The show may get marred down by character drama(Which I like, I know others don't) but the director knew exactly when to let the music do all the talking. ps: Kyoani must stop playing with my heart though ![]()

Gintama suffers from being a long animation so it's actual animation is really poor in 99% of cases and as it's comedy it can be hit or miss quite often. But there's at least 80-100+ episodes of solid comedy. Since it's episodic and the story isn't incredibly important I completely skipped eps 1-100 and actually started from 200-265. Only after watching that did I go to eps 50-200 while missing half or so of 1-50 because the comedy wasn't nearly as consistent imo. Newest season is over rated and I'd argue that the funniest episodes are randomly interspersed inbetween eps 145-265. There's definitely some serious gems interspersed between 50-145 as well though. Once you get to know all the characters, the movie is a definite watch too. Despite how ludicrous it is, the author of Gintama deserves some major props for keeping it fresh for so long. Though I'm not a manga reader so I don't know if it's taken a dive. I just know I enjoyed a good chunk of the 250+ eps I watched.

+ Show Spoiler + rip La Pucelle and Magicaloid 44. Im guessing alicegore is still alive since she never turned back. Oh wait, she probably killed Magicaloid without a head which is why koyuki screamed. It was insanely bloody as well. I guess the battle royale officially begins here. Koyuki looks broken. I'm really looking forward to what she will be doing next and how she will change now that her boy died. I feel like they liked each other. Wixoss 5 + Show Spoiler + nice, Hanna decided she didn't want to be friends either after chinatsu decided to throw it away. Now Suzuko is at one coin left and she will be fighting Chinatsu next episode. The suffering train has no brakes here. I wonder if suzuko will be broken after next episode Occultic nine 5 + Show Spoiler + oh nice, the plot is moving now and the characters are getting more and more intertwined. I don't really care about the mystery but I'm having a bit of fun Sousei no onmyouji 29 + Show Spoiler + rip Sae. I wanted you to live but alas. I wonder why they are just continuing though? Arima is still missing and kuranashi are still out there yet it wrapped up the arc??? Girlish number 5 + Show Spoiler + Chitose gets rekt this episode. Im not surprised that she cries to internet comments. Attention is like the only thing she values. But man this producer is the worse. The author reminds me of what happened to Mahou Sensou and Rail War's authors in real life. Man, and I'm still behind on izetta, ufo, flip flappers, Gundam Ibo, and 3gatsu,

+ Show Spoiler [Akagami no Shirayukihime] + I find it hard to really evaluate my enjoyment of this show. It starts off in frankly awesome fashion. You get the quiet mellow fluffy romance budding between the two leads in a setting that isn't devoid of conflict but the nature of the conflict tends to be less dark in nature. Paralleling the characters growth with the growth of the romance works pretty well in season 1. Really just enjoyed everything about season one. It even ended off on a fairly good note with both characters progressing as well as cementing their relationship intent. Things then take a complete nose dive in season 2. I understand why the author decided to manufacture this conflict but I don't agree with it at all. Normally you put conflict to force progression in a character or relationship but these two characters were doing that without the need for this stupid conflict. All it does is completely shift the tone of the show from a fluffy adorable romance to some kind of pseudo darker romance. It discarded the darker themes pretty quickly season 1 so bringing them up for the majority of season 2 just destroyed the good it had going. Then it concludes at the exact same point as season 1. The characters have marginal growth and all that's really happened is the relationship has progressed from "We love each other" to "lets get married one day". In concluding, if they had just done 1 season and ended it I'd have been pleasantly surprised by this little gem of the show. Unfortunately they did another season and marred the fun of the first while not really adding any value to the story. The only positive in season 2 were the adorable twins. Recommendation: Watch season 1 and last episode of season 2 if you have to otherwise act like season 2 doesn't exist + Show Spoiler [Silver Spoon] + This is actually a rewatch for me. I watched this show earlier in the year but never really spoke about it much. While Akagami no Shirayukihime suffers from tonal shifts and sacrificing the setup to introduce plot focus, Silver spoon is a perfect example of how to create a balanced story from the start. The plot serves as an undercurrent for the characters growth and progress. It always moves forward and always makes sure that we end at a different place than we started. You've never left with the sense that the story is wasting time not moving. It's always a challenge to mess Slice of Life and coming of age in a story. Often authors will just switch between "plot moments" and "irrelevant sol moments". Managing to never feel that way is truly amazing. That's just talking about the story structure and pacing. Really it shines through the little character moments and dilemmas they face. All the main characters and even side characters feel fleshed out. They have their own dreams, personalities and motivations. Their own little quirks. Characters don't feel like flat tropes but more like they use a certain trope as a basis to mold themselves around Recommendation: Why the hell haven't you watched it. + Show Spoiler [Assassination Classroom] + So another coming of age anime! I think the universe is trying to tell me something... Anyway assassination classroom is another that mixing coming of age and sol together. The premise is strange at first. It marginalizes the act of murder a bit much which at first turned me off the show. Normally an action show does similar things but they never really talk about it while Assassination classroom focuses heavily on the act. However it does start delving into deeper themes while using that as a impetus. It's an interesting dynamic. The cast is large and the characters are fairly fun. It suffers from being a little long in my books. The story could have been condensed a little to ensure more impact and less pacing issues but overall it's solid. You see satisfying character growth and honestly a good conclusion outside of a little romantic conclusion. I think part of the reason I enjoyed it was that a lot of the philosophy around teaching and what a parent should be resonates me with. That said the way they just kind of forgive certain parenting is a bit unsettling. In general I find anime tends to have a vastly different view on parenting than me. It could just be a cultural thing but it still makes me sad. Recommendation: Watch if you have time. It's no Silver Spoon + Show Spoiler [Symphogear GX] + Honestly don't have much to say on this show. It's the weakest Symphogear yet but it still hits all the same notes as the other series. You got the insane hype, the awesome singing and the ridiculous nature of it all. Oh and every girl is a lesbian. That's canon. The main reason this season was so weak was due to introducing parenting again. Really find it ridiculous how awful parents can do absolutely nothing to correct or change and have 1 decent moment then instantly forgiven. It's disgusting. As a parent it's your responsibility to do the best for your child. Don't have a child otherwise, don't condone this bullshit anime. Recommendation: Meh. If you like symphogear it's ok. + Show Spoiler [Medaka Box] + Finally not a coming of age! Just another ridiculous action anime. It's a fun silly little action show with some nice action and decent characters. Also lovely ahoges! These kind of shows are a bit pointless talking about. There's not much to them. Either you like the ridiculous moments or you don't. It's not much deeper than that. The only real thing I can speak about is how you should not watch the ending of season 2 unless you love massive cliffhangers that will never be resolved. Recommendation: Watch season 1 and most of 2 or just ignore 2 lol. That's pretty much it for what I've caught up on this week. Still waiting for durarara for my next thing to finish. Don't know if I missed anything good in last few seasons. I'll prob do a check through sometime later. ps: Yea the parenting thing tilted me pretty hard lately. I think it all started with Bakuman. The marriage dynamic in that pissed me off so much now I hone in on it whenever parents appear in anime. I'd rather them just not exist if they going to be done this way

Is this written by a woman? Have a hard time believing a male manga author writes such good female characters. Honestly think so far this is the best anime of the year and depending on how the rest of the season goes it'll be the best anime I've watched in the past few years.

And yeah, I agree, it is shaping up to be anime of the season and maybe anime of the year. Wouldn't say it's close to the best things I have watched this year though (yet?).
