Think it's 25 episodes or something like that, not the most reliable source since it was someone in the MAL thread on the director change that said it.
Like you, I'm not very interested in seeing the main story animated either, because:
A: I've already read it anyway

I've reached the point where my curiosity definitely won't let me put MLA on hold. Because I have horrible time management I'm gonna stay off IRC this week to maybe be less distracted. For DRTL, I'll submit the lineup and show up next Sunday, but I won't be able to practice or play so I'm leaving it up to you guys to get in the practice you need.

The main trilogy seems impossible to animate. The pacing is basically guaranteed to be shit. But then again, Little Busters is getting an anime, and it's equally impossible to animate...
The CG in MLTE varies. As long as the TSFs are moving quickly it's fine, but that one walking scene in ep 3 was quite jarring. I think there was a walking scene in ep 1 which was equally bad.
