Preferably in the same vein as steins and magica. SOA is really just a love letter to korean mmos, and all of the other ones I recently watched were alright, but didn't blow me away. But yeah, suggestions would be welcomed! Ga-Rei: Zero is the first anime that comes to mind. It has a similar feel to Madoka Magica and has the whole schoolgirls fighting supernatural monsters thing going for it. I loved both of them.

But yeah, suggestions would be welcomed! Since you dislike the STD show I will give you some honest recommendations. For the record though, we spent a lot of time on that chart at the top of the thread and you should look at it. If you liked Madoka you will probably like Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, if you liked Steins Gate you'll like Mnemosyne, if you like Gantz I'm sure you're in as much pain about the last 100 manga chapters as the rest of us, if you like Berserk try reading Claymore, and if you like Hellsing I recommend Black Lagoon or Hokuto no Ken. I also recommend you watch Bacanno!, in my opinion it's the best anime that can be recommended to anyone in the last 10 years. You can check out my MAL if you just want to poke around series, I have up to T but I've been slightly motivated to finish it in the last few days. http://myanimelist.net/animelist/KaalVeiten

They are certainly of the same genre and they both try something different from the norm, but while Nanoha goes more in the vein of the action shounen (which would make it more of a subversion), Madoka tries to be a deconstruction of it's genre, much like Legendary Girl Utena or Neon Genesis Evangelion. I would much rather recommend those two shows on that basis.

Seeing as a number of you have brought up Baccano, I will start with that first, whilst having a look at the other things that some of you have suggested, and which I don't immediately recognize. I personally like Durarara more then Baccano, but it's by the same people and it comes first so it's good to start with.

Might be because it doesn't jump as much in time, but I'm not certain. Mnemosyne is similar to Steins;Gate? I think I have to watch it now then. But! I'm currently watching Texhnolyze. I'm only at episode 5 so that much hasn't happened yet, but so far I'm very very interested in what's going to happen. So that comes first.

DRRR is just linear from the novel Mnemosyne first few ep really good, ending is kinda WTF The biggest selling point is Noto Mamiko making all sorts of weird sounds (also Kugimiya, to a lesser extend)

It baffles me, that you would be surprised by anyone recommending it, regardless of your personal taste. (The same goes for Utena, btw.)

Utena is an amazing anime, a true classic, but Evangelion is overhyped 2deep4u garbage.
