Watched this. Cried at the start and end :'( Touching story. I thought at the start that he was just ignoring her and she can be seen only to realize later that only Jintan can see her. I liked the development of the story, the pace and all the secret conspiring that were going on even when they were kids. Hearing that Poppo saw her as she was drowning was crushing, same with hearing how it all played out One of the better animes I've watched. I'm happy that the authors had a proper ending for her. I would've been sadder if she just disappeared but once they had the messages then they could all see and hear her, felt like good closure to me. I can only imagine how they must all feel about losing her. Will write more since it's already late here.
PS: the message to Jintan, that she loves her and it's the love to get married was one of the most touching in the story. True love even if they are still teenagers.

I think it's hard not to be cheesy. I mean, Imagine if Menma didn't do all that stuff or Jintan didn't react the way he did and instead it was all serious then I think he would lose a lot of readers because it's too serious. At the same time, just how serious can you be? I mean, we know the story: + Show Spoiler +
we know how most were involved that day. That Menma gathered them to make Jintan cry because she promised his mom then she ran after him after he left and slipped falling into the river and drowning. To them, this is so serious yet Menma was happy most times(Cried couple). It was in stark contract to the idea that she should be completely sad since she died. Her mother breaking down when they talked about the fireworks was so moving. 10 years and she still remembers. Time was frozen to her, must've been rough :'( It must also been rough for her son and husband seeing as the family wasn't as close and such after that.
I guess my point is, I loved the show, was happy that they all got a chance to confess and also to tell Menma how much they loved her especially Jintan who I feel should've been the first to tell her that he loves her, marriage type of love. I thought the ending was spot on and nice to see everyone back together and trying to improve themselves. Still a bit sad that now that she is gone since even if she is reincarnated, the age difference between them would be huge so even if they find each other somehow(she remember names if reincarnated), it won't be the same anymore. I feel that just saying that she wants to rest in peace and how much she loved them then leaving it at that might've been as good or better of an ending. Anyone else thought the same?.

Yes I agree about Touma, that crap with her at the end was like NOOOOOOOO TOUMA WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU D:!. Probably didn't sleep for several days before the concert and passed out when her system felt she stopped pumping adrenaline once she was "done". I don't know about that in the hospital, I think you're getting REALLY ahead of yourself. While yes there's been some moments in the show that show they like each other, I don't think we're in the realm of people like kissing/being overly affectionate towards each other yet. She'll probably go to the hospital but both Setsuna and Haruki will be there, just like they did after her freak out with the teacher in the music room, Haruki wants everyone to feel part of the group and that they're a "unit" not him and Touma and Setsuna on the outside that's what caused toothbrush-gate lol. While yes it is very obvious that Setsuna likes Haruki (Also Touma I mean she worked so hard for his "dream", no one would do that unless they liked someone A LOT), Setsuna worked so hard to recruit Touma for the band because Haruki wanted her there not because she had any particular attachment to the piano playing person she didn't know lol.
She got jealous I'll say 90% because of her past history with her friends and what happened there, she didn't want to feel left out of the new group she found, I think if she was perceiving that Touma was stealing Haruki romantically she would have pulled out the claws not just be all emo about it. It's obvious they both like Haruki and Haruki likes Touma because she's so cool and talented (not that Touma thinks she is lol), that part by the train when Touma pulls him off the train was like :O! TOUMA WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? Haruki was like O_O WUT!?. Either way I think the "dream" is probably some sort of song or something and that's why Lizuka gave it to Touma who is very musically talented and all that, she was probably writing some music/working on some arrangements for the event? that's my best guess since like you I don't have much to go by.
If I had to "guess" which at this point is pretty difficult, I'll say Touma but I can't say that sure by much since he promised Setsuna that whole I'll never let you go and stop talking to you blah blah thing, I guess we'll find out, this show is going to be long and lots of shit will happen.

