Yall are forgetting some of the things that made IY1 successful, regardless of individual idol popularity. The show was hilarious because of notable pair dynamics ala Shinyoung + Sunny, Hyomin + Sunny, Taewoo + Yuri, Hyuna + Hara (Narsha + all male cast/guest? haha). Individually, the cast might be plain and boring but who knows, maybe something interesting will arise. Boom is known to take care of his cast as an MC so I'd rather hope for the best for the show, rather than count it out already.

You are forgetting that

Hyunah is the most popular member of 4minute(by FAR)
Hara is the most popular member of KARA
Sunny and Yuri are SNSD so thats a given, plus Yuri was pretty much godtier at that time, I still remember that scene where she had to grow that thing or whatever and she was wearing something bery bery nice.
Hyomin is fcking godtier, but gotta say she did well together with Sunny
Narsha added dynamic to the group being from BEG and well, old as hell, plus she is prolly the most popular after GA-IN(now we have an orc and a man instead to add dynamic)
Sunwha was a newbie I guess.

PJY and Suzy together would make the show epic.

My point was, their "individual popularity" didn't make the show funny. C'mon, after the first 15 ep. the show's plot started to get repetitive. What gave it substance was the hilarity that came hand in hand with the reality/variety aspect of the show, seeing city girls do farmhand work. The pairings that developed from it was really "it", at least for me. Shin young is hella funny, but when Sunny, Yuri, and Hyuna left ... it really meant nothing. Even Taewoo got stale w/o Yuri. Even the addition of Jong Min couldn't save it, and that guy is funny as F.

But I understand your point, 2009 was the real beginning of the girl group monopoly. 4Minute only debuted that year w/ Muzik, Kara hit it big w/ Honey, Pretty Girl, and Mister, and SNSD... well its SNSD. Makes you wonder what would've happened if Hyuna stayed w/ Wonder Girls. Probably nothing different, but oh well. Now that they're a dime-a-dozen, who knows how the show will fare. Can only hope for the best.

P.S. Victoria, deadweight Jooyeon, and the other chick really didn't help either T_T After Victoria came in doing cartwheels I knew it was the end lol.

Yeah but their individual popularity is what draws viewer ratings, which are needed to keep the show alive. I'm guessing you only watched the show initially cause SNSD was in it- if the lineup is comprised of 8 trolls how many people will watch that show? I'm betting not enough to keep it going for more than 13 or so episodes.

Actually I watched while I still lived in Korea, a little bit late about 6 episodes in. The show quickly became a household name when it first came out so that's why. I watched all of it weekly since then. W/ some what of a reputation built by the first season, I'm sure people will at least tune in for the first couple of shows to see its worth. To me, individual popularity is what snags viewers at first, then content will keep the show alive, not the other way around. There's enough names in there to keep the show going for at least 13 episodes like you said, how they will do after is up to how well they do, not so much their popularity. Granted, it's a show w/ idols, the epitome of face value, but what we look for as in a show as foreigners isn't exactly 100% what they do there. Like I said before, Boom is a good MC, I hope he'll take care of his cast.

The only thing that caught me on was the fact they all seem a few years older then the previous cast. Cept Narsha. Including her would probably make the average age the same

We all know the show needs Shinyoung, WHY IS SHE NOT INCLUDED?! meh really....
