yeah but even then i feel like 12/13 episodes is going to be tough? But then again, a lot of the early stuff like them having to go around and help around in the city is easily done with a montage or 5 minutes of a single episode if you have to.

I still have no idea what exactly is the plot of Fate/Grand order, even after the 40 min special. Isn't it all based on some lame gacha game? Is there even a plot?

FGO is based off a jp mobile gacha game and it does very well because there is a story and solid character design/development. If you watched that 40 min OVA without playing the game or at least knowing the backstory, I'd imagine it's very convoluted.

The tl;dr of the game's plot, at least the first "arc", is that you play as Ritsuka Gudao/Gudako (male/female protag, the anime will use Gudao as MC) and there are seven Singularities that have manifested in humanity's timeline. These Singularities were set forth by the big bad of the first arc and they're situated in various times and locations (e.g. the 1st Singularity is set in France, during the Hundred Years' War). It's a sort of temporal anomaly created with the purpose of disrupting the proper time flow of things and if left unchecked, it leads to the demise of humanity as a whole. FGO utilizes the basic Servant summoning system that's prevalent in other Fate series but your main companion is the pink hair Shielder girl named Mashu.

In terms of story writing, the 6th and 7th Singularities, Camelot and Babylonia, respectively, have been tapped for a season of anime and a movie. They're considered the best stories out of the seven by FGO players, so there's a reasonable amount of hype behind them. The gravitas behind Babylonia is pretty apparent. Final Singularity is set in a time/location that's considered the Cradle of Civilization. Big bad brings in a lot of phantasmagoric creatures to wipe out Babylonia with the intention of ending humanity before it can even begin, etc.

I think that's just Type-Moon things. There's definitely a considerable barrier of entry when it comes to anything Fate related. Sometimes you just need to dive in or if you're less inclined, have someone explain the backstory to you. The FGO OVA was definitely made for those players. New comers won't know wtf is going on.

Didn't the FGO OVA explain the premise? IIRC it covered the prologue and that pretty much summed up what was going on in FGO.

@Toad there was a 40ish min special that covered the prologue (so the events in chaldea + the Fyuki singularity).

But yea Camelot + Bablyon + the final singularity are legit great Fate stories. The previous ones were of varying quality from meh to ok.

I would say if your a Fate fan it is worth playing through just for the story (or at least reading it). You don't even really have to participate in the gacha part of the game to beat the story so thats a plus.

I feel like everyone always says that the first 4 singularities are so garbo that it's probably hard to get into "just for the story". Imagine everyone telling you it has this amazing story and all and you get to see Rome... or the Blackbeard singularity whatever it was called.
Blackbeard is my spirit animal and I ironically call it best singularity all the time but really... it's pretty bad.

Prisma Ilya event collab singularity, now that's where it's really at though

I watched fate/stay night and fate zero and a couple of the fate stay night movies and I still didn't have a clue about what was going on in the 40 min special. Something, something, humanity needs to be saved, was all I got out of it.

I guess this season is a wash. There are so few anime to watch that intrigue me. I mean, Miru Tights is probably the only saving grace for an otherwise lackluster season. Next season looks great though, so there is hope.

Attack on Titan is absolutely killing it right now though, at least for me and anyone else who've kept up with the series. It has been feeling like peak entertainment.

That reminds me I stopped around EP 41. Was gonna let the series accumulate a few EPs instead of watching it weekly, but I let that happen a bit long lol. Good to hear the show is going well though, I'm gonna start it back up tonight

Yea I was surprised how well animated the latest Shingeki no Kyojin episodes were, they certainly didn't cut any corners (well, maybe except some minor plot points during part 1 of season 3). I mean I've read the manga and all, but everything looks so much better in motion.

When the anime waits for the original mangaka to work their magic, everything turns out so much better.

WIT clean up a bit in BD too from what I've seen. Them and Shaft tend to be real good at making BD good.

It is unfortunate that this may be the last season of AoT that WIT does, according to rumors. Apparently the production schedule was way too intense for them to maintain, but at least they're sending it off with a bang.
