To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules; - Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
- When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
- No reposting of old material unless justified
- Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
- No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
- Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
- No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
- No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
- Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)
Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up. |
Those last few posts made me wonder about the racial distribution in this thread.
Poll: What ethnicity do you have?Caucasian (101) 55% East Asian (64) 35% Other (20) 11% 185 total votes Your vote: What ethnicity do you have? (Vote): East Asian (Vote): Caucasian (Vote): Other
I just added Caucasion and Asian because I think that'll cover most. I'd have added "Neither but grown up in an Asian community" or smthg along those lines but I think that's too big of a minority or hardly relevant.
The question I posed myself was just how many people are like me, i.e. having no link whatsoever to Asian culture (background, family, living there, friends etc.) but still somehow found their way into liking Kpop. This is the best way that I could think of to stuff that question into a single poll. If you have a better idea, feel free to provide it.

I have a feeling that there aren't too many actual Koreans here hahaha

Im at this japanese restaurant and i walk in and hear familiar music. Took me a second to realize it's Nagging, except seulong's voice is 10x higher. Then I Need a Girl comes on and i compliment the manager for their excellent taste in music, as the song switches to a big bang song i cant name.

It's not good. I know it was not as good as Rainbow's other songs, but they are going to make korean comeback soon, so lets endure the pain together and wait ^_^. I like the first two verses but the chorus really ruins the song for me =\ When's their Korean comeback?
There isn't an exact date but it is around end of march to April.

This subscribe thing has allowed me to maximize my time spent with kpop. No more unnecessary clicking into the General forum and getting sidetracked!

Yet the only person I am able to talk to about kpop a little bit, is the only Asian friend I have.
Also since I got back from Paris I manned up and hung up a poster, then took it down and replaced it with this. + Show Spoiler +

Ofc the majority of people who frequent this thread are going to be caucasian. TL is an American SC site. Go to a Korean website with a western music thread and ask how many of them are caucasian, same result, I bet.
Love me some Kpop.

Speaking of white people!
errr, its a hwayoung pic. She looks sorta sleepily but otherwise gorgeous. Love the sleeping bag shirt and plastic plate hemlet.

I think it's similar to here, where most people I know hate what's on the American top 40 or is considered to be American/western pop. Prolly the same over there (but less so, since there isn't the same kind of hipster hate shit that's popular angst that there is over here, or at least that I know of), where most don't really like pop music and listen to other shit instead.

A lot of the appeal for me is that I don't understand what they're saying... because I do understand western pop, and the lyrics are almost always garbage. I've always been a fan of music in foreign languages like german rock, french rap (try it!), and italian ballads.
