in the idol industry? I could probably name a total of maybe 7 or 8 and I'm not sure if half of them even qualify as idols. + Show Spoiler +
shin yong jae kim jin ho lee haeri younha changmin seulong kim yeon ji
I'm not even sure if younha, syj, kjh, or kyj even count as idols in the strictest sense.
haeri isn't an idol either lol. But you really think changmin and seulong stand up to IU? That's really debatable, and even harder to debate cross gender when you're talking about range, tone, pitch, and intensity.

Davichi is widely considered to be an idol group, therefore Haeri is an idol.
edit- and when he said "in the industry" I interpreted it to mean the music industry cause I don't really consider kpop/kidols to be an industry of their own.

and IMO anyone in 2AM>IU.
Did they become an idol group recently? I can even remember just a year ago they weren't recognized as idols, but as a singing duet. Of course I meant the idol industry, since it is it's own thing. Obviously if we were talking about korean music industry in general there are 100's of singers better, and in the top 10 there are 0 idol singers. It's just a different caliber of singing and a completely different audience.
To go as far as to say all of 2AM>IU is ridiculous. Jo Kwon and Jinwoon aren't notable singers at all, and Seulong isn't that great either. Changmin is close, that's why I say it's debatable.
@Method singing is all subjective, but to say half of a ballad idol group isn't that good at singing seems to be...just wrong to me idk.
As for IU, I would say that she's above average; she's got good range (high notes in Good day) and her voice is pleasant it's just missing...oomph for lack of a better word. It's in tune, her voice sounds good, but there's not much more to it other than that. There are main vocalists in idol groups that I think are better. But better and best are all subjective anyway, so w/e.
@Cubu unless you know of a way to magically lift and grow chest sizes, yeah. It's pretty obvious.

IU's Immortal Song 2 performances were really pitchy and mediocre in comparison to some of the other idols. She's good when she's singing song within her range, but pretty average when it comes to singing with emotion.
I agree with Dystopia, music is an artform and art is definitely subjective. Each singer has his or her own way of expressing. Some may like it and some may not. Kinda like Picasso and Monet. Both great artists but different styles, different preferences.
