept.
Ditch the concepts, they're all fucking terrible. From the shitty cheerleader concepts with god awful frizzy hair that looks good on absolutely no one to whatever they're doing now. They're all terrible. Just let them sing the damn song and perform the choreography. Have I also mentioned that their choreography has become really fucking bad as of late? What the fuck is this arrow shooting shit? Only reason Genie was decent was because of the leg dance and the camera zoom on DEM LEGZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. Otherwise, that sucked too.
Secondly, pay attention to the style of music. You'll hear a lot of pure vocals (whether good or bad) in the first few, and they become slowly digitalized towards the end. Nothing new, simply represents the shifting trend of KPop music (which is also fucking terrible). Just a bunch of rushed tracks that are digitally tuned to sound somewhat acceptable. But to anyone with ears and isn't just a fucking blind fanboy, you can tell that this autotuning business is full of shit.
Last but not least, the facial structure on a lot of them have really changed over the few years. It's no wonder they call em Plastic Generation. I thought plastic was supposed to make you look better. Not in SNSD's case though. They've got a few cases of bad botox gone wrong.
Not only have the songs gone down in quality over the years, but their singing, as well as their overall appearance have also tanked as well. But SNSD's success is pretty symbolic of how Korea works. The better the song is, the less they care. Talent doesn't shine, but rather popularity. The shittier the song, the more plastic the group, the more they like them. Pure fanboys and fangirls are so retardedly lol.
For those who don't like reading, here's what a graph would look like. Both Bisu killers represent the min and max of the horizontal axis. Hero would be ITNW, and Zero would be Hoot, while the line represents song quality.
Anyways, without further ado, enjoy the collection of songs by everyone's favorite girl group SNSD, the power of eight.
I agree with that article. I have been watching SNSD since their very early beginning (when they were super girls or something like that and you had one member leaked every day) and my feelings match the ones written up there.
I'd like to point out something else. From my point of view, one of the reasons behind SNSD's degeneration is looks. When SNSD came out, girl groups were almost inexistent, there were some troll bands like SeeYa (lol, amazing vocals tho) and dunno there was young Kara I think but it wasn't too popular, and lots of failure groups like baby vox re.v or things like that, I don't remember well. The kpop scene was dominated by fag squads like superjunior ft island etc.
So, when SNSD came out, even if most of them were too young, it was a huge impact. It was very fresh and attracting. That made SNSD members easily rise to the stardom. Every guy would love them, and they only would be matched temporarily by Wondergirls and their infamous Tell Me. I remember myself falling for every SNSD member except Hyorc. I want to note also that before SNSD there hadn't been huge girl groups since FINKL/babyvox/ses which was late 90s, and that until ~2 years ago the existent girl groups (which was mostly SNSD) only selled the innocent/cute image (check kissing you, even gee, tell me or early new kara songs like rock u). The most nasty thing you'd have up to then was tell me your wish which only had dem legz as a nasty component, but it's nothing really shocking neither sexy.
BUT like 2 years ago (or maybe 1 and a half? I've lost the sense of time) companies decided it was a good time to set up a competitive girl group market. So suddenly you'd see how amazing good-looking girl groups would appear, like AfterSchool (so shocking when they came out, I remember everyone drooling out to tits rubbing in their showcase), new Kara with Gu Hara and KJY cutiepies, T-ara, and lately Rainboji, Secret, miss A, etc. They also were pretty talented.
And then, you got to see how your long-time loved idols were totally outdated against the new boji wave. Taeyeon suddenly went from being the cutest dorkiest thing ever to become just a chinky midget. Jessica went from sexy barbie doll to attractiveless plastic girl. Yuri went from sexy waist dancer girl to massive hip + forehead combo. Tiffany went from delightful eye smile girl to fat plastic girl. And on... the only one not outdated is Yoona cuz she's mighty looking but you don't really go "nom nom" on her. You could apply that to WonderGirls too btw.
And as if it wasn't enough, companies decided like a year ago (or maybe just half a year? can't remember well) that the innocent cute image was out of fashion and that 2010 meant sexy revolution. And all suddenly you had awesome looking girls with really exposing outfits dancing all tempting to energyful beats and aggresive lyrics, like tara's crazy cuz of you, kara's mister, afterschool's bang (afterschool already tried this in their debut with AH just to chicken out with that diva crap), and lately rainboji's a, secret's massic, kara's lupin or miss a bad girl good girl (I'd like to remind that even rainboji or secret debut songs were nothing close to this sexy attractive image).
SNSD had then to adapt to this new trend and tried to with songs like runrunrun or this new hoot thing but has miserably failed, cuz they have no skills to offer this sexy image. They are still popular as fuck because well, I don't know, either the fans are retarded either they've been in the highest stardom for so long that nobody even questions them anymore.
So yeah imo SNSD is just outdated and in a endless downfall.
As popularity goes up so does the quality. This is a trend in a lot of things.
Kpop - Get famous sell crap go to Japan to sell more crap since their so popular and an average person is stupid as shit crap gets sold and Entertainment companies make good money.
Video Games - Sc2. Where is the chat channels? watching replays with friends? cross realm (this I come to accept but still) these are things the original b.net had. When you upgrade you usually keep the functionality of the older stuff and add more to it...
Software - Gets fatter and with more bloatware. AVG was good 1-2 years ago now its just a pile of shit.
They just keep having failed concepts and bad title songs, which has greatly killed their interest.
I was under the impression that 'Hoot' was having a lot of success on the Korean charts? Either way, I suppose they should have just run around with lollipops for a few more years...
You're probably just bored of SNSD. I only recently started listening and all the things that have disappeared for you are still there for me. Who cares about sexy anyway, you can get that from US/UK charts, and it is way boring at this point.
hmm... consuming so much soshi content over the last couple of years; i guess it fucks with your brain structure or something, so that I now look at everything they do with a pair of sone-coloured glasses.
I actually think hoot's choreography is not that bad. Here's the closest thing to a dance version mv:
Nice to have a pretty normal discussion without people in either full anti mode or crazy fanboy mode. I also agree with what most people are saying. I don't like the change for Girl groups to be sexy and with complex concepts, I started listening to Girl Group kpop because of they were not trying to be sexy or complex. Where I do disagree with that chart is that for some reason RDR is one of my faovrite songs along with the Chocolate Love ads by SNSD and f(x). One of my favorite SNSD performances is this one of Tell Me.
They all look pretty normal, no crazy hair or outfits and they all sing normal and sound good to me. Sooyoung and Tiffany look normal here, especially Sooyoung looking hot in that ref outfit.
I wonder how well SNSD would do if SM just let them come up with their outfits and hairstyles.

