I have only watched the anime for both Higurashi and umineko, but no, higurashi is not anything like Umineko IMO. Umineko was pretty terrible (liked it at the start but later on... yeah), but I really liked Higurashi. Also, I'm starting to get hyped for Little Busters. I know I shouldn't be, and that being hyped might make this a lot more painful than it could be... but I can't help it  | ||

Some are interesting (usually involving Kimi), some are cut down and not as satisfying as it should (Futayo vs both Tachibana), and one good one (Katsuno!) | ||