Well aren't they still in 2007? so the notebook is only like 1 month old, according to Touma's clock which they showed A LOT it was like november something, I'm mostly curious about the book than anything else at this point lol. WTF is it about? What is in it? What is the "dream"? Why did Lizuka gave it to Touma except for the fact that it seems she's totally into him and she's musically talented? Which is the one thing that makes me think it's musically related.
While she may not have any family none that we see (though in the first episode you can see her mom went to cheer for her at the concert), Haruki doesn't have any family to speak of either, her mom seems to be MIA from episode 1, all we know is that she exists because she left that note about dinner. But I don't think Haruki is that forward to be honest, I doubt he'll see her being in the hospital as an "opportunity" to do anything but take care of her which I doubt she'll do without Setsuna 99% of the time. But I could be wrong so we'll see next week.
For now I think Setsuna will make an effort to get closer to Touma and finally get her to call her by her first name , we'll see how that works out for her. I really do think she's making an effort to get close to Touma while obviously liking Haruki. Also there's one thing I wanted to ask, you remember when Setsuna and Touma were together in the music room in episode 4 when Setsuna asks her when they will be able to practice together and Touma says the weekend, Setsuna has this odd look for a second after Touma said that.. Am I looking too into it or do you think that look means anything?. They do sort of hint at Setsuna being overly fake sometimes, and there she had that odd look and then replied with a happy looking face suddenly. I don't think Haruki ever implied anything as lovers or otherwise with that, just that he'll stick around in her life no matter what unless she doesn't want him to be there any more, which is nice but again if Setsuna doesn't want him he's free to go :o. I don't think we'll see anything ROMANTIC like kisses or any advancements until after the concert, I think that's how they are handling things, once they open that can of worms is gonna get ugly so I think they are taking their time with that. This theory is helped by the fact that Haruki was saying how that was the last time they were all together and happy, so I think of it as you know no one was doing anything behind anyone's back and no one was declaring love for anyone we were just happy friends lol.
good question, not sure XD I just saw 2007 on the front of the book. If it was a month back, I think that he would remember it. I'm wondering the same thing. Just what is in that book to make her work so hard. Maybe she knew it was him playing the guitar from way back and saw this as an opportunity to help him since they supposedly would play along each other from the different rooms.
ya, of course, we don't see her but we know she's there in person at least. I mean, with Touma, she's not there at all. She's in Paris the last three years so ya, imo, no comparison but I get your point. Haruki said that like on the very first episode when they were showing that footage of the concert and then showed them like backstabbing each other over Haruki lol, watch the first episode again is like right at the beginning. Another question I wanted to ask you, but you took forever to reply to this you jerk. Did you see in the last episode when Lizuka was talking to Haruki and asking him "About that thing you made" then he saw Setsuna coming and shut him up? What was that thing he made? he made something? wtf was it? I have no clue what they were talking about, were they referring to the book Lizuka gave Touma? was he finally going to tell him he gave it to her? I'm very curious, that totally would have gone under the radar had I not watched it for like the 4th time.
Also yes I caught the whole thing with the bunnies, I think it means something as well. I still think her demeanor when Touma told her about the weekend meant something, she has a very odd and serious look on her face and then like YAY OKAY COOL OMG SO HAPPY!. Watch it again, I think you'll find yourself seeing stuff you missed before. I don't think they are hidden necessarily but there are so many other stuff going on that you don't pay attention to the "lesser" stuff or characters.
I'm pretty positive that we're in 2007, the clock says as much in fact I just watched the first few secs of episode 5 because I know they show that clock again it says 2007/11/18 Sun 15:12, so the notebook is from a month ago, maybe he just didn't identify it because he didn't see "October 2007" written on it. I don't think Touma will be in the hospital long enough or at all maybe for anything serious to happen, anyone to feel like OMG I CAN'T LEAVE THOSE 2 ALONE WTF /STAYS!. They finally got the "band" together, really together in episode 5 with that whole skipping class because Touma had a freak out moment, I think it will stay that way until after the performance, maybe they'll have a moment but Touma is in full denial mode about Haruki and Haruki know's she's a bit mean... so we'll have to wait for her to open up a little I think. AnoHana gets almost everyone, it's made to make you cry if it doesn't you have NO HEART! you're a ROBOT!. Such a wonderful anime, I love that show so so much. It makes me cry every time but it's like happy tears, not sad about it really you're just overwhelmed by what happens that you just cry ;(. Excellent stuff. Glad you watched it. Hmm well if you don't remember much from that first scene of the show then you should go take it a look, he says quite a few things in that part that has ramifications throughout the rest of the show at least so far. I'm slightly skeptic (though it's most likely the book) but why would he be embarrassed enough to shut him up so rudely as Setsuna got to school about the book? doesn't seem like the type of thing he would be embarrassed about UNLESS Lizuka took it upon himself to give it to Touma and IT IS something he would be embarrassed about. In which case it should be interesting to see what happens when he finds out about that lol. Also funny how Touma would go through so much trouble for "his dream" when she's in full denial mode about liking him lol. NOT ADDICTED, I can quit whenever I want . Nah just I feel the episodes have all these little details that I miss unless I watch the show a few times, I don't want to miss possible "clues" as to what might happen next. Also you didn't even noticed the clock with the date... so fail, lack of "addiction" totally makes you look bad lol.
The bunnies were too obvious, she had the bunny all by itself with her and then when she was happy with Haruki omg back with the white bunny, kind of funny how him saying her name totally made her night lol. Such a little thing. Okay that makes sense, yeah she seemed to be pensive for a little bit there during that scene. You know at first I didn't know the date of the show either, during WA1 it was like 90's and no one had a phone lol so since this one looked more modern I thought it was like 2012 or something, dunno why they picked 2007. Well if something DOES happen between either of them, I will be very curious to see what that is , but I don't think it would since remember everyone was happy until the performance lol. I think that's what made everyone love Menma so much, that she was such a happy little girl who cheered up everyone when they were down and made them even happier when they were in a good mood. Well I'm sure losing your kid is a scarring experience, one so cheerful and good specially I mean you can tell she brought joy into that house.
I don't think any type of reincarnation would have been good for the show or even a little realistic, though I guess that ship sailed when a ghost came back to visit her friends 10 years later <.<. BUT STILL, it would have been odd. I was 100% happy with that ending, it was just a beautiful thing coming to an ending that was perfect. That's why I love rewatching that show, it just feels like such a wonderful story and it ends in such a way that I'm left satisfied after I finish. I love Menma's character so much so I was never in a position to dislike her like I do Taiga haha, I mean who wouldn't love a girl like that? I felt bad the redhead was kind of left out and didn't have Jintan's attention but that's how shit was with Menma around, same for the other girl. Everyone was just drawn to Menma because of the way she was. I really look forward to that movie they made, want to watch it already, seems to have quite a bit of new footage so I would like to see if any new relationships flourished during that time if it's been long enough since Menma disappeared.

