To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
No reposting of old material unless justified
Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

Show some love to all of Orange Caramel yo. I'm sure the song/album will be good, but I'm just scared it will sound like all their other songs.
Well Bangkok City didn't sound like all their other songs. And if you listen to the other tracks on their singles, they are quite different, so even if the title track is similar, that isn't all there is to their singles.
(A cover, but the Magic Girl second track is also more down tempo and sing-y rather than cutesy).
One love is my favourite track of theirs. They are different enough to stand out, all their voices are distinctive and pleasing, even though not the most technically brilliant. I know I'm biased because it's OC that got me hooked on kpop top begin with, but they are irreplaceable imo.
Never really ventured into that part of OC. Thank you for opening my eyes, Cap'n!
Am I the only one (rethorical question I guess) who has got to like GS less and less, the more people who got to know about it? It's weird, because I haven't listened to it nearly enough to get tired of it, but it's just... not as cool when everyone and his dog knows about it. I've never tried to be somewhere where nobody knows about it. I was in Korea when it came out where it obviously became a huge success instantly, and when I got home a few weeks later it was popular here as well...

That entire album's really good, it's a shame that Gangnam Style sort of ruined the album, (in the sense that no one will remember that album, just that single).

I don't see how you could possibly agree to the O-Zone comparison. One is a group that got a lucky hit from a country that wasn't trying to promote its music worldwide. The other is an artist who got lucky, and a country which has a music industry which has already started to try and push itself worldwide.
Vastly different situations.
That's why I said "pretty much" and not "completely". That one situation is different, but it doesn't stop the rest from being close enough for spitballs and hand grenades. Most Western, especially American, people who have heard Gangnam Style and/or have seen the video view him as some sort of Asian LMFAO, without knowing anything else about PSY or KPop in general. I highly doubt any publicity that the silliness and simplicity will get is going to help much of anyone else, or even his other works. Hell, Gangnam Style is wildly different from the other songs on that same album, I doubt any of them would test as well over here, even with the buzz around PSY right now.

I also have a hard time believing this will get people into K-Pop. I've yet to see someone who thinks GS is the shit who have even heard of anything else in K-Pop as a result of GS and the people I've tried to show some more K-Pop after this has just shrugged it off as being crap. So not much has changed on that front.

Fawkes surely loves that word.
On topic: It's just that you get sick of overplayed music. Sure, it's a great song, but it doesn't need to be constantly played everywhere. This is biggest downside of going mainstream. I listened to Owl City when he was more underground, and then he was all over the radio and I got tired of his music for a while.

Oh boy, I'm excited for this 500th post. Yuri spam always appreciated.
As far as GS goes for me, I haven't really heard it that many times, I guess my play count for the song is around 20~ which really isn't all that much, considering I've already spammed Secret's new teaser MV way more than that already. For me personally, Gangnam Style losing its effectiveness because a) it's getting popular for the wrong reasons b)the rest of the album is actually much better than Gangnam Style.
