Kyoani exerts pure focus on one or the other. I didn't really mind the transitions between comedy and drama. It was usually handled well, with long stretches of drama followed by stretches of comedy. Compare this with, say, Angel Beats, where they flip-flopped between the two multiple times per episode and in the process, thoroughly destroyed the mood. In addition, the drama/comedy interplay helps contrast Sousuke's conflicting sides: on one hand, he wants to be a normal boy, but on the other, he's a hardened killer. Heck, this is the entire theme of The Second Raid/Ending Day by Day. The student council prez also touches on the subject in the LNs in a pretty awesome scene.

Slow arc is slow. The last episode made up for the other three though. The end was kinda depressing though. Even if the punishment was just, it was pretty much the worst possible outcome for all parties involved. Denpa Onna was weird as hell.

From the first episode I don't really know where the anime is going.

I'm usually not one to complain about following the laws of physics or suspension of disbelief or stereotypes or unoriginality or JC Staff hardly trying. But yeah... + Show Spoiler + Following the laws of physics - I watch anime no problemo suspension of disbelief - Again, anime... stereotypes - Anime loves its stereotypes unoriginality - Yeah... anime... JC Staff hardly trying - They didn't try with Ookami and I liked that They're really pushing it with this one.

Still, it feels like it could have been so much more if it was something else then a Yu-Gi-Oh / Pokemon show. Ill keep watching but i think that once the fights start ill lose intrest, but the first ep was better then i had expected it to be. I'm just mad because I expected an economics anime ![]()

When i saw the trailer and realised it was nothing like that my expectations went from high to nearly nill. I still decided to watch it and even though i expected little from it and it was nothing like what i was hoping it to be (economics) and everything i was afraid it would be (yu-gi-oh/pokemon) i still found it fun to watch. The execution just seems right on the mark and the first ep doesn't even involve much fighting. Depending on how heavy it will focus on the whole fighting part it might end up being pretty generic and i actually fear that that´s where they will try to go. Still, for what it is, it´s not half bad at this point.

Hayashimizu senpai is so awesome, why don't we get more of that fan wielding bugger. and Oren of course. Something about how he never got around to watching the show because he was too scared of being found out or something. The most confusing thing about the LNs, imo, was the random tiger out of nowhere. I believe Sousuke explained the tiger once in the long stories. Though the tiger did get a pretty good short story. Sousuke somehow got his hands on this tiger, who was his comrade in war in a fashion, then tries to keep him as a pet.