well, I feel like a robot at times. I didn't cry in Toradora even after seeing that Christmas episode several times. Same with all the other times in it. I think this was a first but even then, it wasn't a full on effect. Anohana only got me at the start due to just how heart broken I felt about what happened. I mean, cmon, imagine losing a friend who you loved a lot because they slipped and drowned in the river and it was partially your fault. I would feel so crushed. Heck, I felt crushed just hearing the story and seeing their pain. God, such a depressing thought >< Cried towards the end since I knew that she will depart soon enough and they won't see her again. Since the ending was what I had in mind, I would've been even sadder than Toradora :/
I loved Menma's character as well. I couldn't tell why they went all white but I think it was supposed to resemble purity. The way she acted with Jintan and such, so close. How everyone was torn apart by the incident and never spoke of it again. Getting goosebumps just writing this >.> I liked how as you mentioned, she was the happy kid. Always cheered everyone and never thought about hurting anyone even after she was told they are going after Jintan. I mean, you can't get any purer than that. The fact that they all still love her after all this time just shows what a wonderful person she was.
yes, agree. Reincarnation wasn't a good idea for the show. I'm just thinking if things continued after, even if reincarnated, I doubt she'll remember them and that makes me sad cmon, I love Menma's character as well. Thing with Toradora, even those the ending was a bit underwhelming, I know and pretty confident that they will continue things as they left them after she came back. In Anohana, it can't be continued Menma is gone! That's it! It's over! They will only be able to cherish the memories. It helped them to face their guilt and move on and they all at least got to speak to Menma and tell her how much they loved her but SHE'S GONE FOR GOOD! Somethings never work out like you want them to. Both Anaru and Yukiatsu were left out but that's because Jintan and Menma were so close as kids and loved each other even though they never said it directly. Yes, I look forward to movie as well. I was talking to a friend I convinced to watch the show and he also did NOT notice a bunch of stuff from that first episode, those glimpses of the future they show and what not so you're not alone. That's why I watch the episodes a few times to make sure I GOT EVERYTHING. I was only confused about the toothbrush thing because I thought Setsuna had gone home and somehow took the toothbrush with her lol, that didn't make sense so once I realized she was staying over I was like THAT MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE!. No I'm not addicted, I'm just being meticulous about it lol THERE'S A LOT OF DETAIL!.
I still don't know what all those embarrassing things are tbh lol, I haven't been able to recall or watch the episodes again. Off the top of my head... well maybe when she pulled him off the train that might have been embarrassing to her because it looked very out of character. Besides that nothing else. My friend told me he thinks the book thing is a song, which makes a lot of sense but I'm wondering if that song has vocals lol so maybe she'll bring in Setsuna at some point to help, man that's a lot of work for her to pass out like that just to work on something for someone she's busy pretending she doesn't like .
You're this forums new anime addict, watching like 20 shows at once this season lol. I was reading some of the stuff you were yapping about and I'm like who the fuck is Lucia or whatever name I don't remember any more. Toradora got me a couple of times as I mentioned before, I don't mind, the moments when that happened were really deserving haha. Yeah the whole story of AnoHana is like PREPARE TO CRY LIKE A BABY BECAUSE YOU WILL!. A little girl drowned at such a young age and all her friends were destroyed by the accident as so were their friendship, every character that was touched by the tragedy had deep scars so when you saw how they reacted to the mention of Menma it was pretty heart breaking. Specially her mom and just her whole family.
The whole character of Menma has that effect, it will make you cry to see how pure and good she was, I don't think anyone could do anything but love her deeply and lament her death so so much. If she was "flawed" I don't think it would have the same effect, she was really something and it was interesting to see how she contrasted with her friends, they all had these thoughts of jealousy, envy and even hatred towards her or each other but she was just happy and always tried to make everyone happy.
I'm happy with the ending, was one of the best endings I've ever watched rivaled by maybe Code Geass and Gurren Lagann (this is based on how satisfied I was with it not anything else). I mean her coming back brought them all together again which is wonderful and something she's probably extremely happy to do. Can't think of a better effect from her "visit", yeah sure everyone confessed how they all loved her etc which was lovely and obviously made me cry but the ending just leaves everyone satisfied despite their best friend being dead. Can't get better than that. Will definitely watch it again at some point haha . I feel bad she won't be in their lives but I don't mind that, she touched their lives in incredibly positive ways before and after her death so now they can move on knowing she was happy when she left. I'm not sure when the movie comes out to be honest, I think it came out a while back but I haven't seen any subs for it T_T so I'll wait eagerly . I want to see how everyone moved on after the show ended. I feel a bit sad saying "moved on" but I think that was the whole point of her visit, so you know it's okay if they did even if Nanaru and Jintan became a thing.

Watched this. Cried at the start and end :'( Touching story. I thought at the start that he was just ignoring her and she can be seen only to realize later that only Jintan can see her. I liked the development of the story, the pace and all the secret conspiring that were going on even when they were kids. Hearing that Poppo saw her as she was drowning was crushing, same with hearing how it all played out One of the better animes I've watched. I'm happy that the authors had a proper ending for her. I would've been sadder if she just disappeared but once they had the messages then they could all see and hear her, felt like good closure to me. I can only imagine how they must all feel about losing her. Will write more since it's already late here.
PS: the message to Jintan, that she loves her and it's the love to get married was one of the most touching in the story. True love even if they are still teenagers.

I think it's hard not to be cheesy. I mean, Imagine if Menma didn't do all that stuff or Jintan didn't react the way he did and instead it was all serious then I think he would lose a lot of readers because it's too serious. we know how most were involved that day. That Menma gathered them to make Jintan cry because she promised his mom then she ran after him after he left and slipped falling into the river and drowning. To them, this is so serious yet Menma was happy most times(Cried couple). It was in stark contract to the idea that she should be completely sad since she died. Her mother breaking down when they talked about the fireworks was so moving. 10 years and she still remembers. Time was frozen to her, must've been rough :'( It must also been rough for her son and husband seeing as the family wasn't as close and such after that.
I guess my point is, I loved the show, was happy that they all got a chance to confess and also to tell Menma how much they loved her especially Jintan who I feel should've been the first to tell her that he loves her, marriage type of love. I thought the ending was spot on and nice to see everyone back together and trying to improve themselves. Still a bit sad that now that she is gone since even if she is reincarnated, the age difference between them would be huge so even if they find each other somehow(she remember names if reincarnated), it won't be the same anymore. I feel that just saying that she wants to rest in peace and how much she loved them then leaving it at that might've been as good or better of an ending. Anyone else thought the same?.

