For what I know, the Japanese and Korean language is in the same language group, distinct from Chinese and other Asian languages. I also find Japanese pleasant to listen to, but most J-pop songs don't really draw my attention.

The way I've heard it Japanese and Korean aren't really in any language group per se, but share the most similarities with each other. Not enough of a linguist to really know why they aren't classified as being in the same language group but there you are I guess

It's a bit difficult to explain..but long story short both Korean and Japanese are heavily influenced by the Chinese language and more importantly their writing system and that's all you really need to know. If I remember right, Japan developed their system from Korea which developed theirs from China, don't quote me on that though. I find it interesting why Korean and Japanese are not tonal languages though like Chinese is, but I suppose that removes one barrier to learning Korean and Japanese.

But fuck this is a great week. New T-ara, TVXQ, and BESTie songs which are all pretty good. I don't know if anyone else feels the same but I've never really disliked any song that T-ara has produced.

No I mean I know that much but Korean/Japanese are not in the same language group as Chinese (nor with each other apparently?) and it's that difference I don't understand. The similarities to Chinese/each other are obvious.

chinese was the main language in korea for a long time, even if it was slightly different to mainland chinas version. however, the only people who could read and write it were high class people, because chinese was too difficult to learn for the lower class citizens. thats why king sejong created the korean language in secret with an easy to learn alphabet so that everyone in korea could speak and learn the same language

The dancing bits looked quite solid (as expected from SNSD), but yeah pretty poor overall unfortunately. I remember when Pandora came out and everyone was shitting over what was otherwise a decent song and dance routine because of the jump cuts, and then this is as bad if not worse.

Oh well, it's not all bad though. The girls look amazing (not to bias spazz too much, but Tiff was just as much of a goddess as usual and Hyo looked absolutely fantastic) and the song is growing on me more and more. I find myself singing the chorus a lot more than I thought I would after the first listen.

In fact the whole album feels a lot like IGAB did after my first few listens: I wasn't sure at first, but now after I'm getting over the shock of it being rather different there's a lot of good songs on there.

Similarly, while nothing on CRUSH jumped out at me before, I'm really digging it now. Some of 2NE1's better songs in a while, and I actually liked some of their singles last year.
