Yesterday wo Utatte is an 11 volume manga adapted into a 1 cour show. They basically cut out a bunch of the development between the two, so the MC just ends up looking like a jerk. It was doomed from the start.
In terms of strategy, the fights in Tower of God are fine. What I didn't care for was the presentation. While the animation's not terrible by any means, it's not outstanding either. It's just there. I'm trying to think of any fight scene that was visually iconic and I'm coming up blank.
The best part of Kakushigoto is reading those end of chapter notes, because it makes you question what parts of the story are real. So when you look at the jokes he makes like being the problem mangaka passed between editors, not being able to vacation far from home, being obligated to help out former employers, + Show Spoiler +
The not so subtle metaphor of being crushed by Jump
, etc. A lot of that stuff is probably based on his actual experiences. It's comical and depressing in typical Kumeta fashion.
For Bookworm, learning more about their society is fine and all, but what I really liked s1 for was the personal touch. To me, that's what really set the show apart from its other isekai brethren. Evil nobility and enactment of societal change through tech (Have you heard of CROP ROTATION? What if these ignorant peasants did CROP ROTATION?) is already a dime a dozen in the genre.
I only watched Tower of God in spring. Was ok. I don't like the main char. Would watch a follow up season though.
Summer looks like the worst season of all time. Since there is literally not a single show to watch, I thought I would pick something from my backlog. Decided to go for Nodame Cantabile. 5 eps in and it is ok so far. However, didn't people here mention that it was a more mature version of Shigatsu? So far I don't see how this show is mature in any way...
Yeah I'm not impressed. I'm basically left with 2nd cours from last season and a random smattering of delayed episodes.
I remember almost nothing from Nodame (it's been 7 years for me) but don't expect spectacular writing or anything. IIRC it was more character driven than anything else. The bar for music shows also tends to be pretty fucking low. It has its flaws, but I did enjoy it. Also relevant.
Vinland Saga is incredible, I hope you enjoy it. I left the last few episodes unwatched until a few days ago and I just finished 'em up, and now I desperately need more.
Anyone here following Fruits Basket? This second season is really great as well. Maybe not as much as when the first season started and we were given all this new information, but some of the arcs so far have really hit the mark and the plot seems to be advancing, albeit feels like its plateauing a bit atm. This would be in regards to + Show Spoiler +
the curse and finding out more information about it. Feels like Tohru still keeps it in the back of her mind, but there's so much stuff going on that she just remembers it now and then, but it also makes me wonder how would Kyo even win against Yuki. Win in what? anything to avoid the fate of being locked? If he steals Tohru heart, would that be considered a win then? I would think it is personally, but not sure what the criteria is, if any.
I do have another question regarding some of what's going on. I don't want spoilers so if something wasn't covered by the anime yet, please don't share lol: + Show Spoiler +
Anyways, we constantly see Akito being such an ass in the anime because of his personality and his status as the god of the zodiac members which means that they are all weak willed to really defy him (can be argued). Him tormenting Yuki as a child, the constant belittering of Kyo then the planned imprisonment which seems so ridiculous in a way, beating up a minor in Kisa for something as simple as someone else saying they love her, Hatori losing his eye as a result of Akito's violence etc... I wouldn't be surprised if he's done a lot more physical harm that the anime hasn't gone into, but how does something like this fly in the anime?
One could say that the soma family doesn't know of all the harm he's done, but we also see Kagura's mom for instance remark on how she'll be broken if Kagura was beaten up by Akito like Kisa was. No doubt that Kisa's mom must've been fuming after her daughter was beaten up and ended up in a hospital. Is it respect for the "elder/head" that prevents someone reporting the abuse, as in the family has their own structure that doesn't get interfered with? Fear of the consequences if they report, but nothing comes of it? After all, the anime seems to make it a point that the Soma family have a certain level of power.
I obviously realize there's a bit of fear there among the zodiac members and their associated families, not to mention how dysfunctional a lot of their families seem to be like Momiji's or Yuki's for instance. Likewise, I realize that only so many of the Soma family know about the zodiac spirits and there's a separation with the whole inner vs outer family bit which would mean that the only ones to likely know about the violence are inner family members who would likely have a member who is a zodiac spirit thereby making it hard to report the violence. Am I missing something or did I hit the main reason he seems to get away with assault?