Well aren't they still in 2007? so the notebook is only like 1 month old, according to Touma's clock which they showed A LOT it was like november something, I'm mostly curious about the book than anything else at this point lol. WTF is it about? What is in it? What is the "dream"? Why did Lizuka gave it to Touma except for the fact that it seems she's totally into him and she's musically talented? Which is the one thing that makes me think it's musically related.
While she may not have any family none that we see (though in the first episode you can see her mom went to cheer for her at the concert), Haruki doesn't have any family to speak of either, her mom seems to be MIA from episode 1, all we know is that she exists because she left that note about dinner. But I don't think Haruki is that forward to be honest, I doubt he'll see her being in the hospital as an "opportunity" to do anything but take care of her which I doubt she'll do without Setsuna 99% of the time. But I could be wrong so we'll see next week.
For now I think Setsuna will make an effort to get closer to Touma and finally get her to call her by her first name , we'll see how that works out for her. I really do think she's making an effort to get close to Touma while obviously liking Haruki. Also there's one thing I wanted to ask, you remember when Setsuna and Touma were together in the music room in episode 4 when Setsuna asks her when they will be able to practice together and Touma says the weekend, Setsuna has this odd look for a second after Touma said that.. Am I looking too into it or do you think that look means anything?. They do sort of hint at Setsuna being overly fake sometimes, and there she had that odd look and then replied with a happy looking face suddenly. I don't think Haruki ever implied anything as lovers or otherwise with that, just that he'll stick around in her life no matter what unless she doesn't want him to be there any more, which is nice but again if Setsuna doesn't want him he's free to go :o. I don't think we'll see anything ROMANTIC like kisses or any advancements until after the concert, I think that's how they are handling things, once they open that can of worms is gonna get ugly so I think they are taking their time with that. This theory is helped by the fact that Haruki was saying how that was the last time they were all together and happy, so I think of it as you know no one was doing anything behind anyone's back and no one was declaring love for anyone we were just happy friends lol.

Haruki said that like on the very first episode when they were showing that footage of the concert and then showed them like backstabbing each other over Haruki lol, watch the first episode again is like right at the beginning. Another question I wanted to ask you, but you took forever to reply to this you jerk. Did you see in the last episode when Lizuka was talking to Haruki and asking him "About that thing you made" then he saw Setsuna coming and shut him up? What was that thing he made? he made something? wtf was it? I have no clue what they were talking about, were they referring to the book Lizuka gave Touma? was he finally going to tell him he gave it to her? I'm very curious, that totally would have gone under the radar had I not watched it for like the 4th time.
Also yes I caught the whole thing with the bunnies, I think it means something as well. I still think her demeanor when Touma told her about the weekend meant something, she has a very odd and serious look on her face and then like YAY OKAY COOL OMG SO HAPPY!. Watch it again, I think you'll find yourself seeing stuff you missed before. I don't think they are hidden necessarily but there are so many other stuff going on that you don't pay attention to the "lesser" stuff or characters.
I'm pretty positive that we're in 2007, the clock says as much in fact I just watched the first few secs of episode 5 because I know they show that clock again it says 2007/11/18 Sun 15:12, so the notebook is from a month ago, maybe he just didn't identify it because he didn't see "October 2007" written on it. I don't think Touma will be in the hospital long enough or at all maybe for anything serious to happen, anyone to feel like OMG I CAN'T LEAVE THOSE 2 ALONE WTF /STAYS!. They finally got the "band" together, really together in episode 5 with that whole skipping class because Touma had a freak out moment, I think it will stay that way until after the performance, maybe they'll have a moment but Touma is in full denial mode about Haruki and Haruki know's she's a bit mean... so we'll have to wait for her to open up a little I think. AnoHana gets almost everyone, it's made to make you cry if it doesn't you have NO HEART! you're a ROBOT!. Such a wonderful anime, I love that show so so much. It makes me cry every time but it's like happy tears, not sad about it really you're just overwhelmed by what happens that you just cry ;(. Excellent stuff. Glad you watched it. Hmm well if you don't remember much from that first scene of the show then you should go take it a look, he says quite a few things in that part that has ramifications throughout the rest of the show at least so far. I'm slightly skeptic (though it's most likely the book) but why would he be embarrassed enough to shut him up so rudely as Setsuna got to school about the book? doesn't seem like the type of thing he would be embarrassed about UNLESS Lizuka took it upon himself to give it to Touma and IT IS something he would be embarrassed about. In which case it should be interesting to see what happens when he finds out about that lol. Also funny how Touma would go through so much trouble for "his dream" when she's in full denial mode about liking him lol. NOT ADDICTED, I can quit whenever I want . Nah just I feel the episodes have all these little details that I miss unless I watch the show a few times, I don't want to miss possible "clues" as to what might happen next. The bunnies were too obvious, she had the bunny all by itself with her and then when she was happy with Haruki omg back with the white bunny, kind of funny how him saying her name totally made her night lol. You know at first I didn't know the date of the show either, during WA1 it was like 90's and no one had a phone lol so since this one looked more modern I thought it was like 2012 or something, dunno why they picked 2007. Well if something DOES happen between either of them, I will be very curious to see what that is , but I don't think it would since remember everyone was happy until the performance lol. I think that's what made everyone love Menma so much, that she was such a happy little girl who cheered up everyone when they were down and made them even happier when they were in a good mood. Well I'm sure losing your kid is a scarring experience, one so cheerful and good specially I mean you can tell she brought joy into that house.
I don't think any type of reincarnation would have been good for the show or even a little realistic, though I guess that ship sailed when a ghost came back to visit her friends 10 years later <.<. BUT STILL, it would have been odd. I was 100% happy with that ending, it was just a beautiful thing coming to an ending that was perfect. That's why I love rewatching that show, it just feels like such a wonderful story and it ends in such a way that I'm left satisfied after I finish. I love Menma's character so much so I was never in a position to dislike her like I do Taiga haha, I mean who wouldn't love a girl like that? I felt bad the redhead was kind of left out and didn't have Jintan's attention but that's how shit was with Menma around, same for the other girl. Everyone was just drawn to Menma because of the way she was. I really look forward to that movie they made, want to watch it already, seems to have quite a bit of new footage so I would like to see if any new relationships flourished during that time if it's been long enough since Menma disappeared.

