Hell, that was better and more well-made than the original series, IMO. Absolutely beautiful art. Years ahead of its time. And like Conquest, it had that different feel. More... realistic. That's the best way I can think to describe it. Honestly, I wish that I had watched Conquest and Overture, then started the original series from ep three or whatever. I want to assume that they are canon. Because they are much better than the first two eps of the original. The movie was not without its inaccuracies though. For instance, when Lap died in the original, he took out a picture of Jessica. In the movie, he has her handkerchief. Another example is that when Yang's ship was hit in the original, Attenborough sustained a broken arm or something. In the movie, he was perfectly fine. Paeta's injuries also seemed less severe in the original. Finally, in the movie, it was winter on Heinessen and Odin. Evidenced by how Reinhard could see his breath after seeing the Kaiser, and when Yang visited Lap's grave at the end. Also, Attenborough was with him in the original when he visited Lap's grave. There were some other smaller differences, like what people said or where exactly they were, but that would go into extreme nitpick territory We also got the backstory of Astate. I felt that it was much needed, because there was so much I didn't understand about it when I first watched it. The stupid nobles took Mittermeyer, Reuental, and Mecklinger from Reinhard, explaining why only Kircheis was with Reinhard. We also learned about Lap, which helped me sooo much. When he first died, I was like, "Who the heck is this guy and who is he getting a main character's death?" Now I'm legit sad that he died Fahrenheit actually got some lines too. It was actually some nice foreshadowing for him joining Reinhard's staff after the Lippstadt War. Also, does anyone else think that it would be kinda interesting to see more of Yang and Attenborough as staff officers? I found it pretty entertaining. Also, the series as a whole does not have enough Reinhard+Kircheis+Annerose scenes. I love those scenes. I feel like it's the only time that Reinhard is ever truly happy. Though, there are things that the series as a whole could have less of. Like the retarded commanders. I can understand it on the Imperial side, due to all the nobility and favortism etc.. But why on the Alliance side? I'd be all right if they had just gone through a huge era of peace. Because there wouldn't have been any wars for people to distinguish themselves in (I imagine that the beginning of the war had many inexperienced commanders who struggled in real battle). You'd think that in a 150 year war, only people with actual skill could be fleet admirals. It's not like the Alliance was that short on manpower at the beginning of the series either >.> Now, for funnies. I lol'd when I saw Housewife Julian again. I can't even remember the last time he appeared like that. And it even gave Cazellnu an appearance. And I lmao'd when Yang trolled Trunicht when he asked what it takes to win a battle. It was right in front of Paeta too. What's worse, is that Trunicht fell for it -_- The only thing missing from the movies was Rosenritter pwnage. And Bagdashu. This made me sad ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/h1kKB.png) ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/idhVT.png) Will watch Golden Wings this weekend. + Show Spoiler +Overture was an excellent movie, and really did the first 2 episodes very well. So much more content, and the content that was already there got improved. It actually turned Lap into a character. We got to see more of the relationship between Yang and Jessica too. So many things got expanded upon. After seeing Housewife Julian agian, it makes you realize just how much the character developed in the series, doesn't it? He grew up right in front of our eyes. ![[image loading]](http://imgur.com/kG06r.jpg) lol, perfect strategy, Yang Come to think of it, that was pretty much what Reinhard was able to do in almost all of the main series. Or almost, save the "convey the commander's intentions without error" part. If you liked the stuff with Reinhard/Kircheis/Yang as lower ranking staff officers, then look forward to LoGH Gaidens, since thats essentially what they are all about.
+ Show Spoiler +Yes, Julian's character development made me feel like he's the actual lead character of the story. Yang was his mentor, and Reinhard was the enemy to prove himself against.
And I loved Yang's conversation with Trunicht. Then Trunicht calls Sitolet and is like "It'd be unreasonable to have six times as many ships, but we can send out twice as many." and Sitolet is like "Wtf is wrong with this guy?"
I think that in the future, we should get people to watch Conquest and Overture, then start the main series from ep three. It would be so much better for people to do that instead.
Don't know how soon I will watch the Gaidens, but I'm pumped to watch them. :D

Regarding the idea of an anime subforum, I'm not sure it's a terrific idea. While this thread is pretty active, there are only like 10 regulars in here, which I don't think is enough to power an entire forum. I guess you could dump the other threads in there too, but even so...
What's more important than getting a subforum is updating the freaking op. Has anyone PMed Konadora/ is there any way mods can grant the power for non-mods to modify a specific post? Because the OP is way way out of date.
And yeah, Kino's a girl...

Honestly, the best thing would probably be to lock this thread and make a new one, with someone who will actually update the OP frequently.

But I like this thread. Very high number of pages

QFT
Haibane Renmei is actually my favourite anime. Lain is high on the list as well (as is all stuff that has Yoshitoshi ABe in it). If you've read and enjoyed "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World" by Murakami Haruki then you'll like Haibane Renmei (in my case I watched the anime first since I didn't know anything about the works that inspired it).

Kimi ni Todoke is for shoujo i think, which is probably why the main character is a girl.

Fruit's Basket.
Edit: I must kill myself for forgetting Gunslinger Girl and Ika Musume. You could probably count Tenma in School Rumble as the main character too.

OMG yes! I keep trying to get people to watch this show (with mixed success lol). I know that it's based off of "Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World", but I've never read it.
The Haibane artbook is amazing though (well, all of ABe's artbooks are :p
Can't believe I forgot Gunslinger Girl too, that is a really underrated show imo.

I think I'ma hafta kill you.
Incidentally I think most end up having yuri undertones (Madhouse stuff, Mnemosyne, etc.)
Ignoring all the yuri ones (because they're obviously main) and the otome stuff, not a whole lot unfortunately. I think you either end up with yuri undertones as above, or you end up with dual protagonists.
