Well, the show had some unique feel but was overall pretty mediocre (s1). It's not unheared of though that shows that are hyped up turn out to be mediocre... I liked the male MC of that show and he carried it for me. However, he had a lot of similar characteristics as Watashi from Jinrui - it's just that Watashi is a hell of a lot better. : /

Also, you have to watch the movie before you watch The Disappearance of Nagato Yuuki-chan.
Which is completely different but a good series as well.

Man Uchouten s2 is so great. It has been on steroids so far and ep5 was no different. What a highlight each week.

I binged the Endless Eight in a day just because. Yeah the movie was pretty good. Though i think you could've just watched like 1,2,8 of the endless 8 to get the point of the whole arc not really all 8 of them.

Maybe I am a masochist for enjoying the small little changes in outfits they did in endless 8 :D But bingeing it did not feel as shitty as watching it week after week must have been

Haruhi was popular because it was a parody of common chuuni LN tropes at the time, you know the ones where an average student joins a school club wich secretly consists of superhumans, military organisations, magicians and all that bullshit. Then there's also the fact that it's very meta because haruhi wants to find a group of timetravelers, espers and aliens and start one of those special school clubs but only finds a bunch of regular students. The we find out said students are actual timetravelers, espers and aliens who are pretending to be normal and you get the idea.
The concept sounds retarded on paper but it somehow works.

It's not so bad if you know what you're getting into.
Also IIRC the original plan was for Dissapearance to be in the second season but somebody in charge changed their mind afterwards and wanted a movie instead so the director had a bunch of excess episodes and no clue what to do with them.

What popular LNs had the school club thing before haruhi though. Literally, the most popular LNs(Or juvenile novels I guess as they were called before) In that same period as or before haruhi are probably slayers, boogiepop, Shana, 12 kingdoms, saiunkoku monogatari, Guin saga, Lodoss wars, LOGTH, Arslan Senki, Kino no tabi and Full metal Panic. The trend I'm seeing here is fantasy. There's hardly any slice of life here. I'd say, haruhi was the starter of all the school club lns.

LOGH and Arslan are not LNs, they're just novels

Actually, back then like 20-30 years ago or something, they were shoved in the juvenile novel section. And that section basically evolved into LNs. Now, they are both just novels, but they pretty much all share the same reading demographics with what an LN target audience would read.

Though you might be right about the school club part, I'm just assuming there were a bunch of special school club LN's (or webnovels) that never gained any traction outside of their niche fanbase in japan, let alone over here in the west, and thus nobody ever thought they'd make for a successful anime.
Btw haven't watched Shana but isn't it the type of LN that haruhi parodies (minus the school club part) or is there more to it ?

Not really, it's more like an action-shounen show with romance and some comedic moments. Think bleach, index, etc. beginning is light and then gets more serious as it goes.

I said trend. out of a list of a some of the best selling YA novels, 9 out of 11 here are fantasy with LOGH and FMP being scifi which is closer to fantasy than SOL. either way, none of them have a premise similar to haruhi

Kase San, the series you posted, was announced quite some time ago actually.