I loved Menma's character as well. I couldn't tell why they went all white but I think it was supposed to resemble purity. The way she acted with Jintan and such, so close. How everyone was torn apart by the incident and never spoke of it again. Getting goosebumps just writing this >.> I liked how as you mentioned, she was the happy kid. Always cheered everyone and never thought about hurting anyone even after she was told they are going after Jintan. I mean, you can't get any purer than that. The fact that they all still love her after all this time just shows what a wonderful person she was.
yes, agree. Reincarnation wasn't a good idea for the show. I'm just thinking if things continued after, even if reincarnated, I doubt she'll remember them and that makes me sad cmon, I love Menma's character as well. Thing with Toradora, even those the ending was a bit underwhelming, I know and pretty confident that they will continue things as they left them after she came back. In Anohana, it can't be continued Menma is gone! That's it! It's over! They will only be able to cherish the memories. It helped them to face their guilt and move on and they all at least got to speak to Menma and tell her how much they loved her but SHE'S GONE FOR GOOD! I was talking to a friend I convinced to watch the show and he also did NOT notice a bunch of stuff from that first episode, those glimpses of the future they show and what not so you're not alone. That's why I watch the episodes a few times to make sure I GOT EVERYTHING. I was only confused about the toothbrush thing because I thought Setsuna had gone home and somehow took the toothbrush with her lol, that didn't make sense so once I realized she was staying over I was like THAT MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE!. No I'm not addicted, I'm just being meticulous about it lol THERE'S A LOT OF DETAIL!.
I still don't know what all those embarrassing things are tbh lol, I haven't been able to recall or watch the episodes again. Off the top of my head... well maybe when she pulled him off the train that might have been embarrassing to her because it looked very out of character. Besides that nothing else. My friend told me he thinks the book thing is a song, which makes a lot of sense but I'm wondering if that song has vocals lol so maybe she'll bring in Setsuna at some point to help, man that's a lot of work for her to pass out like that just to work on something for someone she's busy pretending she doesn't like .

Toradora got me a couple of times as I mentioned before, I don't mind, the moments when that happened were really deserving haha. Yeah the whole story of AnoHana is like PREPARE TO CRY LIKE A BABY BECAUSE YOU WILL!. A little girl drowned at such a young age and all her friends were destroyed by the accident as so were their friendship, every character that was touched by the tragedy had deep scars so when you saw how they reacted to the mention of Menma it was pretty heart breaking. Specially her mom and just her whole family.
The whole character of Menma has that effect, it will make you cry to see how pure and good she was, I don't think anyone could do anything but love her deeply and lament her death so so much. If she was "flawed" I don't think it would have the same effect, she was really something and it was interesting to see how she contrasted with her friends, they all had these thoughts of jealousy, envy and even hatred towards her or each other but she was just happy and always tried to make everyone happy.
I'm happy with the ending, was one of the best endings I've ever watched rivaled by maybe Code Geass and Gurren Lagann (this is based on how satisfied I was with it not anything else). I mean her coming back brought them all together again which is wonderful and something she's probably extremely happy to do. Can't think of a better effect from her "visit", yeah sure everyone confessed how they all loved her etc which was lovely and obviously made me cry but the ending just leaves everyone satisfied despite their best friend being dead. Can't get better than that. Will definitely watch it again at some point haha . I feel bad she won't be in their lives but I don't mind that, she touched their lives in incredibly positive ways before and after her death so now they can move on knowing she was happy when she left. I'm not sure when the movie comes out to be honest, I think it came out a while back but I haven't seen any subs for it T_T so I'll wait eagerly . I want to see how everyone moved on after the show ended. I feel a bit sad saying "moved on" but I think that was the whole point of her visit, so you know it's okay if they did even if Nanaru and Jintan became a thing.

