It had its good moments but also stretches where it just felt too drawn-out and straight up boring.
There are a few of those "well, isn't that convenient?" situations where she finds her target in the middle of nowhere just by pure coincidence and it's hard to see how that specific story would've progressed otherwise. Due to the SoL nature of the show, some story arcs feel like there should be more consequences to it, but in the end nothing ever comes out of it. Some episodes have almost zero character development for Violet and the side characters introduced in that episode never show up again.
The show has a few decent "the feels" moments, if that's what you're looking for.
Probably my biggest criticism is that the show is absolutely linear and predictable. You probably already know how it is going to end after watching the first episode. And half of Violet's dialogue consists of "the major" and repeating her name and catchphrase over and over and over again.
I ended up rating it 6/10.

Nezgar pretty much summed up my thoughts on vio verga but the way kyo ani draws eyes looks pretty so I gave it a 9/10. If you ignore half the episodes it's still fairly decent! -_-

There is a ReZero rewatch thread on reddit and reading the comments of 1st time watchers has really gotten me back into it (especially since they are on 15 of all episodes). Been listening to the sound track a lot lately as well as it as some very strong songs. Going to have to catch back up on the novels~

Tbh, there was too much talking in the first episode for my taste. Too much of a character backseat playing the game via voicechat and checking the minimap, but it has potential to play on some more fun gamer tropes. Plus, you know the main character's outfit and P90 are gonna get modded into various games until the end of time.

A significant character development for her was that she recognizes her feeling for him and stops just being a mere tool. So if there was a person she would not just bow to and do her phrase, it would be the major.
But that's also why I agree that the ending was bad. Opening the door for her could literally be any character that she met over the course of the show and that is still alive. It tries to be one of those open endings that could mean anything the viewer wants it to, but ultimately it has absolutely no meaning whatsoever.

+ Show Spoiler +I agree. I disliked open endings. They are simply open and ambiguous for the sake of being open and ambiguous. Still, I didn't feel any particular ire from so, but that may be because I wasn't particularly emotionally invested. In my case I just moved on and was puzzled by your intrepetation. Still, I didn't like the suggestion that it was the Major. Either they should have gone the whole way, ending the series on a positive note, or ending with her acting as normal, encapsulating the progress she has made since.
