snsd tell me was one of the first k-pop performances i viewed. i'm being brutally honest in saying stephanie hwang melted my heart that day when i watched that.
LOL the performance where stephanie hwang had some eye twitching disease?
Unfortunately, they actually can't. They can sing an English cover to an audience who really won't know any better and everyone will go crazy, but that doesn't really mean they can actually sing Mariah Carey.
I remember a video of Tiffany trying to sing Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis and it was just a trainwreck. She couldn't hit half of the notes she needed to. That's not to say they're terrible singers, but do you have any idea of just how good a singer Mariah is? She's probably one of the best pop singers period in the last twenty years or so.
To be fair, that song has to be one of the most difficult songs to cover. Leona Lewis is on her own level, as is Mariah Carey. So Tiffany can't sing like them, but that's not her role. To me she is an entertainer/performer, along with the rest of SNSD, rather than a pure vocalist.
Of course, I'm not saying that anyone in Kpop is up to that level, but I think it's important to make the distinction between singing a Mariah Carey song and singing a Mariah Carey song. And as you said, entertainers =/= vocalists.

Umm. Believe it or not I DO have an idea of how good Mariah Carey is! I sang a duet with one of the girls in my class 2 years back, we lowered the pitch by 2 semitones for it ofc(lol)! And Ofc Leona Lewis and MC have crazee awesome powerful voices that cannot be equalled imo, but Tiffany did a great job of it still... Maybe I'm talking bout a diff video:
This is pretty godtier imho. I was one of the best singers in medical college which is not saying much at all. But I do have an idea about good voices.

I would not mind if they did split the 9 up, maybe not like how you had them but I do think it could work for them. I agree on the whole screw concepts because...

If SM lets them do what they want or somplify things they will most likely still sell tons of records because they do have a big fan base. But then maybe the girls will come up with their own looks and simple concepts that end up being similar to ITNW to Genie days. Doubt it will happen though so Ill just keep listening to pre-Hoot stuff.(Although the other songs besides Hoot on the mini album are not bad.)
I hope this paragraph is actually refering to kpop in general because snsd actually have the least amount of autotunes in their songs. (*hint* T-ara)

Honorable mentions are 4min and t-ara.
I did not include SISTAR and SECRET because they have only 2 promotion cycles.
And getting good songs on albums are far too rare in kpop, the only girl group album with 2 "arguable" good songs was t-ara's repackage album but we had to go through bo beep and i go crazy because of you for that.
why do you keep mentioning T-ara having autotune in their songs? out of 6 promotions, they had 2, but now that I think about it Bo peep really wasn't auto really heavily autotuned, so 1. they had ONE heavily auto tuned song in 6 promotions. and considering that they really aren't that popular in Korea, having that song #1 in download charts for a whole month basically says that the song worked well even with all that autotune. but then, they followed it up with I'm Really Hurt which had no autotune whatsoever, just pure vocals.
plus, maybe you have a really high standard in judging songs but T-ara's repackage had "2 arguably good songs"? seriously? the first absolute album was what made me a fan of them. even before I had to get to know the members, memorize their names/faces and do things that fanboys do. I just appreciated their music. maybe take out two or three songs from that album but it's definitely one of the best albums in K-pop recently.

I totally agree, Absolute is one of my most favorite Korean music albums, and I'm shamed to say it, but I enjoyed the NU ABO EP fully as well.

lol calm down, who else is there to mention beside t-ara. Girlgroup in general does not have the amount of autotune that boygroup use in their songs. so a single track is actually alot in that standard.
no i don't have a high standard, absolute first and repackage is the same album actually without I'm really hurt and i go crazy + Show Spoiler +
if you cant stand your idol group being compared, this thread isnt for you anyway