I gotta say though, the anime has done a fairly good job of making me really hate Akito!
Damn, I've never thought of it before, but that Cosmic God can only be Type Venus at this point. I kind forgot about Types as we are in Fate Timeline where the DAA that are planning to revive Type Moon does not exist as an organization. I was on the wrong track thinking of some mythology to link to the Cosmic God as she is called "God", but forgot about Nasuverse Lore itself.
The only logical conclusion to anyone who has read Notes is that the Cosmic God is Type Venus. 1. Types exist outside the laws of Gaia and by simply existing corrode the laws of Gaia. This is why The Earth was turned into white paper in an instant. Essentially that was the moment that she started turning Gaia's laws into her own. This is different from Goetia who destroyed humanity by messing with the past. Humanity was literally destroyed in an instant in this case, and the only beings that can do that in Nasuverse are Types. 2. In Notes, after Type Venus was shot down, her corpse turned into World Trees which spawned countless humanoid angels. This sounds pretty much the same as the World Tree in each Lostbelts. But instead of spawning humanoid angels, they are now spawning phantasmal beasts and gods from the God Age after simulating XXXX years of history. 3. Out of all the Types, she was the only one who had an interest in humanity. Hence, I think she's the only Type who would go through such a roundabout way of simulating human history and bringing the God Age back to the modern world. And she is also the only Type which is described as female. 4. The introduction of Black Barrel, the weapon which "killed" her in Notes can only be a setup to this. It's pretty much one of the few weapons which can kill Types.
As for Koyanskaya's true identity, it was pretty much obvious ever since it was revealed that she was + Show Spoiler +
Tamamo Vitch, one of the Tamamo Nines that she is Beast IV. It has been hinted before that when Tamamo becomes the Nine-tailed Fox, she has the potential to become one of the Beast of Calamities.
It's only natural that even Types will be careful in dealing with her as for example, Primate Murder was able to fight equally with prime Arcueid and Roa, who was the successor of Type Moon and her strongest servant.
Before, they introduced us to Primate Murder(young form) and now they're introducing us to Types. Nice!
This is just speculation based on her personality, but the Cosmic God's true objective is probably to create an environment where she can live among humans.
Finished Olympus, and well looks like my guess was wrong. + Show Spoiler +
Alien God turned out to be Beast VII who is using Olgamarie's body as a vessel for some reason. She seems to be aiming at ORT to become her vessel. I don't see this ending well for Beast VII. But well, it will be an interesting fight to see between an Aristoteles and Beast.
But hmm, I wonder why she's called 異星の神 (Alien/Cosmic God) if she's Beast VII. Beast are supposed to be manifestations of Evils of Humanity, so it makes no sense to call them Alien. Well, we'll find out eventually I guess.
Looks like next arc is back to Camelot again. Do we get to actually kill that annoying Saberface this time? XD
So I went to check out Tower of God. That has to be the worst first episode I can think of in a good long while. I disliked it even more than the first episode of Japan Sinks 2020 which I dropped after 3 episodes for being awful.
I heard a lot about how good Tower of God was, but after that first episode I'm debating strongly going any further with it.
It gets decent only a few episodes in. I'm assuming they rush the pace or cut a lot out of manwhas due to how they are written/drawn. God of High School is the same. I read most of it and the few eps out gloss over some details that would make the story better. Still good and the animation seems to be right for it. ToG was kinda...not worth the time tbh.
Finished Maji Koi S. Outside of Tsubame, Mon, and + Show Spoiler +
Koyuki Route
, it was pretty much a nukige lol. I enjoyed Kokoro route a bit too as it's fun reading her turn into Michiru. The rest of the game was pretty much trash.
I can understand how it's pretty much a voice trap though. Kadowaki Mai, Shizuka Itou, Wakamoto Norio, and lots of other high profile seiyuu. They even have a Jam Project insert song.
The art is also quite good, and they even have some animated scenes. The production of the game is good, now if only the story was also as good. I can see why people like it, but it's just not for me.
Also, playing through Fate/Extra CCC right now. Played through one route before, but got too lazy to finish the game. Now if only Nasu would work on Tsukihime remake or Mahoyoru 2 instead.

It took me at least two tries to get through the first episode of Tower of God, but it does get better.
