Macross 7 was pretty good, overall. If I had to give Macross 7's two biggest flaws, is that one its too long, and two that its animation sucks dick. The first 18~ episodes were fairly slow, not much happening in them. Probably the weakest part of the series. But then from that point, it gets progressively better, once Sound Force is established. The first half is very episodic, the second half is still sort of episodic but not as much. I think if they cut down on some of the episodes that were light on content, the anime would have benefited greatly. However, to offset this, I thought the screenplay of the anime was great, and the use of insert songs was very good (which is kind of a requirement for a music-focused anime like this lol). The anime is all about music, and the power of music, and stuff like that. So compared to other Macross entries that are more "standard" mecha stuff, Macross 7 is more "over the top", in that it takes the Macross' series focus on song and music to the logical extreme. As in, Basara actually flies out in a Valkyrie, singing and playing Guitar, trying to bring peace.. And for the most part, it works for the anime. This is all made possible by Basara's singing voice, Yoshiki Fukuyama. The guy does an amazing job singing Fire Bomber's songs, and every episode as several of his songs in them. Fire Bomber music is also better than the music in Macross Frontier. Just sayin'. I'm still torn on Basara's character, though, just like how I was in my mid-series thoughts (that I posted here). But later on hes much more likable/tolerable, though I don't know if its because Basara himself changed, or just everyone else around him changed. Early on Basara was just a dick, non-stop, to people like Mylene and Gamlin, but later they are his bros. I think its probably more about them starting to like Basara, than the other way around. So the lesson to take from this is that selfish guys with a huge inability to express themselves in conversation are much more likable when everyone around said person just accepts that and rolls with it. Gamlin is my favorite Macross 7 character. I don't know that I've seen a character like him before. On one hand, hes a super hotblooded badass, and the main soldier pilot of the show. But then in his personal/private life, Gamlin is really moe, like ZNF-moe. The combination of badass and moe is rather amusing. The blonde flower loli showed up in every single episode, almost always trying to give Basara flowers. + Show Spoiler + And finally was able to give Basara her flowers in the last episode spoilers On that matter, everyone was sing in the end. Max was, Milia was, Blonde Flower Loli was, Exsedol was. Gamlin was. + Show Spoiler + Even the Protodevlin were The basic grunt mecha of the Macross 7 fleet, the VF-11, has to be the most worthless grunt unit I've ever seen. I don't remember if a VF-11 ever downed an enemy fighter. All they did was fly out, and then get massacred in waves. It was almost like 50% of the Macross 7 Fleet's power were concentrated in like 6 elite pilots, 49% in Battle 7 (the giant Fortress Battleship), and then 1% in their hundreds of fodder valkyries that only die. Also finished watching Heroic Age recently as well. Streamed it and watched it with Echo. A while back, like 6~ years ago, I was told it was "Starcraft the Anime", and thus watched it expecting that. Well, ti was NOT Starcraft the Anime, so I angerly dropped it. However, now I believe that expectations are the enemy of enjoyment, and I shouldn't let preconceived expectations of an anime prior to watching it affect my judgement of it. I've given other anime second chances before, so I gave Heroic Age one too. And I enjoyed it this time. Was good, not great, but worth the watch. Lots of good space battles, space monsters battling it out, and a good setting made it for an overall good experience. My main gripe about the show is that it is just full of wasted potential. While the following may sound real negative, keep in mind that I did like it, and I'm only complaining because of what could have been. A few things stood out to me as wasted potential. One was just how insanely powerful the Nodos were. The Nodos were so powerful that they effectively trivialized everything else in the show. All the cool space battles, Humanity's campaign against the Silver and Bronze, all of it just came down to Belcross punching things. Belcross was so powerful it could punch space, and make things explode. Other Nodos were similarly as powerful, although not as OP as Belcross. So the battles that actually mattered in the series were Nodos battles, and the cool space battles were relegated to a side show that didn't actually matter in the grand scheme of things. The other is the use of the Bronze Tribe. At the very beginning of the anime, it sets up the major players. The Tribe of Gold calls out to the universe, and 3 races come to the stars to answer their call. The Silver, the Bronze, and the Heroic. Then a litttle after, the Tribe of Iron (aka Humanity) comes to the stars on their own power. This is clearly meant to setup the major powers at play in the show. However, as it turns out, the Bronze (space bugs) aren't actually their own race. They are controlled by the Silver, and are just glorified fodder for Belcross to punch really hard. So instead of a three-way political race mechanic that could have been used for great effect, it just comes down to Humanity vs the Silver and their bitch. So like I said, that sounds overly negative, but it just bothered me about those. The anime is still pretty good. And with Heroic Age finished, I've seen all but one (to my knowledge) "Hirai Face" anime. So, if I had to rank them, it would go: Gundam SEED>MJP>Scryed>Infinite Ryvius>Heroic Age>>>[Huge quality gap]>Fafner>Gundam SEED Destiny>>>Gin'iro no Olynsis. I think the only one I haven't seen thus far is Linebarrels, but I haven't heard much good about the anime, and if watching Gin'iro no Olynsis has taught me anything, I must avoid it. | ||

She's slightly annoying, but plays well enough so that it seems less like she likes him as much as the others, and more like she's teasing him. Finally, how long is the series going to be? I'm hoping to see the other girls' mechs in a good fight, but it really feels like everybody else is being brushed off. | ||

They just went full slutty on everyone. Maybe EP05 was a bit of an overkill and you can't take that as an average but I really don't see that much of what made Charles/Laura awesome at all. They're just two more slutty girls who are craving his dick like you'd be craving for oxygen in outer space. Not that the latter part is anything new at all, but the way they're going at it is all the same for everyone right now... That being said, hit me up on irc if you haven't watched IS-06 yet Emnjay. Just finished my homework that was due in 2 hours and downloaded IS-6 by entirely legal means. Haven't watched it yet, so if you want to watch it together I'm up for it and can wait for you. | ||