Menma died at a young age compared to Taiga who's had it rough with her family and who was putting her own friend's happiness infront of her own. Taiga suffered as she was living. Menma died due to slipping off her own fault yet you had so many people feeling guilty for 10 years. In one case, Taiga was suffering for her friends and in the other one, Menma caused suffering for others. Get my drift lmao, let me explain then: you see that /, that separates categories of anime. Still a bit sad that now that she is gone since even if she is reincarnated, the age difference between them would be huge so even if they find each other somehow(she remember names if reincarnated), it won't be the same anymore. I feel that just saying that she wants to rest in peace and how much she loved them then leaving it at that might've been as good or better of an ending. Anyone else thought the same?.
Well aren't they still in 2007? so the notebook is only like 1 month old, according to Touma's clock which they showed A LOT it was like november something, I'm mostly curious about the book than anything else at this point lol. WTF is it about? What is in it? What is the "dream"? Why did Lizuka gave it to Touma except for the fact that it seems she's totally into him and she's musically talented? Which is the one thing that makes me think it's musically related.
While she may not have any family none that we see (though in the first episode you can see her mom went to cheer for her at the concert), Haruki doesn't have any family to speak of either, her mom seems to be MIA from episode 1, all we know is that she exists because she left that note about dinner. But I don't think Haruki is that forward to be honest, I doubt he'll see her being in the hospital as an "opportunity" to do anything but take care of her which I doubt she'll do without Setsuna 99% of the time. But I could be wrong so we'll see next week.
For now I think Setsuna will make an effort to get closer to Touma and finally get her to call her by her first name , we'll see how that works out for her. I really do think she's making an effort to get close to Touma while obviously liking Haruki. Also there's one thing I wanted to ask, you remember when Setsuna and Touma were together in the music room in episode 4 when Setsuna asks her when they will be able to practice together and Touma says the weekend, Setsuna has this odd look for a second after Touma said that.. Am I looking too into it or do you think that look means anything?. They do sort of hint at Setsuna being overly fake sometimes, and there she had that odd look and then replied with a happy looking face suddenly. I don't think Haruki ever implied anything as lovers or otherwise with that, just that he'll stick around in her life no matter what unless she doesn't want him to be there any more, which is nice but again if Setsuna doesn't want him he's free to go :o. I don't think we'll see anything ROMANTIC like kisses or any advancements until after the concert, I think that's how they are handling things, once they open that can of worms is gonna get ugly so I think they are taking their time with that. This theory is helped by the fact that Haruki was saying how that was the last time they were all together and happy, so I think of it as you know no one was doing anything behind anyone's back and no one was declaring love for anyone we were just happy friends lol.

Haruki said that like on the very first episode when they were showing that footage of the concert and then showed them like backstabbing each other over Haruki lol, watch the first episode again is like right at the beginning. Another question I wanted to ask you, but you took forever to reply to this you jerk. Did you see in the last episode when Lizuka was talking to Haruki and asking him "About that thing you made" then he saw Setsuna coming and shut him up? What was that thing he made? he made something? wtf was it? I have no clue what they were talking about, were they referring to the book Lizuka gave Touma? was he finally going to tell him he gave it to her? I'm very curious, that totally would have gone under the radar had I not watched it for like the 4th time.
Also yes I caught the whole thing with the bunnies, I think it means something as well. I'm pretty positive that we're in 2007, the clock says as much in fact I just watched the first few secs of episode 5 because I know they show that clock again it says 2007/11/18 Sun 15:12, so the notebook is from a month ago, maybe he just didn't identify it because he didn't see "October 2007" written on it. Hmm well if you don't remember much from that first scene of the show then you should go take it a look, he says quite a few things in that part that has ramifications throughout the rest of the show at least so far. I'm slightly skeptic (though it's most likely the book) but why would he be embarrassed enough to shut him up so rudely as Setsuna got to school about the book? doesn't seem like the type of thing he would be embarrassed about UNLESS Lizuka took it upon himself to give it to Touma and IT IS something he would be embarrassed about. In which case it should be interesting to see what happens when he finds out about that lol. Also funny how Touma would go through so much trouble for "his dream" when she's in full denial mode about liking him lol. NOT ADDICTED, I can quit whenever I want . The bunnies were too obvious, she had the bunny all by itself with her and then when she was happy with Haruki omg back with the white bunny, kind of funny how him saying her name totally made her night lol. I think that's what made everyone love Menma so much, that she was such a happy little girl who cheered up everyone when they were down and made them even happier when they were in a good mood. Well I'm sure losing your kid is a scarring experience, one so cheerful and good specially I mean you can tell she brought joy into that house.
I don't think any type of reincarnation would have been good for the show or even a little realistic, though I guess that ship sailed when a ghost came back to visit her friends 10 years later <.<. BUT STILL, it would have been odd. I was 100% happy with that ending, it was just a beautiful thing coming to an ending that was perfect. That's why I love rewatching that show, it just feels like such a wonderful story and it ends in such a way that I'm left satisfied after I finish. I love Menma's character so much so I was never in a position to dislike her like I do Taiga haha, I mean who wouldn't love a girl like that? I felt bad the redhead was kind of left out and didn't have Jintan's attention but that's how shit was with Menma around, same for the other girl. Everyone was just drawn to Menma because of the way she was. I really look forward to that movie they made, want to watch it already, seems to have quite a bit of new footage so I would like to see if any new relationships flourished during that time if it's been long enough since Menma disappeared.

I loved Menma's character as well. I couldn't tell why they went all white but I think it was supposed to resemble purity. The way she acted with Jintan and such, so close. I was talking to a friend I convinced to watch the show and he also did NOT notice a bunch of stuff from that first episode, those glimpses of the future they show and what not so you're not alone. That's why I watch the episodes a few times to make sure I GOT EVERYTHING. I was only confused about the toothbrush thing because I thought Setsuna had gone home and somehow took the toothbrush with her lol, that didn't make sense so once I realized she was staying over I was like THAT MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE!. No I'm not addicted, I'm just being meticulous about it lol THERE'S A LOT OF DETAIL!.

