This is my personal (slightly biased) opinion on BigBang, as foreigner who never lived in korea:

As far as I can tell BigBang are the kings of the current Kpop Generation. They are just as good as presplit DBSK was before them if not better. While I don't know if it's true that Super Junior is more popular in korea ( if yes it's because of 13 members -> more appeal to more fangirls, kinda the SNSD effect, but I love Soshi don't misunderstand) but from the many (or few since BigBang doesnt appear in many) variety shows I've watched you can tell that BigBang are always treated as top tier stars and you can tell that lots of other celebrities are genuinly their fans and don't just fake it for the shows sake/ because the scipt tells them to.

They have many High profile stars that have constantly showed that they are their fans ( Lee Hyori, Yoo Jaesuk) and I think although they are technically labeled as Idols, they are respected for being artist like normally only the veteran singers or superstar actors would.

Although they have tried sideprojects with acting etc. you never lose the impression that music is their no1 priority and they are not fuckarounditis like SuJu who seem to be comedians before singers. ( subjective: but let's be honest who likes SuJu musically)

BigBang's fanbase is ver strong and while I don't consider myself a VIP because I really enjoy lots of other bands, I can't think of another group that would have survived last years 2 incidents practically unscathed like they did or at all.

I don't know why I just wrote that up ^^ just chilling with "Blue" on repeat and too lazy to study for exams :D

I'd agree with Big Bang being the best there is right now, but pre-split TVXQ is on another level imo

Was going to say this. Doubt another group will reach TVXQ levels of skill...the talent and huge amount of money that had to come together for that to happen is unmatched.

Also, KARA got lucky. DSP used to be big but aren't anymore, and KARA was basically unknown until Mister. They got lucky with that song being both catchy and some choreographer coming up with the genius idea of having them shake their asses.

Basically any big 3 girl group (+Cube, but they've got connections through JYP so it's not quite the same) need a good song and incredible amounts of luck to make it big.

Well, Secret made their company rich, f(x) still isn't that awesome and indeed Kara got lucky with ass shake.

Infinite has the same problem I'd say ^^

Like you said Kara gets all the marketing...Rainbow not as much...and personally I like Rainbow more then Kara...I wish they would do more marketing for Rainbow...

2009 had F(x), 2NE1, T-ara and 4 minute, T-ara got lucky because they were unqiue as they were hyped as super rookies and had alot of predebut stuff(both Ham and Jiyeon), the other ones were big 3 or cube and they are currently popular groups, Rainbow was crushed under the competition back then. Secret didn't get their big break till '11, when all the big girl groups already left town(reason why they didnt get very far on the charts with Love is Move) by WG and SNSD alike.

There are some exceptions, such as Sistar,T-ara,After School(up to some degree) and Kara and(who had a breakthrough with Mister cause of the choreo and catchyness of it and Rainbow is not one of those exceptions, Secret up to a degree I suppose is also one of those exceptions, however I think IY helped them alot with that and it took them 2 years with eveyone out of town.

Also I feel(but this is personal I suppose) that Rainbow does not have that one member that stands out and or has a pale skin and stuff such as Sohee, Sunhwa, Yoona, Jiyeon, Sulli and Hyunah(admiteddly also most of them big 3) but they don't have that single member that stands out to the koreans much.

Look at CCM and DSP, both have one huge group, T-ara and KARA respectivly, yet their other ''projects'' dont seem to do well with the exception of Davichi(and that is only marginal success).

And then there is the what, ~30 girlgroups who have debuted last year?The only one who is succesfull is Dal Shabet because appearently they had enough money to throw in 3 (or more) promotion cycles in a row with never a break, and they aren't even that succesfull, on the other hand we have A Pink, who with excellent marketing is already big and won their first Mnet award.

Yet the other girl groups, numerous as they are , are nowhere.

So yeah, being part of big 3 (or cube) is a pretty usefull skill toi have because as it turns out, in pop music, money and connections are pretty important

I remember hearing Seungyeon's sob story about Kara failing with their first album and being made to go on variety shows being presented as the girl from the unknown group, a joke, and started liking her even more after that. Crosseyed cutie that she is. Their music is barely listenable though, and I give anything a fair chance. Wanna was catchy.

Woohoo Big Bang! I loved it. Hopefully they'll have some more upbeat tracks on their new album. I love seeing foreign girls in their videos, they never fail to have them!

So just preordered BigBang's album from Yesasia and Blue is still on repeat ^^

when a few of you posted your rooms with posters I have to admit that it was abit weird to have too many posters on in your room but what I just found blew my mind, poor guy will probably never get any action from a real girl in his room.

Oh my god, watching that video was like a journey into an insane man's soul... I don't like using the word creepy as it has been said about me before lol but I feel like it's unfortunately the most appropriate one to describe that video. And the filming style with the breathing but without commentary as if not to reveal his voice. Damn...

That guy must be responsible for one of the girl's yearly salary or something.

Not the first time I've seen something like that tho. On some of the fansites, some fans just like dedicate their entire self to just follow and spazz about an artist. It's like their entire identity, who they are as a person is a fan of X. Now I'm not the most mentally sane and stable guy around but that is pretty crazy. Like I love Nicole with all of my heart, for various reasons, I'd go as far as saying that she plays a significant role in my life at the moment but as a person there's much more to me than just love for Nicole... Anyways...

Interesting video to say the least.

Haha I can understand you TuElite, I mean when I'm at the gym on the treadmill for 50min I try to sometimes distract my mind by imagining how cool it would be to chill with the BigBang guys or if a friend set me up on a blinddate with tiffany or so just to not focus too hard on running while actually doing it.

You may be one of the harder fanboys but it's not like we don't appreciate your post haha. But when I saw that video I was really shocked to say the least.

I really like Daesung's and Seungri's voices in the new song. I think the song is actually pretty good and it grows on you the more you listen to it. I'm glad they changed it up because their last couple songs kinda sounded the same and Lies/Haru Haru were the only songs I actually thought were good. Not bad

Although this is probably a repost, here's a cover of Lucky by Jung YongHwa and IU. IMO they should make a small subgroup and create an album or something cause their voices resonate well with each other.