snsd tell me was one of the first k-pop performances i viewed. i'm being brutally honest in saying stephanie hwang melted my heart that day when i watched that.

Success on Korean charts means very little. Once a group gets popular they basically get rave reviews no matter how good or bad a song/concept/dance/etc. they put out. SNSD was really good early on and I, too, was swayed by Tiffany in Tell Me. Sadly, those days have passed. Anyway, because they got so big back ITNW > Genie, they're able to basically just ride on the past success. They started slacking off even before Oh! (look at the ITNW throwback performances to see how they cut out basically every hard part of the dance), but at at that point that apathy didn't extend to their "main" song. I can't say the same for the current era.

2AM is beating SNSD in the Online download and streaming charts, but SNSD wins in the album sales. It's probably because fanboys buy 9+ albums just to collect all 9 photocards.

Kara doesn't have autotune/you can really hear their vocals in their live performances, but none of the vocals are really that strong so they should probably use a little more. The sad part is that about half of SNSD still have decent vocals, but the other half ruins the whole thing.
i really do hope they just go, 'fuck concepts, we'll just turn them into female suju' and make snsd-tsj (taeyeon seohyun jessica) and snsd-e (snsd english).

It's because you are new. Hang around a bit more and listen/watch stuff chronologically and you'll notice degeneration over the years.
I want SNSD to stay together always. 'Cos more than their music I think I really fell in love with them as people starting from that TV show with Nada and watching more and more TV shows with them. Thats why SME shud stay away from them so that they dont go ruin that "bright innocence" that I associate with them. SME = KESPA in terms of evil-ness imo. Also, all of them can really sing - Yuri and Tiffany can sing Mariah Carey and if that doesn't speak for itself I don't know what will. Sooyoung, Sunny() and Hyoyeon() all have very original voices that really create lovely mood in their songs inspite of being great solo singers themselves. Hyoyeon is given the least parts because she is mostly panting from her power dancing. Please check out youtube to see her sing solo when she doesn't have to dance. Just to remind everyone, these girls were selected, trained and put thru a gruelling re-selection in order to create "the best Korean Girl band" ever in the history of the industry(That was the target SME was working with..). So there is NO way that they are going to be just par or sub-par at anything. As regards my first statement, you can call me a fanboy. I say anyone can hold a tune and dance after mass-training for years in your childhood. But character, individuality, honesty and a lack of letting success go to their heads is what really separates these girls from any other KPop band I've seen and probably will see, given the trends coming out. + Show Spoiler +
almost every single idol group has gotten progressively worse over the years. some solo idols can be included as well.
2pm Again and again to WTF their new song is called. Big bang lies to lollipop. T-ara lies to britney spears song secret i want you back to magic super junior sorry sorry to bonononanao after school because of you to bang wonder girls tell me to 2 different tears shinee replay to ring ding. hello is alright though. the list goes on.
If Roffles made a graph of every popular idol group it would look the same as SNSD. Although the level of shittyness would vary.
Unfortunately, they actually can't. They can sing an English cover to an audience who really won't know any better and everyone will go crazy, but that doesn't really mean they can actually sing Mariah Carey.
I remember a video of Tiffany trying to sing Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis and it was just a trainwreck. She couldn't hit half of the notes she needed to. That's not to say they're terrible singers, but do you have any idea of just how good a singer Mariah is? She's probably one of the best pop singers period in the last twenty years or so.
