Pretty sure Frolossus is into lolis. Just sayin'

@Shock710: if you have the time, I'd recommend it. Considering how much longer it is than KS, it has a better story imo. I didn't care much for the MC in Katawa Shoujo. Yuuji on the other hand is very likable.

The 2nd and 3rd Grisaia VNs aren't translated, right? In light of that, I dunno how it would be for a "first" VN. I'd recommend something like FSN or Sharin no Kuni for a first VN. Or, if one wants to be awesome, the Muv-Luv trilogy.

Meikyuu and Rakuen aren't translated yet. I did bother Ecael a lot for spoilers but why not. It'll probably be at least another year++ before Meikyuu gets translated.

Assuming the kickstarter works out, it seems like they're still going to translate GnK first/(again?). idek.

That said, Rakuen OP is glorious...

Well I definitely plan on FSN, in fact that was the whole reason I started thinking about dling VN's in the first place. If you go back far enough, I even asked here about where to look/good place to find them, but like all things, google was all that was needed. The problem was that I'm actually interested in having a clean viewing of the UBW that's airing (and it has been fucking awesome btw), without a bias based on the source material (which is how i prefer my anime in the first place).
BW. There will always be a special place in my heart for the game I spent 10 years to be mediocre at.

FSN was an outstanding VN. Of course it had a few problems that nagged the shit out of me (if you happened to read my commentary in this thread as I was going through it) but overall it was a great experience for my 1st VN (is it longer than Grisaia? I spent like 24 hours on each route in FSN so it felt pretty long).

Grisaia as I am playing it seems to have 1) a lot less choices and stuff and 2) less features then the FSN one which allowed you to view the pictures of the scenes separately from the main menu as well as actually telling you how long you have been playing and other misc things 3) The main character has no voice in it as opposed to FSN where every character had a voice, was kinda weird to get used to.

Also Yumiko/Amane/Sachi make it hard to choose best girl. Michiru and Makina are good for some comedy aspects but I tend of weary of them quickly.

Then again, I only started the VN because I knew the short ass anime adaptation would skip a lot and I want to know all the girls back stories and such, sucks that the other 2 aren't translated yet.

I think the first VN I ever read was Tsukihime, and then FSN. After that, its kind of a blur what I read next. Probably Ever 17? Ever 17 was really good, the last route in that one just completely blows you away. Sharin similarity blows you away in its last arc.

I don't know how I feel about wanting to watch adaptions before the source. This UBW anime seems to be a rare exception, with the adaption being very good. For a counter example, I for one am extremely glad I read Higurashi before I watched the anime adaptions of it, and didn't have my experience ruined or colored prior to reading. The VN is extremely good, while the animes rank amongst the works I hate the most out of all anime I've completed.

More often than not, the main characters of VNs are not voiced. FSN is a rarity in terms of that. Other VNs might only get partial MC voicing, if that. For example, the main character of Muv-Luv pretty much only gets voiced in some rare flashbacks (and its amusing to listen to it since hes voiced by Kira Yamato).

It's still early, np. I had a makeshift ranking of the Mihama girls after a few hours into the game and it changed slightly after finishing a couple routes. My impressions changed after some of their backstories, etc.

Omg I just got to the part where Makina is trying to buy the MC to be her dad....the whole scene was so sad...she was so desperate.

Btw, how many of you "explore" VNs? Meaning that you actually go through the game based on your gut and pick options that you want.
Not that there's much depth of choice when it comes to Grisaia but I actually looked up the walk through for GnK and did routes that I wanted to do first.

i pick routes and stick them in order of preference
playing blind isn't gratifying when you put like 50 hours into a game to get a route you don't like

Ehh it depends. If it's stuff like Kara no Shoujo then sure, I'll go in blind at first (although I did use a walkthrough after one or two tries due to that goddamn map). Otherwise I don't bother.

Most VNs don't really offer much in the way of choice. Either route splits are blatantly obvious, in which case a guide isn't needed, or it's obtuse as fuck, in which case a guide is needed. It doesn't help that bad ends tend to be pretty mediocre.

Well I plan on making my first play through a "blind" exploration. I'd like to pick the options I would choose (admittedly that's not very many in GnK). But, after that i'll go find a walkthrough. I have been saving pretty frequently (are other VN's like this) since there's no split until much later I plan to cut out as much of the basic beginning stuff as possible. And a trick i picked up from rpg's is to spread out the saves into other save slots, and only replace one when you're absolutely positive you won't need to go back to that point in time (in RPG's i tend to use like 5 or 6 save slots...a little redundant but it has saved me hours of doing the same thing again many times).
BW. There will always be a special place in my heart for the game I spent 10 years to be mediocre at.
