I'll just list 3 of my 9 or 10-rated anime on MAL that haven't been cited yet and are a bit "unconventional" (edit: Hmm, not unconventional maybe, and not underrated either, they're all 8+ on MAL, but definitely not of the type that is usually talked about in this thread): Katanagatari, Akagi and Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. They all had what I like to find in a great anime series: great music, great voice acting, great mood, great pace in the story. Visuals are a bit secondary for me, as long as the rest is there, it's all good. Also, I enjoyed a lot of what everyone has already mentioned, there just are those classics that everyone (well, almost) will love. | ||

If I had to pick my favorite... that's hard. It's incredibly difficult to rate different genres against each other even if I enjoyed both tremendously. I even stopped rating things on MAL just because it gave me a headache. But luckily everyone seems to be posting lists so I can make do with narrowing things down just a bit. Monogatari Series (with a special mention to s2 cat arc) FMA:B Yozakura Quartet (series?) Gatchaman CROWDS Welcome to the NHK Pet Girl of Sakurasou Shinsekai Yori I really need to work on my backlog more, most everything other people are posting for me is, "I haven't watched that... but I was planning to...." A lot of just random stuff I'm watching this season could easily be replaced with something like Katanagatari which I'm confident will be worthy of adding to the favorites list. Not watching much next season so hopefully that changes a little bit. | ||

Then i randomly decided to just start posting anyways. actually my first post here was something like a scathing paragraph about how hard it is to come here when it seems like everybody knows each other etc. and everybody responded with "Just post anyways man! we're all friendly" Steins;gate was really good, Do-do-do! + Show Spoiler + Also cross game was super good man. the romance/drama type storyline (with the family of sisters and the new girl that moved in...i'm trying not to make huge spoilers here lol) was really good and the baseball aspect was well done, it's a close 2nd behind Major for my favorite baseball anime (it's tied with diamond no ace) | ||
