When I was 9-11 years old, my dad was in the US Air Force. He was stationed to Korea, so in 1994 we moved to Hannam / Yongsan-dong in Seoul. We lived there for 2 years.
Anyway some of my fondest memories from my childhood were made living in Korea. I loved it so much. I remember going to Yongin Farmland (now called Everland), the Korean version of Disney World. During these visits and times being taken to the markets and streets of Seoul, I can remember hearing Korean music. I loved it and came to recognize many songs. Unfortunately I didn't take enough notice of what the songs' names were or who the artists were, or if I did, I've forgotten over the years.
Now, I am trying to recreate the experiences of the songs from my childhood. Since I don't know any of the artists or songs, only the sound, I have no idea where to begin to look for what the top pop songs were from the 1993-1997 era of popular Korean music. I remember that the songs were much less 'Americanized' than the modern Korean pop, they had a sound to them all their own.
My question is: Is there someone here who could help me find a site or collection of music from this era? It would be so amazing to listen to again, and to share with my family who would also probably remember it with fond memories as well. Thanks in advance!
On a different note that Nep song is really good and catchy! Gonna have to keep my eyes open.
Thanks for trying. I wasn't able to find anything by the four 90's groups listed on that Chosun site that I recognize, most of those girl groups's work seems to be very late 90's into the 2000's.
However I did find a blog here on Team Liquid that starts to point me in the right direction, however there isn't alot of content and I would still love more input from other buffs here on this thread.
Here is one song I found that I remember hearing at Yongin Farmland:
Update: Oh cool I found another one! You can see in the music video that it was actually shot at Lotte World in Seoul (another amusement park, indoors) and also Yongin Farmland (the outdoor location with the castle).
Dunno if peope who got into kpop through bubble pop or the boys can really appreciate the wonder girls if they weren't around the good old "Nobody" and "Tell me" times, you just simply dont start to hate a veteran group because their new stuff is shit and their "Be my Baby" Album has some decent tracks, but the recent stuff has been really subpar
Seo In Guk + Eunji couple stage too op, I didnt really pay attention to A-Pink until now ( yeah shame on me) but I might check them out after watching reply 1999 haha.
doesn't hurt that eunji has the voice of an ~*aNgLe*~ and they used clips from the show... literally the best drama of all time... but seo in guk looks funny he has bumps on his skin. makeup artists pls do your job better.
Haha just listened to hwayoung's rap clip. She may not be very good but I look forward to seeing if she can be successful solely by riding off t-ara's antifans.
Hwayoung's clip was pretty interesting. I hope she can get a better backtrack for whatever she's planning. Did she produce this herself? Or does she have another company already helping her out?
T-ARA's robot dance gives me a weird vibe. For some reason it makes me think that they're just robots being controlled by KKS. Am I just reading into that way too much?
Finally, Eunji and Seo Inguk are so OP. I don't remember who said it, but the best way to since is to sing as if you're singing to someone. I felt like they were singing to each other.
In one of their latest Reply 1997 episodes, they share a kiss in a stairwell, but it kind of turns into a make out session. It looked so real compared to most drama kisses I've seen. Maybe because she actually kisses back rather than stands there blankly.
Edit: Video
Edit, edit:
Crayon Pop just posted their schedule on Twitter and a Maxim photoshoot is on it. What.
That IU gave me an incredible shock o.o Assets too big, gave it away. Still very impressive tho. Head form too sharp and it's probably an angle thing so she got lucky ^^
Reading too much into it. But no doubt CCM hired people to cheer for T-ara comeback yo! Hopefully not and they can just slowly climb their way back like Jiyeon did. At least Hwayoung is trying :o GL to her real.
So many things to do that I have no choice but to give 1997 a miss :/ Eunji gud tho...
edit* Ahreum's skin is too fair for her to have blonde hair, that's why she has this lifeless vibe going on. Like all her energy drained from her, looks bad. And I thought it looked weird in the MV but during the performance it looks even uglier. The part where they all drop down to squat... Not exactly elegant eh?
