Also f(x) who had 1 release and 1 week(? or so thanks Sulli...) of promotions managed to outsell 2NE1. It's noticeable also that Hyosung herself outsold the Secret album...

Kara still fell off pretty hard, #10 woulda been terrible for them a couple years ago.

Short answer, they're not at all. + Show Spoiler [Long answer] + There's a reason why companies constantly release digital singles, unless they've got cash to throw around or in case of Mamamoo there's a sufficient amount of demand that a hard copy be issued for sale. Downloading and/or streaming (buying a 500 generic of minutes for two bucks to be used to listen to anything the music site has on catalog) makes up pretty much most of a music show score. This is due, for the streaming part, the volatility of the commodity and ease of finding out that which people are unable to stop listening for the score, a streamer is pretty much constantly buying whatever song they keep playing. Individual show breakdown: Mnet: I don't know, I doubt anyone can make heads or tale of their clusterfuck of pie charts and rankings they put on air. KBS: 65% digital, 5% physical, 20% performances, 10% live phone in votes. MBC: 65% digital and physical (Really digital is all that matters, which is going to to get more hits for the song on the chart, a guy buying one or two albums or a guy that is logged to listening to one song for an hour + half?), 10% for music video purchase/views, 10% for the 100 or so people that won the lottery for a chance to vote for three songs they like in the top 50, 15% live phone votes SBS: They use Melon so of course 60% of the score is digital, since they're using Melon's and Loen has control over it of course they're going to use youtube views 35% to SNS (divided into twitter hashtagging somehow, but really it's probably mostly the view count on Loen's youtube), 5% for Melon users' votes. If that was a question of how important it is to getting the artists money. Pretty sure contracts require a large amount of discs moved before artists start to see a percentage from the physicals. Digital, assuming it's the download (streaming screws everyone but the distributor, trophy makes up for it...sort of?) for a 1000 won song download: 500 goes to the distributing site, 200 goes to the managing/recording label, 150 goes to the Korean artist union thing, 100 goes to...I no longer remember, and the artists get the remaining 50 won. This breakdown is about two years old though, but I doubt it changed much given the importance/cheapness + variety that comes with streaming

Well, unfortunately the ferry incident happened when they were promoting Mr. Chu, so who knows if they would have been as successful as Luv.

"Mr Chu" came out at a moment when the Apink thirst was at its highest in Korea. Its success when compared to "LUV" is probably purely strategical because there is no doubt that "LUV" is the better album overall, even if "Mr Chu" probably has the better title track in terms of general appeal. When "LUV" came out even I, as the biggest Apink fan there is outside of Korea, wasn't as thirsty as I was for Mr Chu. Mr Chu is the glorious comeback after the ascension to popularity that was "No no no", everyone was eagerly waiting for the album.

I personally liked Pink Blossom more than Pink LUV.
