[...] It's really not a good show but it's only mediocre/bad and not like you'll get raging mad about it either. It's the most generic harem show I've ever seen and nothing about it that stands out. The comedy aspects or the general "setting" are quite close to TWGOK with both being parodies of datim sims of some sort.
That being said, if you like generic harem you might actually like the show. It doesn't look awful, the girls are a tad more childish from a looks perspective (not that they're lolis, except for the loli) and you won't get eyecancer from watching it, which let's be honest, is important for those kind of shows. It's really light hearted in general while not making any sense whatsoever. But that's to be expected. If you can laugh about it from time to time it might be worth a watch but otherwise only if you're really really bored and got nothing else to do or if you've left home and family on a mission to watch every recent harem anime out there.
All in all the word generic describes it pretty well I think, give it a try and you'll know if you like it after one episode. I'd say Haganai is worse as a comparison.

If you take a look at the 6 best selling manga of 2014 so far without an anime adaption: (Assassination Classroom, One Punch Man, Shokugeki no Soma, Sakamoto desu ga?, Ajin and Prison school) Two of them already got their anime adaptions announced. Maybe i can begin hoping and fearing for a OPM anime. I already know a OPM anime would never be able to live up to Murata's art and it would be too easy to fuck up the series by cutting some of the new side-stories written by both ONE and Murata, or by not switching artstyles for Saitama depending on the mood. But i'd also love to see stuff like licenseless rider vs Sea king animated.
OPM doesn't really need an adaption though. I mean, the manga makes it pretty clear what's going on at any minute, even with fights. You'd basically just be gaining the voice actors with it.

I know that it doesn't need an adaption(I'm very happy with murata's redraw), but anime adaptions of manga are typically advertisements, so it's almost bound to get one eventually. And when/if it finally comes i atleast want to be able to enjoy it somewhat, and some of the scenes would be great to see animated if the animation, soundtrack and voice acting are good.
But if the animation is full of QUALITY and it has shitty voice actors it would just be depressing.

Date A Live has dumb Houki and is as generic as a Harem as you can get.

Poor wife and daughter + Show Spoiler [FMA:BH] +That guy raised his deathflag so fucking hard with his loving wife and beautiful daughter. I saw it coming a mile away, but still was shocked when it happened Edit: New Chihayafuru OVA came out, more stuff about Hanano-san from the looks of skimming through it. Will still watch ofc. + Show Spoiler +ya, it was a shocking death. I was hoping he'll manage to survive but the guy who finds a big secret almost always ends up dying it seems. Mustang must be wanting to burn up everything after that. you haven't watched FMA at all? huh well you're in for some good stuff. + Show Spoiler +I dunno about good stuff: a father turning his daughter into a chimera, having a wife widowed/daugther without a father (aka Hughes dying), having Greed dropped into fire etc... lots of sad stories so far but everything is also coming together so can't complain there. Also, seems like their father is involved in this whole business. Wonder what kind of story lies there.

How big is the difference in terms of quality and story from FMA to FMA:B? I started watching Brotherhood but the first couple episodes were almost exactly the same as FMA and I got bored, is it worth the time investment to keep going?

Quite a massive difference, because the story diverges significantly once Greed shows up.Its faithful to the manga and just better.
The original was good to but it is an anime original story that doesnt have anything close to what Brotherhood brings.

Wait BF, your already at the point where + Show Spoiler + That was pretty far along in the original FMA iirc. Maybe it happens earlier in Brotherhood?

There's another 50 episodes left lol so it seems likely that Brotherhood speeds things up a bit or the original FMA took its time then. I did read someone saying that brotherhood starts out fast but I think it was the first couple of episodes. Looks like you've got something to watch now

The thing with Hughes happens real early in Brotherhood. Brotherhood sorta speeds through everything up to after that Lab 5, and then diverges from where the first anime went.
IMO the first anime did everything up to that Lab 5 better, but everything after was muuuch better in Brotherhood.

FMA diverged completely and made a shitty anime orignal ending, imho anyway. I despise the ending of FMA. FMA:B is great though.
FMA had a slightly stronger start overall though, FMA:B felt like it was made for people that read the manga or watched the first FMA.

Brotherhood and manga was standard shounen while FMA was just grimderp. Both haver their good qualities, but I guess a lot of people really despised the original ending and silly movie.
|
I think FMA B was much better overall in most regards. It had some early issues in the first eps where they didn't know how to create atmosphere and mixed bad comedy in semi-serious situations. But they improved rapidly and cleared that out after the first 10 eps or so and I'd say it went consistently pure amaze-balls after that.
Only thing I remember being better about the first FMA was... + Show Spoiler +The Chimera girl was way, way more emotional and sad in the first FMA.