I was reading some of the stuff you were yapping about and I'm like who the fuck is Lucia or whatever name I don't remember any more. Toradora got me a couple of times as I mentioned before, I don't mind, the moments when that happened were really deserving haha. Yeah the whole story of AnoHana is like PREPARE TO CRY LIKE A BABY BECAUSE YOU WILL!. A little girl drowned at such a young age and all her friends were destroyed by the accident as so were their friendship, every character that was touched by the tragedy had deep scars so when you saw how they reacted to the mention of Menma it was pretty heart breaking. Specially her mom and just her whole family.
The whole character of Menma has that effect, it will make you cry to see how pure and good she was, I don't think anyone could do anything but love her deeply and lament her death so so much. If she was "flawed" I don't think it would have the same effect, she was really something and it was interesting to see how she contrasted with her friends, they all had these thoughts of jealousy, envy and even hatred towards her or each other but she was just happy and always tried to make everyone happy.
I'm happy with the ending, was one of the best endings I've ever watched rivaled by maybe Code Geass and Gurren Lagann (this is based on how satisfied I was with it not anything else). I mean her coming back brought them all together again which is wonderful and something she's probably extremely happy to do. Can't think of a better effect from her "visit", yeah sure everyone confessed how they all loved her etc which was lovely and obviously made me cry but the ending just leaves everyone satisfied despite their best friend being dead. Can't get better than that. Will definitely watch it again at some point haha . I feel bad she won't be in their lives but I don't mind that, she touched their lives in incredibly positive ways before and after her death so now they can move on knowing she was happy when she left. I'm not sure when the movie comes out to be honest, I think it came out a while back but I haven't seen any subs for it T_T so I'll wait eagerly . I want to see how everyone moved on after the show ended. I feel a bit sad saying "moved on" but I think that was the whole point of her visit, so you know it's okay if they did even if Nanaru and Jintan became a thing.

Haruki said that like on the very first episode when they were showing that footage of the concert and then showed them like backstabbing each other over Haruki lol, watch the first episode again is like right at the beginning. Another question I wanted to ask you, but you took forever to reply to this you jerk. Did you see in the last episode when Lizuka was talking to Haruki and asking him "About that thing you made" then he saw Setsuna coming and shut him up? What was that thing he made? he made something? wtf was it? I have no clue what they were talking about, were they referring to the book Lizuka gave Touma? was he finally going to tell him he gave it to her? I'm very curious, that totally would have gone under the radar had I not watched it for like the 4th time.
Also yes I caught the whole thing with the bunnies, I think it means something as well. I still think her demeanor when Touma told her about the weekend meant something, she has a very odd and serious look on her face and then like YAY OKAY COOL OMG SO HAPPY!. Watch it again, I think you'll find yourself seeing stuff you missed before. I don't think they are hidden necessarily but there are so many other stuff going on that you don't pay attention to the "lesser" stuff or characters.
I'm pretty positive that we're in 2007, the clock says as much in fact I just watched the first few secs of episode 5 because I know they show that clock again it says 2007/11/18 Sun 15:12, so the notebook is from a month ago, maybe he just didn't identify it because he didn't see "October 2007" written on it. I don't think Touma will be in the hospital long enough or at all maybe for anything serious to happen, anyone to feel like OMG I CAN'T LEAVE THOSE 2 ALONE WTF /STAYS!. They finally got the "band" together, really together in episode 5 with that whole skipping class because Touma had a freak out moment, I think it will stay that way until after the performance, maybe they'll have a moment but Touma is in full denial mode about Haruki and Haruki know's she's a bit mean... so we'll have to wait for her to open up a little I think. Watched this. Cried at the start and end :'( Touching story. I thought at the start that he was just ignoring her and she can be seen only to realize later that only Jintan can see her. I liked the development of the story, the pace and all the secret conspiring that were going on even when they were kids. Hearing that Poppo saw her as she was drowning was crushing, same with hearing how it all played out One of the better animes I've watched. I'm happy that the authors had a proper ending for her. Hmm well if you don't remember much from that first scene of the show then you should go take it a look, he says quite a few things in that part that has ramifications throughout the rest of the show at least so far. I'm slightly skeptic (though it's most likely the book) but why would he be embarrassed enough to shut him up so rudely as Setsuna got to school about the book? doesn't seem like the type of thing he would be embarrassed about UNLESS Lizuka took it upon himself to give it to Touma and IT IS something he would be embarrassed about. In which case it should be interesting to see what happens when he finds out about that lol. Also funny how Touma would go through so much trouble for "his dream" when she's in full denial mode about liking him lol. NOT ADDICTED, I can quit whenever I want . Nah just I feel the episodes have all these little details that I miss unless I watch the show a few times, I don't want to miss possible "clues" as to what might happen next. Also you didn't even noticed the clock with the date... so fail, lack of "addiction" totally makes you look bad lol.
The bunnies were too obvious, she had the bunny all by itself with her and then when she was happy with Haruki omg back with the white bunny, kind of funny how him saying her name totally made her night lol. Such a little thing. Okay that makes sense, yeah she seemed to be pensive for a little bit there during that scene. You know at first I didn't know the date of the show either, during WA1 it was like 90's and no one had a phone lol so since this one looked more modern I thought it was like 2012 or something, dunno why they picked 2007. Well if something DOES happen between either of them, I will be very curious to see what that is , but I don't think it would since remember everyone was happy until the performance lol. I think that's what made everyone love Menma so much, that she was such a happy little girl who cheered up everyone when they were down and made them even happier when they were in a good mood. Well I'm sure losing your kid is a scarring experience, one so cheerful and good specially I mean you can tell she brought joy into that house.
I don't think any type of reincarnation would have been good for the show or even a little realistic, though I guess that ship sailed when a ghost came back to visit her friends 10 years later <.<. BUT STILL, it would have been odd. I was 100% happy with that ending, it was just a beautiful thing coming to an ending that was perfect. That's why I love rewatching that show, it just feels like such a wonderful story and it ends in such a way that I'm left satisfied after I finish. I love Menma's character so much so I was never in a position to dislike her like I do Taiga haha, I mean who wouldn't love a girl like that? I felt bad the redhead was kind of left out and didn't have Jintan's attention but that's how shit was with Menma around, same for the other girl. Everyone was just drawn to Menma because of the way she was. I really look forward to that movie they made, want to watch it already, seems to have quite a bit of new footage so I would like to see if any new relationships flourished during that time if it's been long enough since Menma disappeared.

