Someone got me to download the Clannad Visual novel aswell, so I plan to try and translate my way through that eventually, I also started watching Kaichou wa Maid-sama, it's not all that bad. Patches for full voice and unvoiced versions: http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=ClannadIf you like the Kaichou anime, read the manga. It's definitely worth your time. On April 26 2010 23:56 Shauni wrote: And by the way, are eclipse gg and bss dead now? It might be difficult subbing all the shows of this season if there's no decent groups left now. I guess I should just start watching more RAWs to learn... gg disbanded - the translators have gone to other groups As far as I know, eclipse is still alive. They've been releasing super slow recently, but I don't know what's up with that. BSS is still running. They lost their Durarara translator, but have apparently found a new one. SZS doesn't count. looool + Show Spoiler [Time for more LB] +Edit: Can anybody comment on the quality of subs from FFFpeeps? They're pretty consistently fast, but I haven't downloaded anything of theirs yet. gg is still around as far as I know, they're releasing subs for the this seasons shows, maybe another group of people, but definitely still around. Stuff with the gg tag was released up until April. This was done by the same team, but without the site because the owner of the site decided to leave or something. Since this person was essentially the one who organized everything, the group kinda just fell apart and joined other groups. That was what I heard, at least. I haven't seen gg subs for this season's shows on tokyotosho. You sure they're doing this season's stuff? + Show Spoiler [LB] +I have to pick two? That's what, fifteen combinations? Sheesh. ![[image loading]](http://img441.imageshack.us/img441/7725/choicesj.jpg)
Actually you're right, I haven't been back to their site in a long time since dura 6.

gg is dead.
Eclipse will finish FMA; the translator isn't doing the other shows, though. If they don't find a new translator they are dead.
BSS will finish Durarara!!. It isn't a new translator, though, dunno where you heard that. Future unknown.

yaaaaaaaaaaaaay
don't have to look for other subbers :D
edit: aers in your news post it looked like you found a new translator

Eclipse is actually dead? D: Guess I'll need to try FFFpeeps for Kaichou after all.

Not so much miscommunication as me saying what I know and not what we're telling everyone.
......or whatever.
Eclipse isn't dead yet - they just can't sub without a translator.
Basically what happened is Eclipse's sole translator these days is leaving the internet to focus on RL; he's also the same guy translating Drrr!! for BSS. FMA/Drrr!! are getting finished, probably, but the rest is completely dependent on finding a translator.
BSS's main translator is still around and will probably be doing a summer show.

Huh.
Is this amount of translator hunting unusual? Basically I have no idea how fansub groups work/interact -- I just download the stuff. Is there generally a shortage of translators/is this an unusual shortage of translators?
I wonder if there's a history of fansubbing floating around on the internet somewhere...

I wonder if there's a history of fansubbing floating around on the internet somewhere... edit - apparently yes O.o Well, although there are probably a bunch of people who know enough Japanese to translate, I'd imagine that most of them aren't really ready to join a group simply because of the time and effort involved. You're basically giving up hours of your spare time once a week for several months for the benefit of strangers for practically nothing in return. And this is why the really dedicated translators (and the rest of the fansubbing team) are amazing people.
That said, a lot of the better groups do seem to have pretty dedicated translators. Most of the recruitment posts I see are usually for smaller groups.

Ohhhhhh just finished reading the manga Sanctuary in one sitting. That was some awesome shit :D

Alright so I'm a long time anime fan, trying to be more hardcore and hip and such.
I'm trying to watch a lot of the big hit titles, get them out of the way (excluding shounen's ofc) like elfen lied, FLCL, Gurren Lagann, death note etc.
The thing is there are so FUCKING many anime out there, I dont know where to start @_@
My only reference is video games. Are anime constantly being developed and put out like video games? and some turn out good, some bad, some surprisingly good, and others dissapointments?
I'm lost here T_T need direction.

I'd recommend just trying a bunch of popular shows and seeing what you like.
After that, you can ask for more specific recommendations (I liked Elfen lied but disliked Air... etc), and go from there. Try to get a feel for a bunch of different genres.
|
There's probably an inverse relationship between being a hardcore anime fan and being hip, lol.
Or, unless you're talking about blending in with the anime crowd, who are divided into many types.

Aask Shauni for anime recs. He has lots of 'hardcore' animes loool

Should watch Ouran High School Host Club, Berserk, Higashi No Eden, Akagi, Baccano!, Ghost in the Shell (ALL OF IT), Clannad, and Minami-ke
I'd subtract Higashi No Eden and add: Haruhi (absolute must watch) Haibane renmei (for something more intellectual, I dunno) Either Code Geass, FMP or TTGL just to include some robots
edit - lol list edit
Well, if I was just making an intro list I'd do something like:
Death Note (might as well) Haruhi Kanon/Clannad Mushi-shi/Haibane Renmei Some slice of life-y thing Code Geass/FMP/TTGL (yes, I know those shows are very different) Elfen Lied/Claymore/Berserk Maybe GITS
|
he wants to be hardcore
only one out of those that is remotely close to 'hardcore' is like ..
none of them ROFL
|
Finally got around to watching Katanagatari. + Show Spoiler + Overall I have to say I like it. Was expecting a bit more excitement / action from battles but at least Togame doesn't disappoint. Just saw ep 4. They show us animations of their fight in episode 3 but not the actual fight?! I'd feel ripped off if nee-chan weren't full of rape and a kind of creepy atmosphere. lol holy shit wtf nee-chan

Higashi No Eden is the single best anime I have ever seen. Why would you pull that from someones list?

stop laughing at me >_< think you're so cool...

Yeah, but being hardcore means like.. watching all of them. He wants to cherry-pick the good ones.
You should pull up an anime ranking list and go through it. Maybe ask us which to omit and stuff.
