Characterization was erratic as hell though and the drama was often over the top but nothing too bad.
Episode 12 was ... unexpected, can't say I didn't like it though.
Now it's time for Thunderbolt.

As far as animation goes, no older Gundam OVA beats 0083 though.

+ Show Spoiler [MSG 0079 spoilers] + Papa Zabi calls his son Hitler and he takes it as a compliment haha And yeah you could tell the director died midway in production, things started getting pretty weird in the second half of episode 7. Thunderbolt's my favorite Gundam entry so far, the movie was absolutely stunning. Visuals were amazing and sfx were on point, music was great too. The story was also really good for something so short but it went a bit too dark sometimes when it really didn't need to. Also going from MSG 0079 --> War in the Pocket --> 8th MS Team --> Thunderbolt was quite the experience in terms of animation quality.

The direction the anime took with the cripples was like WH40K comedic levels of grimdark lol

Daryl was trying to shoot down a GM but he couldn't reach the firing button with his prosthetic hand at the end of the movie. I found it really sad at first but in hindsight it was actually pretty funny. Though personally i found the child soldiers part a lot more unnessecary but i guess it was to balance out the fact that Zeon fought with cripples (wich I think is a dumb reason but w/e). Were the children even aware they were sent to die because they were just happily taking pictures of the gundam lol. I'm hoping the reception was positive enough they consider doing a full season of the show (if there's enough material of course).

It's one of those anime whose plot is pretty simple but filled with lots of symbolism. The pacing is slow as hell (especially for the first 30 minutes) but it uses it to create an unique atmosphere that's neither happy or depressing. Apparently the novel this movie is based on was a major inspiration for Mawaru Penguindrum so if you liked that give this movie (or novel) a try.

The thing with Izetta is that they're trying to walk the line between realism and fantasy, and I'm starting to think that they're not very good at it. It worked in ep 3 because there was a clear division between the two. Machines and weapons function as they should, then Izetta comes in and blows everything up. Cool. In ep 5, they totally screw it up when they do their little ruse. Shooting guns out of people's hands with silent sniper rifles? That's not how that shit works. I don't get it. Why go through all the effort of making things accurate in ep 3 if you're just going to discard it for plot convenience? You might say this is a minor nitpick (and you'd probably be right), but really, some consistency would be nice. I still have zero hope for the story. My favorite part was easily the last 3 minutes of episode 6, I must've rewatched it like 5 times before moving on to the next episode. Characterization was erratic as hell though and the drama was often over the top but nothing too bad. Episode 12 was ... unexpected, can't say I didn't like it though. Now it's time for Thunderbolt. + Show Spoiler + what a fantastic episode. I didn't even know how such cringe worthy moments could make the show better. The first episode of KuuSure was so bad, so bad!. Like a whole new level of badness. The live was pretty much a disaster as well. Shibasaki being disgusted with herself would pretty much be my reaction. I love the mix between the commentary and the humor. I feel pretty bad for the author of the LN too. He just moped in a corner ;_; Narratively, it looks like Chitose is doing the momoka approach and doing anything she can to get popular but I have a feeling she will get punished later for this. And it would be really nice to know if Watari-sensei is basing this off of any real life experience that he knows of.

The animators have asked for his input constantly throughout the entire production process and he hasn't said a word even though he's watched his cherished work get defiled (not that it was good to begin with). I can't feel sympathy for someone who won't even try to improve their situation.

I can't feel sympathy for someone who won't even try to improve their situation. + Show Spoiler + while I'm not a fan of how autistic they decided to make the author, he did give his input at the meeting in ep 3 (or 2? Forgot)where he has said that he didn't like the designs. If I recall how it went, it was like this 1) kuzu-p decided it would be in a shitty artstyle 2) author didn't like it so he and the publisher complained and said what they want. 3) at the first live they showed the pv, progress was still slow and kuzu-p forced the author to take his way or the highway because the pv wouldn't be ready for the event if they had to redraw it now. Author-san agreed to use their shitty style 4) they finalize the shitty designs When the ln publisher asked for the designs or the storyboard to check them even after the shitty pv they showed in ep3, the producer just made a bullshit excuse to not give it to them. The studio is pretty much 80% at fault here. Chitose even mentioned it in the first episode where the anime studios just usually ignore the author and take it into their own hands. At this point, there's simply nothing the author or his side of the table can do now. The studio will perpetually be behind on every episode now and then you will get shitty sakuga and design just like what you saw because now they have to rush to meet TV deadlines every week. The director even fell asleep on the job. Though I can't tell whether it is because he is pulling an all nighter or because he is lazy. While I think author could have done a lot more if he wasn't so socially retarded, the studio/producer pretty much matched him in how shitty they were.
