Given how the story's been written so far, it's a pretty safe bet that the girl in the pod is the childhood friend. They just introduced Charce's backstory 10 minutes ago for very little reason (we know his arc's not over because of the angsty scene in his room), and the hair color matches.

It's emblematic of the issues the show has in general. Everything happens in a very short amount of time, like they're reading off of a checklist.


As you said, the lack of perceived stakes adds to the problem. Nothing that happens feels like it can really threaten them since they solve it with the most outlandish solutions while suffering zero consequences in the process. And fine, that's the kind of show it is, but it makes the drama bits kinda boring. The characters feel flat even with their individual arcs.

To me, the show's strength lies in its varied biomes/flora/fauna. It really is nice seeing planets that aren't just "Earth, but it's purple".

I just binged Demon Slayer and caught up to the latest episode after hearing how great episode 19 was. I have to say it's one of the best-looking shows I've seen, and the sakuga throughout the show is fantastic eye candy. The pacing and writing does falter a few times in the second half of the season, but the latest arc had some sublime sequences. Overall, it's a very solid shounen experience.

Anybody still watching that FireForce anime? It's kind of bizarre how the female "boss" has such a cooler looking and more useful powers than any of the good guy characters. All of that effort and money on animating her powers, it's as if she is the main character.

I'm still watching it. I see it as the other good guys are still developing their skillsets. Kind of like the training arcs in MHA when they focused on special moves. Hopefully it gets better.

It was a super lame fight. "More willpower" is cool sometimes, but this wasn't one of those times.


The show feels like Kekkai Sensen but with worse comedy and less self-awareness.

No that anime has zero plot and is totally bland. I only keep watching it since its on amazon prime

Top 10? Way to early too judge, top 10 is a really high bar. So far it has too many glaring issues to hold up with any of my top 10 or close to that. That being said, the first 6 episodes have been really good. It's been a long time since I have been hooked by a new show like this. Ep7 was just meh compared to that. + Show Spoiler +
No character development, more empty lines than before, side plot was super boring, characters of said side plot were super boring. It really depends what they do in episode 8 now.

That's why I was confused. It doesn't have a plot atm. but it isn't bland in my eyes. If anything it rushes a bit too quickly through the character development of Thorfinn, which may make it seem like he doesn't have any. There are huge time gaps in between episodes, sometimes even within episodes. But that's also the reason why I disliked ep7. It was the first episode that didn't actually develop anything.

To be fair, episode 7 was adapted from the manga's first chapter, which seemed to be meant as an action-packed hook. Apparently, all the preceding episodes were originally flashbacks in the manga, though I think the anime did a good job of adapting them into chronological order. I personally felt that the show was compelling when the personal stakes were high, and maybe those elements will reappear in the story soon (though I haven't read any other chapters).

Vinland Saga's plot is it's based on historical events and in general a homage to scandinavian history and folklore. Primarily it's a creative take on how Thorfinn + Show Spoiler [sorta spoiler] +
became Thorfinn the Explorer
and Kong Knud's route to power.

I disagree with some of these posts. I would say there is a plot in Vinland Saga, but it's quite simple: + Show Spoiler +
Aka, Thorfinn is trying to get revenge for his father, but he realized afterwards that he's weak, pathetic and has been pampered thus he has to learn to survive on his own and fight until he gets strong enough to get said revenge. Simple, sure and you could technically have lots of episodes where the character fights on the battlefield and write it off as him getting stronger for the sake of his goal. Frankly, I thought the latest episode was fine. Maybe not as interesting as the previous ones since there wasn't any further development and it was just an action episode, but it looks like we'll potentially get a new showdown between him and his father's killer (he should really consider going after the head, aka the guy who ordered it imo but whatever).

Thorfinn's passiveness is super annoying. I would think that eventually he'd grow out of his "I will never fight again" shtick but he hasn't. He almost took vengeance for his father and turned back into a badass but he's got a crossbow girl ready to shoot him at any time in case he does. I get that there's a message that war = bad in the series but holy shit does he just seem like a massive pussy. Luckily, Thorkell keeps us entertained. Unluckily, we will probably never see him again.
