I believe KARA were owed 200k in 2010 (lawsuit thingy), which isn't bad but for a top star isn't great either. And no, you shouldn't feel bad for SNSD. As the most popular girl group they do make alot. However, just because Jessica drives a BMW doesn't mean that all idols are well off. The "idols are poor" statement is more true for middling to unpopular girl groups- I doubt anyone in Rainbow, Secret, Girl's Day, etc. are driving BMWs or making anywhere near what anyone in SNSD, 2ne1, T-ara, etc. are making. I'm pretty sure they get designer clothes and leased cars from their companies when they actually need to look good.

I tried to find information about salaries and earnings for some of these groups but I could never find anything. I just assumed that it wasn't public information. Which sucks because I'm very curious on how they get paid and how the groups are structured (profit sharing etc etc).

Some groups make more than others (obviously) but neither has released an official statement about income so far iirc. Most are just educated guesses. The only thing we can be relatively sure about is that they don't make money like stars in the west do. Same goes for profit sharing. Some groups split money in equal shares no matter how much the respective members contribute (TV commercials, photoshoots, variety shows etc.) Other groups factor in every member's personal "value".

Someone was saying she is not talented, overrated? Are you deaf? That girl is f'ing good, period. She has one of the best voices out there. edit: About idols being poor...that jacket Sooyoung was wearing at the airport yesterday costs $2k. Only the so-so idol groups don't make a ton of money. Basically, CF's = cash cow, so if you endorse a lot of stuff, you have a lot of money. Oh and if you are big in Japan you make a lot of money. Soo's jacket could have been a sponsored thing, it was Burberry after all, but they have a lot of money and could buy that stuff if they wanted.

as for idols making money, I am sure SNSD, KARA, 2NE1 and T-ara make some money, but they are the most popular groups in Korea and even then I don't think theyl gain a nice income percentage wise, but theyl still have money. I am unsure on how some groups are paid, indivudually or if they share everything though, seeing as alot of groups have members with different amounts of popularity I doubt all members are paid equal all the time. The smaller groups, I doubt they make much money.

I can't be the only one who finds this phenomenon of pulling 2nd/3rd generation Korean expats from around the globe to sing in pop charts hilarious. Can you imagine the reverse happening? Like a western talent agency holding auditions in Asia to find talented white singers to market back at home. Bizarre. ![]()
