The movie looks, from the trailer, to be gorgeously shot with excellent effects.
The story does not in any way resemble anything I remember from the movie, either the original or director's cut revamp with CGI. But that's only from the trailer.

Doesn't help that the Director was quoted as saying the original was too philosophical and introspective so basically they dumbed it down.

Give us details. I personally feel the first gits movie and the for sure, the second gits movie was way too philosophical and prefer the sci-fi movies of stand alone complex.
I'm still down for the movie if they tell an awesome cyberpunk story.

Major being a badass is not the point of the film, and it's entirely possible that Hollywood has decided to just make an early summer sci-fi action flick that hangs entirely on fight choreography and baller special effects.
It's right there in the title. Ghost in the Shell. I expect it to be extremely heavy on the shell, and barely touch on the Ghost. Or even the political maneuvering and plotting that was found in the later series.
I'll still see it, but I'm not expecting even close to Bladerunner levels of philosophy. Sci-Fi these days in movies just means action movie IN SPACE or WITH LASERS and rarely touches on the underlying themes and discussions that take place in anything deeper than the average space opera.

Ergo Proxy was quite good.
I really liked it's level of stangeness, it felt meaningful, not like sometimes where a show or book will be strange just for the sake of it (which usually ends badly).

My point was that there's a lot of stories that could be told in that setting and franchise with varying degrees of philosophical tones.

There are. They wouldn't be the Major's however. They wouldn't be the one that the original movie creating the universe told. Which is what the assumption usually would be, when they remake an animated movie into a live action movie.
It's not uncommon for an adaptation coming out of Hollywood. But I expect this to be a lot more "vaguely Asian themed BlackWidow the movie" than "Ghost in the Shell". Maybe it'll surprise me. I just don't have high hopes when major Hollywood studio producers are involved.

Yeah, it's really depressing. Sci-fi is a genre that provides so much freedom to explore philosophical/moral themes in hypothetical, futuristic settings, yet today it's rarely used to a degree above "dum, cool-looking action". I will watch the movie with a friend in a theater. We have both watched the trailer and are expecting it to be mediocre at best.

Finished 3 gatsu. Ending was good but I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. The ideas explored in the show were great and I like how they displayed the Shogi battles, even though I don't know the significance of said moves, however, I think the pacing was too slow and the show squandered some of its potential.
The MC kept swimming around in the deep end for most of the show and almost felt like he never moved forward. It'll look like he's planning to move forward then he back traces imo. The show tries hard to show the struggles he faced and yes, they are great but I think they overdid it. I've lost count how many times they've brought up his history or showed that he can't do something.
I didn't mind the comedy aspect though I have to agree with whoever mentioned that the show switching from being serious to being comedic is a somewhat bad idea. The serious aspect lost its meaning when that happens. Akane and her sisters were a great addition and part of what I enjoyed about the show but they never made much of an appearance in the second half on the advice, except for a couple of times. The grandfather's advice is understandable and played a role but even then, more appearances would've been nice.
I can't really say which half I enjoyed the most (second half had its perks) but at times, the anime felt extremely boring. There was no excitement factor to speak of and I stopped watching for several weeks at one point. I do like the OP, ED and hope that the show gets better in the second season!

Well tha'ts the thing, this was never booked as a Ghost in the Shell anime movie remake. This is just a Ghost in the Shell movie remake, so idk. We saw in the promotional material that both Puppetmaster and Kuze is in the movie so they could go either way with a philosophy story (which I doubt, because Hollywood) or political.

Just finished watching Mashiro-iro Symphony: The Color of Lovers. Who would've known that a harem can actually have a legit nice ending. Best girl won as well, first time it ever happens in an anime I've watched! lol. Story overall was pretty cute and nice, nothing too crazy considering the synopsis. My only complaint which isn't big is that does the MC really have to see most of the girls naked at some point? Some rite of passage maybe? lol.

i know absolutely nothing about the anime, but I'm a huge fan of the Honeyworks utaite Sana, and one of the main heroine's name is Sana.
So unless she won in the end, then the anime is trash tier.
