To say they can't franchise the burger joint because someone else can make burgers is silly, specially if Shiro is taking a more capitalist approach which seems to be what they are doing. They can easily do it as long as they are better than the competition, but it seems they just want to raise enough from the 1 burger place to buy a big building that will give them more returns. Can they charge rent? lol I can't think what else they could do besides that with the buildings. | ||

Whatever the case though, the method pissed me off. The monopoly using method pissed me off. But I can't complain because I didn't guess method before they revealed in vol 2. Sigh. Zone thing pisses me off too, but that's because it was introduced at the very beginning of the books and anime just randomly slips this in now when it is obvious how important the concept is. | ||

Just watched the first movie of LoGH. Um. Wow. I started watching the OVA yet but I'm a little worried about how I'll react to the inconsistent drawing, because the original is beautiful. But whatever, the hand drawn art is only one part of it. It does make me think a little of The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay though, if anyone here has read that book. I look forward to see how their relationship is developed. | ||

There's no trademark, patent or copyright protection for them if they start to disseminate the knowledge. This primitive level of economy is reminiscent of the guild-dominated economy of Europe. But they don't have recourse if a guild member turns tail and joins another guild for money/position/etc. If Shiro wants to milk the most out of this it's by pushing those glasses further up his nose and keeping an iron fist over production. Yes, copy cats might be lackluster, but they can undercut, and at some point the benefit from tastier food will be outweighed by the cost. | ||

Unless I'm wrong, the cat guy said that you just need to cook the way you would cook in the outside world and not using the "crafting" system to cook the ingredients, which is why the food taste so bad people rely on the crafting system. When the way the game works is more akin to real life now. He was teaching those other guys to cook, and you can see the food wasn't as good as he could be so why would everyone else just be best chef in the world from the get go when the cat guy and these other cooks had to learn from scratch?. If it works like in the real world then we would all be world class chefs without ever really "practicing". While Coke may not have a trademark on selling sugared water, they do are the only ones with that particular taste/fomula and they've kept that a secret for many years. You bring another point, advertising and marketing, why couldn't they advertise Shiro's burger joint? that could be easily done to win over the customers, sure they don't have twitter or tv but I doubt advertisement started with either. Just think of it as going to mcdonalds over going to a ridiculously expensive restaurant or not even that expensive just better quality food, they can easily compete with mcdonalds with their own burger king or they can just offer a different/better more expensive product, no reason why a more premium product wouldn't sell. Sure those guys can make a burger too but they don't use the best ingredients so ours is more expensive. The market will obviously get flooded with proper tasting food so there won't be a tasting like nothing vs tasting like food from this point forward, once everyone starts cooking which you say they will be rockstars at from the get go then it will be about who makes the best food at that point. | ||

He wasn't teaching people how to cook, though that will be a thing at some point. He was teaching them what their limitations are in terms of cooking. Rather than turning out better food, their goal was to turn out things that wasn't junk. In case it wasn't obvious enough, cooking levels determines how much you can do to food before it turns into junk. Notice how the anime had done basically nothing thus far on how to improve the tastes of the said cooking as opposed to not failing. Incidentally the capturing shit alive part wasn't in the source, just wanted to throw that out while I remember. | ||