well, I feel like a robot at times. I didn't cry in Toradora even after seeing that Christmas episode several times. Same with all the other times in it. I think this was a first but even then, it wasn't a full on effect. Anohana only got me at the start due to just how heart broken I felt about what happened. I mean, cmon, imagine losing a friend who you loved a lot because they slipped and drowned in the river and it was partially your fault. I would feel so crushed. Heck, I felt crushed just hearing the story and seeing their pain. God, such a depressing thought >< Cried towards the end since I knew that she will depart soon enough and they won't see her again. Since the ending was what I had in mind, I would've been even sadder than Toradora :/
I loved Menma's character as well. I couldn't tell why they went all white but I think it was supposed to resemble purity. The way she acted with Jintan and such, so close. How everyone was torn apart by the incident and never spoke of it again. Getting goosebumps just writing this >.> I liked how as you mentioned, she was the happy kid. Always cheered everyone and never thought about hurting anyone even after she was told they are going after Jintan. I mean, you can't get any purer than that. The fact that they all still love her after all this time just shows what a wonderful person she was.
yes, agree. Reincarnation wasn't a good idea for the show. I'm just thinking if things continued after, even if reincarnated, I doubt she'll remember them and that makes me sad cmon, I love Menma's character as well. Thing with Toradora, even those the ending was a bit underwhelming, I know and pretty confident that they will continue things as they left them after she came back. In Anohana, it can't be continued Menma is gone! That's it! It's over! They will only be able to cherish the memories. It helped them to face their guilt and move on and they all at least got to speak to Menma and tell her how much they loved her but SHE'S GONE FOR GOOD! Somethings never work out like you want them to. Both Anaru and Yukiatsu were left out but that's because Jintan and Menma were so close as kids and loved each other even though they never said it directly. Yes, I look forward to movie as well. I was talking to a friend I convinced to watch the show and he also did NOT notice a bunch of stuff from that first episode, those glimpses of the future they show and what not so you're not alone. That's why I watch the episodes a few times to make sure I GOT EVERYTHING. I was only confused about the toothbrush thing because I thought Setsuna had gone home and somehow took the toothbrush with her lol, that didn't make sense so once I realized she was staying over I was like THAT MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE!. No I'm not addicted, I'm just being meticulous about it lol THERE'S A LOT OF DETAIL!.
I still don't know what all those embarrassing things are tbh lol, I haven't been able to recall or watch the episodes again. Off the top of my head... well maybe when she pulled him off the train that might have been embarrassing to her because it looked very out of character. Besides that nothing else. You're this forums new anime addict, watching like 20 shows at once this season lol. I was reading some of the stuff you were yapping about and I'm like who the fuck is Lucia or whatever name I don't remember any more. Toradora got me a couple of times as I mentioned before, I don't mind, the moments when that happened were really deserving haha. Yeah the whole story of AnoHana is like PREPARE TO CRY LIKE A BABY BECAUSE YOU WILL!. A little girl drowned at such a young age and all her friends were destroyed by the accident as so were their friendship, every character that was touched by the tragedy had deep scars so when you saw how they reacted to the mention of Menma it was pretty heart breaking. Specially her mom and just her whole family.
The whole character of Menma has that effect, it will make you cry to see how pure and good she was, I don't think anyone could do anything but love her deeply and lament her death so so much. If she was "flawed" I don't think it would have the same effect, she was really something and it was interesting to see how she contrasted with her friends, they all had these thoughts of jealousy, envy and even hatred towards her or each other but she was just happy and always tried to make everyone happy.
I'm happy with the ending, was one of the best endings I've ever watched rivaled by maybe Code Geass and Gurren Lagann (this is based on how satisfied I was with it not anything else). I mean her coming back brought them all together again which is wonderful and something she's probably extremely happy to do. Can't think of a better effect from her "visit", yeah sure everyone confessed how they all loved her etc which was lovely and obviously made me cry but the ending just leaves everyone satisfied despite their best friend being dead. Can't get better than that. Will definitely watch it again at some point haha . I feel bad she won't be in their lives but I don't mind that, she touched their lives in incredibly positive ways before and after her death so now they can move on knowing she was happy when she left. I'm not sure when the movie comes out to be honest, I think it came out a while back but I haven't seen any subs for it T_T so I'll wait eagerly . I want to see how everyone moved on after the show ended. I feel a bit sad saying "moved on" but I think that was the whole point of her visit, so you know it's okay if they did even if Nanaru and Jintan became a thing.

Menma died at a young age compared to Taiga who's had it rough with her family and who was putting her own friend's happiness infront of her own. Taiga suffered as she was living. Menma died due to slipping off her own fault yet you had so many people feeling guilty for 10 years. In one case, Taiga was suffering for her friends and in the other one, Menma caused suffering for others. Get my drift lmao, let me explain then: you see that /, that separates categories of anime.
