Reading the list of VMA nominees yesterday, I kept thinking Psy/Gangnam Style should've been a lock in this category. Not even nominated once. I mean cmon...
Video of the Year - yes Best Male Video - yup Best Pop Video - oh yes Best Direction in a Video - lol yes Best Choreography in a Video - lol Yes! Best Editing in a Video - yup Most Share-Worthy Video - duh
Isn't that sort of the whole point of Pop though? popular music, it's to cover bits and pieces from all genres so that everyone likes it. The only problem that I have with rappers in groups is that the rappers are bad, but that's like saying I don't like groups where their main singer sucks.
Also, why T-ara doesn't use Hyomin or Eunjung for rap part, to replaces hwayoung? I believe its Areum that did the rap part (and did it poorly, but tbh the rap part was the least of the song's problems).
But the rappers being bad is exactly my point. If they weren't actually part of the group and were picked for their lyrical talent rather than looks/dancing/unnecessary vocal ability then they could actually specialize.
And there are plenty of groups that I can't like because their main vocals suck. f(x) lost my interest shortly after they stopped caring about how they sounded and luna got shafted. Rainbow doesn't have an extremely talented vocalist either. It's not quite the same thing as having a bad rapper though, because rap acts as an auxiliary to the main body of the song.

Hmmm I suppose. But I'd say majority of songs now have done a better job integrating rap as part of the song, as opposed to auxiliary.

lol, well at least he got to dance a little bit.
i'm guessing because its not for american market? maybe i didnt get the joke XD he should be sweeping the korean awards though
I'm sure the VMAs have quite a bit of politics behind them. Considering Gangnam Style wasn't even produced under an american company I'd be a surprised if he was nominated. Now that he's signed though it'd be a (slim) possibility with his next MV.

Secret Comeback is set for 13th.
I think the Grammys are nothing more than some gigantic promotional machine for the music industry. They cater to a low intellect and they feed the masses. They don't honor the arts or the artist for what he created. It's the music business celebrating itself. That's basically what it's all about.-Maynard James Keenan
This is pretty much the quote to describe every awards show, ever.

Maynard and Kpop, all my favorite music in one place <3<3<3 Come on, do you really think a 2 month old Korean song will win multiple awards at an American award show? Come on, yo. Just be thankful that he was even there. Did he ever return to Korea or has he been since he met with Bieber's guy?
I really don't like most "rap" in kpop, it is pretty useless and doesn't add anything to the song. Taking a pretty recent song that seems to be liked here, Bing Bing by Crayon Pop, everything was fine up until the rap which pretty much killed the song for me. It reminds me of T-ara's Why Are You Being Like This, the song was good up until the rap and I couldn't get passed that part in the song. Another example is Wonder Girls' Nobody, the ending rap was just a huge filler to give Yoobin like 20 seconds in the song.
An example of a song which I think the rap fits perfectly is You by Brown Eyed Girls. + Show Spoiler +
As was mentioned before, this is not because of its lyrical value since I don't understand the lyrics at all, but rather how it sounds.
Brown Eyed Girls is a bad example, that's just their style of music, and not to mention, there's no such thing as a bad BEG song. Can't compare other groups/songs to perfection.
There are Girl standards and then there are Kpop Girl Standards.
Anyway ''rap'' in some groups I don't mind, T-ara(Ham Raaaaaap), Miss A(dat Jia), BEG(Miryo p good), Secret is also fine imo even though its not the greatest.
On the other hand stuff like Dal Shabet and lots of other rookie groups always trying it, not always the best.
Had multiple friends in the US tell me that they heard Gangnam Style play over the radio today. Also that morning shows talked about him on award show.

This is going to looks like I'm picking on you, but seriously can we stop this? The parodies are one thing but the Gangnam Style "sightings" are just a whole new breed of annoying.

I think it's as cool as you do, but seriously it's everyday.

Yeah only reason I said it was because my friends from US don't listen to any korean music and just the fact that they know that song and have heard it on the radio surprised me a bit and made me happy to see Psy be able to do something like this.

So you must be super amused right now because stuff like that gets posted here like everyday. It's not even new content like new good parodies and stuff. Was pretty fun at first, but not anymore.
I'm pretty hyped for Crispi crunch's comeback stage, but it seems that I have to wait another week for that . They also haven't released the full version of their other mv.
