If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

If anything, a very minor portion of discussion in this thread based around anime.

Translations for any VN take forever. Best to put it out of your memory entirely, then one day it will be translated, and then you can go "Oh yeah, I wanted to read that", and read it.

I finally got around to reading Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, no spoilers please but I haven't seen the anime and it's really surprising how the first chapter that took me like 10 hours to finish somehow was fit into 4 anime episodes... How are they supposed to be able to convey the suspense feel? Hmhm ... Either way, after 2 and a half chapters or so I'm utterly confused and don't understand anything, working as intended I'm guessing ...

While I haven't read Higurashi myself, its one of my friend's favorite VNs. According to him, the anime sucks compared to the VN. And if the Higurashi anime is anything similar to the Umineko anime, then I can understand why lol

y u hatin? Horizon got cool fights and boobs and robots. I guess character development would be nice, but u cant really xpect somthin like that for a anime liek horizon. its liek expeting plot in ikkitousen, u just dont do that and try to enjoy the ride.

I have only watched the anime for both Higurashi and umineko, but no, higurashi is not anything like Umineko IMO. Umineko was pretty terrible (liked it at the start but later on... yeah), but I really liked Higurashi.

Also, I'm starting to get hyped for Little Busters. I know I shouldn't be, and that being hyped might make this a lot more painful than it could be... but I can't help it

Please don't say things like "Umineko is terrible" unless you have read it, or preface it with "I'm only talking about the anime". Its like talking about Tsukihime, except talking about the Tsukihime anime. Everyone knows the anime doesn't actually exist.

Given that this is the ANIME discussion thread you should be assuming everyone is talking about the anime unless otherwise stated, not the other way around.

Also Ikkitousen was deep and full of PLOT. How dare anyone say otherwise!

Except Umineko is a visual novel, and is most commonly known as a visual novel. Thus, if someone starts talking about Umineko, I'm gonna think "visual novel". If people in this thread start talking about Tsukihime, or FSN, do you think they are going to be talking about the shitty anime adaptations?.

It's also an anime, and is most commonly known as an anime. Oh wait, that doesn't make sense either.

It's cool if you think of it as a visual novel, and if some of the people you talk do to, but in the ADT, it should be assumed everything everyone is talking about is an anime unless otherwise stated. Unless we're changing the title to "japanese culture thread" or whatever you guys were saying it's turned into earlier in the thread, that's really the only way the makes sense.

I've seen enough hate from you guys on the FSN anime that I just assume by now any praise towards it is going to the VN lol. But had I NOT seen the past conversations, I'd be assuming you mean the anime.

This thread has been about anime, manga, VNs, LNs, and Japanese video games for close to 2 years now, where have you been?lol Anyway this is a dumb argument, so I'm dropping it wiht this post. I don't mean to escalate this further.

That really doesn't change anything. It's still called ADT, and a good portion of discussion is based around anime, current and old. You can't just say people need to preface things by specifying it's an anime when it should be assumed by default that it's an anime given the thread. Not everyone has read the whole thread or even portions of it before posting, so they may have no idea what it has evolved into.

Wasn't really much of an argument but alright.

That's the way things work in the anime subculture, some things are typically thought of first. Like if you talk about Muvluv or FSn people assume it to be the VN, or if you talk about FSS or Denyuuden people assume it first to be a novel. It's called the ADT but it's more like the general Anime/Manga/LN/VN Otaku thread. That's the way it's been since it's inception, you really don't need to argue semantics. If you're new to the scene just specify or ask people to specify what they're talking about, eventually you'll just know.

Usually more of "why this anime adaptation sucks" and the LN/VN/Game was better in every way possible.

I know it's more of a general thread, I just didn't think it was right that Sent was trying to tell Maxie what to do, especially when Maxie's post was worded in such a way that made Sent's point moot to begin with. Looking back Sent may have been kidding, but it came off as really snobbish when I first read it. But yeah, no real point in saying much more on the topic.

The real question is why are people watching the shitty Umineko anime rather than reading the godly Umineko VN?

Shinsekai yori the adaptation feels 'forced'.

Might want to check out the manga if you liked the first episode. At least I'm doing that to get a headstart. o/

That's probably why I don't watch as much anime as before. I just read the material now.

Not sure if I want to watch Tonari no ZNFKaibutsu-kun since I've already read manga. And then I watch Zetsuen no Tempest despite reading it and knowing it's far worse than Tonari just cause Nana who isn't even main @_@ At least her character is Misaki-esque, but a lot less screen time.

I kind of regret complaining about the source for Binbougami so much, because it makes it hard for me to find harsh enough vocabulary to talk about zetsuen no tempest.

Also it's the anime discussion thread but it's long been known to be more like The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture.

Speaking of Genshiken, has anyone been following the new manga? It's kinda lacking the charm the original had I think.
When SC2 came for BW, I cried. Now LoL/Dota2 comes for SC2, and I laugh. \o/

Been reading it, it's fine. What exactly do you mean by lacking the same charm?

Edit: + Show Spoiler [Genshiken Niidaime ch. 80] +
I would also like to mention that the Hato crush/obsession development was handled quite well, and that chapter 79-80 were excellent.

Idunno, I think the first series ended perfectly because I don't see where else they can go with the story. I mean, more otaku shenanigans? The relationships are pretty adorable as seen in the last few stories but I can't see how the writer can go without being repetitive since they've done all the otaku stuff already. Introduce a densha otaku or something?

The otaku stuff is amusing, but really, I'm personally more interested in character interaction and how the relationships are developed. And overall, I'm pretty happy with how that's been handled. There's a lot of new characters, and though we have a pretty good idea of how they mesh at this point, there's still things which could be explored.

And it's not like Kio's going to run out of jokes anytime soon.
