I'm sure there are a lot of smaller things that may make it worth reading the manga from the start but I'm at chapter 48 at the moment and I just want to read the rest of it now. So no backtracking for me, full speed ahead towards awesomeness. EVOL takes place 12000 years after the first series. If you haven't seen EVOL yet, you don't have to unless you have a lot of time on your hands to 1. find somewhere to download the first season, and 2. spend the time to watch all 26 episodes of it. If you have time, then by all means go and watch the prequel before EVOL. There are some references to the first series, but nothing big until the last few episodes of EVOL. None of it requires you to have watched the first one. You'll just get more enjoyment out of the references, whereas those that didn't, won't think anything of it. | ||

The connection is there, but due to the time frame between them, the events of the first series are more or less treated as a legend/myth, with more direct connections surfacing later. Both go in really different directions, so its not like one is a replacement for the other. I say that if you liked the original, and just recently watched it, take a break for a while, and then watch Brotherhood in like half a year or something. Treat them independently and form your own conclusion. | ||
