If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. I mean for me there's been stuff like JoJo and a few others that i definitely would recommend to certain friends right away. But even outside of those i feel that this year has had a decently high number of entertaining shows each season despite maybe having fewer 9/10 and above shows. I haven't had a season where i had nothing to watch, i've personally watched less seasonal stuff this year compared to other years but that's mostly due to burning through older shows (Monster, Logh, more Gundam, Slayers and more) But the seasonals i have been following remained pretty entertaining and i think to some degree i sometimes prefer having a larger variety of good shows per season than a single super great show per season)

That is why a more vague request is problematic. People can only rec stuff they personally liked or what was popular and that can be pretty hit or miss.
I will agree that this current season is dog shit though. Dropped everything except Alderamin and Amaama to Inazuma .

I believe that the reveal after the ED of this week's Mob Psycho 100 means that + Show Spoiler +Reigen has somehow conned everyone at Claw into thinking he's the supreme esper

The more top-tier shows I watch from my backlog the more I realise how mediocre all these standard fare shows are with their mind-numbing humour/comedic relief, plot with the quality of a school-essay, characters with next to no character and all the pandering to certain audiences. It sounds kind of grumpy, and maybe it is, but these days it feels quite hard to find seasonal shows I can even give a 7/10. The shows I mentioned above are the only ones that got a 7/10, haven't rated a single 8/10 or higher this year (although Rakugo probably deserved it).
I hope that fall might change that. It has some promising stuff lined up.

I haven't watched anime in a year, what did I miss? nothing.
|
I put re:zero and alderamin in top anime I have watched though. That's why I don't think this has been a bad year. Nothing great but there have been worse years by far.
|
Yeah there is honestly no anime I would recommend from the past year, including stuff currently airing. If I had to choose one though, I'd go with Sakamoto desu ga since it had me laughing heartily from beginning to end

That's clear language, thanks.
Guess it's just time to watch gits again.

Guess it's just time to watch gits again. Actually, we had Flying Witch, so that was a plus. I don't remember anything else that stood out.

Great idea. Just got the DVDs the other day. I have also rewatched the original movie recently. Aaand I'm closing in on my 200th anime watched, according to MAL, so it's time for a rewatch of some glorious show anyways.

Gakkougurashi probably still the best new thing for me from the last 12 months And KonoSuba but I know how all you haters feel about that~

Konosuba is a triumph (especially the lns).
Rem Zero is so good it is carrying 2 seasons by itself.
|
Apparently people like KonoSuba if they are the kind of person who goes "Who gives a shit about the animation in anime, or art in general?" But in which case, why bother with anime and just read it at that point. Which is funny since the LN looks better than the anime lol.
|
Because some people can look past the shit animation when other aspects of the show are entertaining. Sometimes you just want to see a scene animated and hear the VAs go at it. They did a pretty good job in Konosuba too. Though your right about the lns which ofc is why I immediately went and read them.

I'd assume most people who liked the show started reading afterwards or already read it beforehand. It was pretty hyped among people who do read the LNs beforehand even with all the shitty art tha was shown around in the trailers and whatnot.
So yeah I'd assume most people either already did that or are doing it by now outside of the "I don't want to know what's going to happen in the anime (s2) beforehand!" or like Numy said, the people who don't read in general.
HELL YES
New Game! TV Anime's Blu-rays/DVDs to Offer Public Bath OVA
New Game! manga creator Shōtarō Tokunō reported on Wednesday that the New Game! television anime's website lists a new original video anime (OVA). People who buy all six Blu-ray Disc or DVD volumes of the television anime can submit proof-of-purchase stubs to receive a new OVA, which is about the length of one episode.
Tokunō describes the OVA as "episode 13," and the website lists the OVA's title as "Watashi, Shain Ryokō tte Hajimete na node…" (I, Because It's My First Company Trip…) Tokunō teases that the OVA will be a public bath episode. [...] www.animenewsnetwork.com

Yea I don't get people who don't read but also like anime then complain about things not ending but can't be asued to go read the manga or lns.
In some ways I do get it becauseasy the industry has gone overboard in doing that though.
|
It's just some people enjoy different entertainment mediums to others. Do think it's sad how little people read these days with how easy it is to read. Just because you're upset that anime didn't end doesn't mean you'll suddenly enjoy a medium you dislike. Really dislike people telling others to "just go read the manga/LN" as if that justifies anything.
|
People know how the industry works by now. They aren't going to animate a full source material unless it's shorter. It's like all those people going omg when spice and wolf s3....it's like you do know there are 17 volumes worth of content for you to enjoy just sitting there right? If you enjoy the story I don't see why you would have such an aversion to switching formats..it is the story/characters you want to know more about.
|
It's a completely different experience? If it was the same you wouldn't have the constant battle of "book did it better" or "movie is better".
