I like it, but then again I have read MLA. Don't really know if it's worth watching if you haven't read MLA, probably not.
Tabbris read MLA too.
As far as TE goes, the first 2 episodes were good, and then things were meh for like 4 episodes or something, and then they went to Russia and things got better again. Visually, it is still full of QUALITY and budget issues, so that hasn't changed.
Then he should watch it... it's like you said, there was a while where it was "meh" but since we arrived to Russia, everything has been good. And yeah, low budget is noticeable but I don't think it's *that* bad. TSF:s look fine, people look fine... BETA look like... BETA.
I mostly liked MLA for the story/ Character development. I really dont much care for mechs. And I think as sent pointed out its more like Top guns lol. Ill go try it again...
Just finished watching Pandora Hearts. Whoever said that the 3 episodes must be wiped out of my mind has spoken the truth! How badly can an anime turn on such short notice????
Overall, I felt the anime was strong throughout the first 20-21 episodes. Their quests were very interesting, but it felt like too many plots were happening at the same time and we didn't get to see any conclusion
That strange scene at the end, could it suggests that it is the tomb of Alice + OZ or either? Since the timeline has been affected by the Abyss and that the Abyss can affect them again, could suggest that at the end of their journey, one buries the other and put the pocketwatch there...
EDIT : May have found an answer on the internet. Still curious to hear your thoughts. I've ordered a bunch of manga from Pandora Hearts. So I guess I'll be able to follow the story. I grew interested in it!

To whoever recommended Trinity Blood, you're cool. I'm supremely pissed at how they decided to end it, but it's great, and a good intro if you decide to go into the manga/light novels.
Trinity Blood is a TERRIBLE one to go into light novel... for totally unfortunate reason.

I could've sworn I used those exact same words in my post about it, but seems like I thought better of it lol. Fortunately I just let em pile up and start like 5-6 behind where I left off.
I realize I'm, like, a goddamn year late, but holy shit Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Wowowowowowowowow. First anime I've watched in years, and I did it all in one night. I don't know if my emotions will recover anytime soon (T_T so sad), but it was worth it.
Question: Is it worth seeking out all the shit they've added on to the franchise since the anime? Or is it all kinda disposable?
They haven't really added much in terms of anime stuff, as far as I know. There aren't any OVAs and such.
You have two movies coming out within a month, even airing with subtitles in select theaters in the US. The movies are more or less recaps (milking) of the show and probably mostly disposable, especially since the show isn't old enough like say, Nanoha, where a complete makeover makes them pretty awesome. A third movie coming out later is supposedly original content though.
I live in the middle of nowhere, so I can't afford a week to go and see them Denver would be pushing it, but afaik, it isn't showing there.
Would I buy the movies? Maybe, I'll obviously watch them fansubbed first.

Do yourself a favour and read the manga. Like someone said its a bit of a clusterfuck with all the connections plot twists etc. I am enjoying it though. But the anime cut off with twenty unsolved questions and plotlines and finished it in three episodes... ofc its not gonna be good. As i said start the manga at chap 33 or so.

I just wish they remade Fate Stay Night the same way they did Fate Zero. Zero was so much better.

One of the things I liked most about Madoka was its vicious deconstruction (and subsequent reconstruction) of established anime tropes. (the multiple references to Goethe's Faust helped, too) Does Fate Zero have similar themes? I had been planning to work my way through similar stuff that I'd missed (so, revolutionary girl utena, lain...), but I'm open to suggestions.

Wouldent say a deconstruction of of anime tropes. Its more of a deconstruction and reconstruction of what it means to be a hero ^^. Its also a tragic ^^. If you liked Madoka I pretty certain you'll will like fate zero
Here is the best fanmade trailer I could find that gives you a feel for it.

Umm, I wouldn't say it's a deconstruction like madoka was, but it's not typical nor cliche. It's a pretty ruthless show all in all, and the ending is about as climactic as I've seen out of any show or movie. I can only imagine watching it without watching the sequel which came before it. It really drives a point home, and all the characters have such great, memorable personalities and ideals that you feel attached to all of them.
