If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. Best anime to show your mom? That depends on the mom i'd say. But if i had to make a general recommendation to someone a generation or two older than me i'd probably go with something like maybe cowboy bebop for something more 'serious' or maybe something like tonari no seki-kun for something short and incredibly lighthearted. I also think death parade might be 'popular' with an older audience. But who knows, maybe a movie is easier to digest for someone older in age but new to anime. Maybe something like Redline? But well that is more style over substance, so that'd again depend on the person.

Best anime to show your mom? Dunno about yours but for mine it would probably be a crime thriller (because she is reading those like crazy in her free time). Things that come to my mind are Monster, GitS: Stand Alone Complex... A movie would probably be easier though, so there is GitS (1995). I could also very well imagine that she would enjoy ghibli movies like Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away etc. What's her native language btw. It's actually weird but it's one of the most important things to consider. I know my mom wouldn't watch japanese stuff with sub titles. If your mom's english is good then my above suggestions are all legit because they all have an english dub. For my mom I had to look out for german dubs because her english isn't too great I guess. Movies are easier to find in other languages as well.

You had over 80 episodes in the anime, much of it following Yang, watching him deal with the struggles of his life while still holding onto his ideals, you are with him with his happy times and sad times, you watch him get married, you watch him raise Julian, etc. And then finally, after much struggle, Yang has pretty much achieved his objective, hes gonna go negotiate with Reinhard. The climax of Season 2 has been surpassed, and we are going to get their second meeting. But then.... 82 happens. I was never as emotionally invested in Kircheis as I was in Yang, and while Kircheis' death was definitely a shocker, killing off the main character after so much build up was way more shocking imo. And then you feel even worse when you hear that about 1 year after Yang died, his voice actor died as well. + Show Spoiler + Kircheis died in the way he lived which while shocking still felt "good". He gave his life to the man that he loved to keep the promise of the woman he loved. His death mirrored how noble a character he was. He also needed to die to bring conflict to the story. Reinhard is a near perfect leader on his own but when you add Kircheis he becomes the ultimate leader that cannot be beaten or make mistakes. Yang on the other hand never wanted greatness. He wanted to just be a normal guy living an average life while studying/writing history. His own greatness/ideals was like a curse to him always propelling him into higher positions. Dying in an almost pedestrian way fits it but also makes it so much more tragic. He got a silly death of an average man instead of great death to mirror what he was forced into. Definitely think it's not only some of the most ballsy writing in anime history but also some of the best. Didn't know that about his VA. Really sad ![]()

So far, aside from sequels, it looks kind of weak. The only one I'm really interested in so far is Boku dake ga Inai Machi. I was also interested in Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu until I saw the preview which looked silly. Btw. is Schwarzesmarken worth watching if you didn't read/played Muv-Luv Alternative? (sent?)

I'm not sure how to respond to this .LoGH is just a story about great men and women. Watching these people give up their lives is like watching the potential for humanity fall. They feel more like lifelong pieces of you dying than merely fictional characters. I may never have the strength in my ideals as Yang or the ambition to change the world for the better as Reinhard but seeing people be at the forefront of that potential is breathtaking. It's one of those stories that show you don't need average Joes or relatable people to make an audience feel for the story/characters. ps: + Show Spoiler + Bucock's death while we knew it was coming was still so saddening. Such a great man dying for such a backwards society just because he believed in the potential of that society. The very fact that it pains Reinhard makes it so much more saddening.
