Kind of weird how in the second season they spend like half the time trying to justify why it's okay for child soldiers to return to the battlefield, but I mean...it's not really a war anime without a little of weird jingoism and military fetishism, so it was a fun enough time. Heh. I think I finished watching 86 at s01e09. Thought it was a good ending of an arc and didn't really feel any desire to watch it any further ![]()

I'm close to dropping 3-gatsu at ep7 now. It's sad because it does some things really well but it really doesn't know what audience it wants to cater to, so it ultimately ends up being super annoying.

Great manga that WIT and Cloverworks are adapting, so far they are doing a phenomenal job

It's a cute little sad story, nothing as soul crushing as Iroduku though, not even close. I must say that I was even getting a bit bored with it towards the end. Didn't really like the characters much and the story overall didn't have much impact. A Silent Voice is next to check out. Edit: A Silent Voice is actually a heartwarming story. I don't really see how it could be cry-inducing. I don't really know what's so special about Iroduku that did me in so hard. My wife was really worried for a bit since she hasn't seen me crying in a very long time, not even when my dad passed away, and here I was wracked by uncontrollable sobs and crying hard even when just trying to recap the story. The combination of art and music is great in it, but I think for me it's just the overall story and how nicely it connects together to give me this extreme bittersweet mix of emotions.

Oh yeah, my fiancée is halfway through the Spy x Family manga and they are ridiculously excited for the anime to adapt some truly hilarious scenes that I won't spoil

Not necessarily. Also, with heartwarming stuff I think I liked Hori and Miyamura better than this. Or this new Bubble I've seen on Netflix. Edit: Gave it a bit more thought and I think that A Silent Voice doesn't really work as a cry-inducing film is because most of the time it makes you angry rather than sad. It also has pretty big pacing issues due to bloated cast of characters they focus too much on. What should be a simple heartwarming movie about 2 people seeking reconciliation and finding love was turned into some awkward group dynamic thingie, where most characters could be discarded without any loss of value (and huge gain on time spent on developing characters that actually matter) or are downright despicable so not really fitting the story so much.

It's sad because it does some things really well but it really doesn't know what audience it wants to cater to, so it ultimately ends up being super annoying. there's a lot of hype for it and I've personally enjoyed it so far, but there's a lot of really fun anime this season, outside the second seasons such as bookworm, shield etc... Examples: - Summertime Render: mystery anime, fun trying to piece things together although it feels like the pacing is fast from my perspective. - Yuusha, Yamemasu: hero joins demon army for work, tries to fix things up. yolo. - Paripi Koumei: kongming gets reincarnated into modern day Japan. It's Isekai, but this is the kind of unique anime that is worth the watch. Just fun all around imo and would highly recommend. - Otome Game Sekai: another isekai, somewhat similar to Barakina, but the game world and the way it works is totally totally different. Worth the watch imo just to see how the MC approaches the situations he's put through. - Shijou Saikyou no Daimaou: a bit of a reminder of that Demon lord anime, aka Anos one but Anos made it well known. Not anything spectacular, but if you like OP MCs, then there is your anime to watch! As for 3-gatsu, I still enjoyed it despite the back and forth bits. I get what you mean, it should go all-in on making you feel those emotions, but I presume that the author also didn't want people to get depressed watching the anime (assuming anime follows source closely). If memory serves, the anime/source got lots of praise for how well it handled the subject matter(s), but won't devolve further to avoid you getting spoiled. If interested, let me know and I can use spoiler tags.

Spy X Family is a rather average family show, and it's mainly hyped for normies. I would say Summertime Render, Paripi Koumei, Kaguya-sama S3, and Shikimori-san are better for this season. I already read the manga for all of them except for Paripi Koumei so Koumei was really the only one that surprised me this season.PA Works flexing their animation again with an actual good content this time.

Saw the first episode of Summertime Render. Seems good so far. Well animated, a supernatural mystery, smoothly done so far, though I am not a fan of the "white noise" that appears every now and then. I can see why some of us here have been wowed by the first episode.
