To ensure this thread won't be closed, you must adhere to several a number of simple rules;
  • Please use spoilers when quoting a post with pictures and/or videos.
  • When posting large quantities of media (pictures or videos), please begin spoilering after the first piece. Grouping related videos in the same spoilers & labeling is recommended.
  • No reposting of old material unless justified
  • Posting any material with little or no relevent discussion accompanying it
  • No passion-induced flaming of each other because 'x said y sucked' etc.
  • Keep the expression hate of music individuals/groups to a minimal level
  • No 'pagetopping' in any form whatsoever, as it constitutes spam equal to posts similar to 'first'.
  • No vulgar fan fics or wet dream stories. It is creepy, weird, and it dehumanizes the people who you are here to celebrate/discuss.
  • Normal posting standards that you find throughout the rest of the site still apply and will be enforced more strictly from here forward (2012/03/11)

Due to the poor nature of this thread in the past, temporary two-day bans will occur more than often if people slip up.

Could someone more familiar with korean culture tell me why two idols in their 20's dating turns into a huge scandal with antifans etc.? Seems like it happens from time to time and i find it so weird that it's considered such a big deal.

MR is music removed or something like that, where any background noises are minimized and bring out the full vocals of the singers. It isn't a great benchmark and most of the videos that are out there are cherry picked.

fangirls get angry when their oppars are seen interacting with other females. doesn't help that kpop fans mostly consist of 12-18 year old girls.

If you haven't read it yet you should. Shit is pretty crazy, from girls using their blood from their period to write messages, to actually cutting themselves (wrist, neck). Creepy as hell man creepy as hell.

So i'm kind of surprised that GD chose to speak in korean instead of english in his speech. But seriously any of the bigger Kpop groups would have won in that award because all of them got pretty dedicated fans that actually would bother to vote.

MR removed aren't always the good way to determine their skill, but people like it somehow. It's not really accurate, should use the album version but then that's recorded. Upbeat dance music should never be MR.

Sixsense rocked the MR tho :D

Anyways, I can stare at Hwang Mi Hee all day... http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/hwang mi hee yes, this is my homepage now.

There's a tradition of giving and receiving in asian culture. As a hardcore fan, you're supposed to support your group by buying albums, going to concerts, cheering for your idols, wishing them to do well and in general, suffer with them in bad times and enjoy their success with them in good times. In return for that emotional involvement fans can expect some quid pro quo from their idols. Basically that means they have to behave in a way the fans want them to: put in the effort to look good, act nice toward their fans, perform without showing they're tired or bored, report on their daily lifes by twitters and appearing on shows etc. That idea seems to contain the principle that the idols belong to noone but their fans. And having a relationship is taking attention away from the fans as it is a complete engagement towards a third person. Fans don't like that and act accordingly.

edit: I just saw you referred to antifans. I'm kinda clueless in that regard, I don't know what their deal is anyway. Maybe the article linked above can clarify that although having read it, I see they don't have an explanation either.

Isn't Block B one of the more unpopular rookie boy band in Korea? They seem to be overshadowed by b1a4 and Boyfriend. So it makes sense they weren't nominated for the MAMA.

And haha, Woohyun is pretty weak as a standalone vocalist. I'm a fan of Infinite and I gotta admit I can't stand to listen to him most of the time on IS2. But as part of Infinite he does his job well though.

Sound messed up overall. Seems like idols don't really live real lives at all then, just fake ones where they play their role? Even big hollywood stars aren't treated like that...

Sad but true. They have to fulfill a certain image and they work their asses off for it. Without their image, they're nothing. That's where a lot of taboos come from: promiscuity, drugs, lazyness, or disrespectful behavior are looked down upon. And newspapers (or AKP) don't hesitate to post anything that could cause a scandal.

And yea, Pete Doherty would laugh at that.

Because people are fucking crazy.

I honestly don't know how else to talk about contemporary Korean culture.

Korean media has always been a great way to establish a bond with our idols, people feel like they personally know each and every one in the industry because they partake in shows that bring out their personalities (or just personas). In turn people believe they are tied to them. This is especially in girls who are fans, most of them will believe they are the only ones who are right for their "oppa." When they are seen with other girls (particularly celebrities) they go pretty crazy. Two things could happen to them, become an anti-fan of the person they are dating, or just hate your idol for making a bad choice. While some can be reasonable, sadly the majority is not. For a small example Leetuek's We Got Married with Kang Sora. The first episode showed the fans unable to accept his marriage, even though it is virtual.

As for their images, they have to be maintained, slight issues such as manners are looked at and nitpicked pretty hard. e.g. Tiffany's American manners, or T-aras stage manners. They are even criticized for their facial expressions. (Yoona and Taeyeon at MTV interview)

I'm sorry, but T-ara is never gonna amaze anyone with their dancing or vocals.
