I prefer darker stuff most of the time. I really need to get a list of everything I've seen going, but I'm bound to have forgotten watching a ton of stuff.
I'm up to episode 11 of LoGH, and I've watched the first KnK, and I'm liking both right now (though I know jack all about the type moon universe. I have seen FSN though.)
I had never done a VN before I had seen Clannad, Kanon, and the rest. I guess it's really a preference for people. I, myself, can pretty much get into almost any show if the characters don't completely annoy the fuck out of me.

Ahaha~ is the best character. I don't even remember her name.

Nagisa wins no problem
Nagisa isn't even the best girl in her own VN. She isn't even the fourth best girl in her own VN. : /
Tomoyo, Kyou were good Nagisa I liked, Kotomi was good Fuuko was meh, I like Yukine's path quite a bit, Sunohara siblings was pretty ok didn't think much of Komura's ending. Yoshino ending was pretty decent, Akio and Sanae's endings really was very good. in end I like Tomoyo and Kyou as heroines Nagisa's after story as Kanon, I am not really the type to go for main characters in a VN
Tomoyo is the best Clannad girl, without a doubt, IMO.
She has gotten a entirely new game made for just her to be the main heroine, like Kudryavka

Yeah, I know. I doubt that the translation project will ever finish though.

Well, I'm kinda picky about what I watch. There's a LOT of anime I consider to be somewhere in the range of below average, to complete trash (Vanguard, anyone?).
I've only seen a few anime that I REALLY consider to be amazing. Simoun being one of them, Toradora is arguably somewhere up there on my list, simply because I felt they pulled off the ending exceptionally well. I might add Darker than Black to that list, except that the second season was sub-par at best (really, how did they mess things up that bad? While I enjoyed the darker moments of that season, they were far too few and far between considering how the first season was.)
What second season? After Kuro no Keiyakusha, the general public found out about the existence of contractors, and found a way to use their powers to make the world a better place blah blah happy cliched ending.

Yuuichi got redesigned for the 2006 anime.
The original character designs got softened a lot for the Kyoani versions. If you think the girls look weird, have a look at the older Kanon TV series by Toei. Hitaru Inoue just has a very exaggerated style with the big eyes and small mouth, and it was more pronounced in the older titles (ONE and Kanon).
About the poll: I voted Mai. But overall my favorites are Misuzu, Kanna, Kotomi and Tomoyo.
gao~ and piko > uguu. Though I have a soft spot for Kotomi's "bonjour", due to Noto Mamiko bias
Not enough people seem to know/give credit to AIR. Being the older KyoAni produciton, it suffers for not having enough episodes, but I really like the main characters and story the best—its also the most tragic. Oh and LIA's OP/ED are a huge plus. Kanon really drags sometimes to fill the 24 episodes. Clannad definitively has the better pace and production values.
I've been watching Welcome to the NHK for the first time and now I wished I wouldn't have blown it off sometime ago. I'm halfway through the series and still don't really know what to expect. I really enjoy the characters too. So many people giving it high recommendations I was like, "Ahh... forget it" that's after watching the first two episodes and thinking it was stupid. After re-watching I enjoyed the first two and onward

I think AIR was well paced for 12episodes, though it could of went further considering they still took the time for a some-what arch

Clannad apparently wasn't long enough or something, since they had to condense a lot -_-
Though from what I hear, the VN is like at least 100+ hours for full clear.

Agreed. AIR is one of the only 12/13 episodic series that I thought filled up the most amount of plot/story in the small time it was given.
For me, while it was the most tragic of the Clannad/Kanon/AIR trio....I felt that the ending wasn't built up right. I don't know why, but the ending didn't make me as sad as I thought I would feel. Of course I felt the depression and sadness, but it wasn't magnified like in Clannad.
Kanon didn't make me sad at all actually now that I think about it. I just remember being thoroughly entertained.

Clannad VN is long as fuck. The guide I'm using is titled "300Hour Guide" and I'm starting to think it wasn't just a clever title name.

Well, the pacing wasn't bad, but at times I felt it was too packed. If they were able to add two episodes of non-filler footage to Kanna's arc (AIR in Summer), I have the gut feeling they could add at least one good episode to each story.

If you actually listen to every line and finish every route it might clock out to be that.
