It's pretty obvious this is not lighthearted "middle school girl shit" from the start.

Yes but this is almost comparable to black rock shooter, which in my opinion isn't grim at all. Except maybe at the very finale it gets more exciting.

Currently watching Darker than Black and Hajime no Ippo, what are people's opinions on those? So far Darker than Black felt like a mix between Mirai Nikki and Zetsuen No Tempest, but not really like either. Mixed feelings about it, but watchable enough. I think I am a sucker for sports anime/manga, I mean I watched soccer ones when much younger, and some of Eyeshield at one stage, but it's just too easy to get pumped and right into watching Hajime No Ippo. Good stuff so far. And I know practically nothing about boxing, so a bit of learning is cool as well.

By the way if you liked it you might want to check out Speed Grapher which I personally enjoyed more. Really simliar, like REALLY similiar. Speed grapher has better opening too - oh I so want to listen that now actually but I don't have sound device at hand right now. Also , my favourite "sports" manga would DEFINITELY be kokou no hito. It's about growing up, not only as in age but as a person. It's an epic story about introvert mountain climber and how he came to be one. It's little romantized but in good taste. Very good balance between romanticism and realism.

I really enjoyed Chinese Electric Batman (season one at least), it has some pretty sweet action.

Darker than Black was okay and watchable as it aired but for some reason I came to really like it a lot more maybe two years later. Now I rewatch it probably once every six or so months just because I like it so much, and not even really for the action scenes. Hei's just kind of calming. Hajime no Ippo is the greatest sports manga of all time. Some people will disagree, some people will say it's not even the greatest boxing manga, but it's my favorite. Sendo is the best (and like I said a few pages back, it's where Naniwa gets his name from.)

Isn't she the one you are hunting ever since? Isn't this situation kinda resembles the one, where Teresa let her live, and payed with her (and others) life? Yeah, you know what? Let's not kill her, because I kinda saw her naked, and that turned me on, so you know, I'm at THAT age, and I think the chemistry is already pretty tense between us, and I wouldn't want to start dating someone all over again, so please let me score this one first, then you can have at her. Thanks, you are still my friend though, love ya'! Are you talking about Raki interfering with Clare killing Priscilla? I haven't seen the anime in a while, but I'm sure Clare couldn't kill Priscilla even if she looked like she was going to. Not only that Isley was there and Clare would not be able to beat Isley either. Isley who is much weaker than Priscilla, but still much stronger than Clare given he was a previous rank 1 warrior making him on par with Riful. Except the anime made it so Priscilla was too mentally unstable to fight Clare properly. As far as fighting what did you expect with Raki's character for him to suddenly develop powers and be relevant in fights when is just a human child? Even him somehow becoming a Claymore wouldn't make that much of a difference given they were going up against Awakened Beings. How would he become a Claymore given only the Organization knows how to make Claymores and it's not like Raki was useless in the series. Besides acting as an anchor for Clare he was fought well against Ophelia when as Clare would have died had he not interfered. The Jean sacrifice criticism is not valid since the only way Jean knew to bring Clare back was through close contact yoki synchronization otherwise Clare would fully Awaken and probably kill everyone. Of course it wouldn't make anyone happy, but Jean choose to save Clare while sacrificing herself as Jean felt she was going to die anyways given her injuries. The real answer is to read the manga. As a fan I think the pace has suffered in recent chapter at least the story has a flow and does address some of the criticisms mainly the Raki one. Raki was never supposed to meet Clare in the North and the ending of that arc is very different. Read chapter 59 to see where the anime diverges though you will miss some very slight foreshadowing in previous chapters about the number 1 and 2. Someone read it! Mom, someone rad it all!! + Show Spoiler + Isley being weaker than Priscilla is something new to me.:o Anyway, you can't justify Raki's actions with Isley, the boy shouldn't have stepped in. Clare had every right to execute Priscilla, and Raki should've been the last one playing the policeman. Friendship and love saving the day would've been the same after killing (or trying to) Priscilla. No, I just expected something to happen with him, like at all, and if they clearly couldn't advance him emotianally as a human being (again, think about Pieta, where he suddenly went crybaby mode, even though Clare could've died or awakened right there), at least give him some power, or the very least some valuable knowledge. He did not do a single thing since he and Clare got separated, but the funniest scene is still his training with Isley. I can understand that the manga could expand on that, but if they know they won't make that scene relevant at all in the anime, then maybe do something different. At the end, he was a terrible friend, a terrible fighter, and didn't bring anything to the table, aside from makin people facepalm. They could've at least make him fall in love with Priscilla (so instead of the training scenes we'd get some with the two of them bonding), so I could understand why he interrupted Clare, and why did he have to deny her from that righteous revenge. And let's say Clare would've turn into an awakened being who can't be changed back after the execution. Then Raki should put his lame ass sword to use and finish Priscilla himself instead - now that I think about it, that would've been the best possible thing to happen. Clare got her revenge, stays human, but now forced an innocent human being to do such a terrible thing to save her life, while Raki finally shows some balls, saves her friend, but his morals get fucked up, and he just doesn't know anymore what is right wrong - Isley could easily toy with him, for instance. An act that deepens and poisons their friendship at the same time. (And it still doesn't matter if Isley would've interrupted the killing blow, true colours were already showed by the intentions) I wasn't even sure why Jean didn't get treated, howewer my concern was about her approach to her saviour: throwing away her life for Clare long before that sacrifice, so she can honor Clare? I get where the writers are coming from, but why couldn't just make her a loyal to death companion who doesn't degrade herself with stating 4 times in every episode that her existence is purely to die for Clare when it's needed. Soul Eater did a much better job at creating an alternate story. It was enjoyable, you didn't feel like certain story elements were for nothing (well, maybe BREW, but at least they tried), and the ending is still just simply controversial - I'm certain it wasn't hated by everyone. Oooh, and forgot to mention: the last song played at the end of the anime was greaaaat, it's sad they ruined it with that hippy crap.
