No, the crab was not hard to understand, i wouldve liked more focus on the mysteries, like in mononoke for example which made me think more (to understand the mystery). iirc atleast one of them was left pretty open in mononoke but thats beside my original point. Main turnoff were the discussions between some of the characters. ugh.

Overall it just felt really slow, especially during parts where I had to pause to read those insert card things that pop up with alot of text. Maybe it was just an illusion of being slow, getting back to the language thing, but it certainly felt that way to me. I'm also not a fan of Shaft's art style. However, I do like fanservice. So all of this combines into a show that just leaves me with a bored, uninterested feeling. I didn't even hate Bakemonogatari, I ended up giving the show a 6, which is basically "On the 'meh' end of average" to me. Ecael says the Crab taking away the weight wasn't an accident. I think. + Show Spoiler + The god took it away because hes "hasty" and misunderstood what she really wanted. The word "omoi", or something like that, has a double meaning.

I was feeling kind of lazy but I guess I don't have anything better to do while eating so I'll get to that zz Gonna edit this post. I'd respond to some of the points but whatever, not worth bothering. So all I am going to do is factcheck. On January 17 2012 09:50 Necrophantasia wrote: For example, how did most people understand what happened in hitagi crab? Most people think as such: + Show Spoiler + Hitagi meets crab while she is depressed, her weight is taken. She gets it back by beating up said crab. But is that what really happened? + Show Spoiler + Why was she begging? The crab didn't take her weight. At least not intentionally. The crab was a god, it's simply there and at the same time not there. The desire for Senjougahara to put her motions somewhere led to her meeting the crab. The crab thought it was doing her a favor. But the gods are a careless bunch. To them, humans are like ants, they care not for "minor" differences between people like gender, personality, etc. The crab in its carelessness took her "omoi" which is a homonym for both thoughts/feelings and weight. That's why she was begging for the god to give her back her memories. You are skipping way too many steps here. Start from the beginning. We learn these things about Gahara-san in time order. Firstly, she has essentially no weight. It was told to us that she met a crab at some point, then her weight was gone. Then we learned about her family situation - Consultant dad, used to be rich, money gone when mother got into some kind of a cult due to daughter's condition. Eventual divorce and Gahara-san is in her present situation, weightless and in shitty apartment w/ dad. + Show Spoiler [Bakemonogatari, Hitagi Crab] + This essentially worked out to be a narrative trick. While Oshino suggested that things are no as simple as they look, the conclusion that we can reach from the information is that the following happened chronologically: meet crab, lose weight, mom get into cult because of strange condition. Shit breaks loose, bankruptcy, present situation. This rapidly changed when Oshino offered Gahara-san the opportunity to not go through with the ceremonies and simple beat up the crab for her and get her weight back. Gahara-san, even while knowing that she will get back her weight by just having Oshino kill the crab, choose the alternative and went through with an apparently unnecessary ceremony. Why? Missing information is given to the audience and we are given the proper chronology. Gahara-san is sick during childhood, mother gets into cult because of that sickness, Gahara-san recovers from sickness, mother still in cult. Cult member of high authority attempt rape w/ mother's consent, shit breaks loose and compensation paid, Gahara-san meets crab, more things happen that are nise spoilers and such, divorce, current situation. Essentially, everything up to this point is a narrative trick meant to mislead. To tie in a bit into the point about language and conversation, the reader is kept somewhat suspicious because of Gahara-san and Oshino's remarks and the implications of some of the puns. This trick is pretty much the extent of any 'mystery' element of the monogatari series (well some go further). At any case, the monogatari series has much of its twist based on this factor. Without properly recognizing that these little puns and snide remarks point to a different scenario than what's originally presented, the actual twist is kind of cheapened because you were simply presented a piece of missing information that was withheld. A narrative twist is only good in the sense that you feel like you should have seen it coming looking back at the writing. To go back about the details of the crab, the part about how gods treat all humans the same is only shown at the end with Araragi, what with Gahara-san regaining memories but Araragi got the weight. The part about weight = omoi = thoughts is simply a pun that points at the true nature of the relationship between the crab and Gahara-san. + Show Spoiler [Bakemonogatari, Hitagi Crab] + This is one of the things that should have tipped off the audience that something is amiss, what with Oshino talking about prices and compensation. The theme that bake has with the victim and the predator is exemplified here. The crab took the memories that Gahara-san didn't wish to have, the weight was taken kind of as an afterthought (as it is the 'same' thing), or in a way, taken as compensation for relieving her of that pain. Thus the necessity for her to beg to kind of go back on the deal that she has going with the crab rather than simply having Oshino beat the crab up. In that sense, the crab taking the weight is completely intentional. About the only thing unintentional here would be the thoughts of the mortals that they'd get something for nothing. I'll stop here for now and see IRC responses later and edit in more things as I see necessary. As to how many people got that? I bet most people got the plot. As to why the original is good because of how things worked? That's a different question. On a plot level this is very simple, the most interesting aspect is not the plot, but the way the narrative and the presentation of information goes.

+ Show Spoiler + It was pretty entertaining, started with a neat idea and decent characters, kept me wanting to turn the page. There were some bumpy spots where the plot just decided to jump for no apparent reason (Yuno and him run away and she kidnaps him basically for the sole reason of making the side characters have more of a focus), but for the most part it was very enthralling and fun. The issue I had with it came with the last ~15 chapters where it stopped all pretense of having a psychological thriller tone and turned into an action series for some reason. Followed by the most Gainax ending of "we ain't gotta explain shit, it's magic" ending I've ever seen in my life. Like, the plot made sense, but I felt like I was reading an entirely different series by the end. Overall, fun, worth a read. Would recommend.

+ Show Spoiler + The shop keeper said that no one else is inside the shop, but when he went down stairs, he saw the chick. So, is she a ghost or not? It seems the classmate are trying to hide and tell him something important. Pretty interesting imo but I get a feeling that it might get boring as we dwell deeper in the story.

And after skimming through Daily Lives of High School Boys, looks like I have another to add to the list. It looks quite hilarious. If I add High School Boys, then I think my list will be about 6 animes long (excluding Mirai Nikki, GC, and Chihayafuru) This season turned out to be quite decent. Edit: Just finished it, very funny indeed. Must watch to anyone who enjoys gags. Definitely added to my list. 1) Nisemonogatari 2) Amagami SS+ 3) Chihayafuru (fall season) 4) Guilty Crown (fall season) 5) Rinne Lagrange 6) Ano Natsu 7) Daily Lives of High School Boys 8) Papa Iukoto 9) Mirai Nikki (fall season) 10) High School DxD

I was seriously on the verge of dropping this show cause it just reeked of cliche and tsundere-ness. But glad I held out and was surprised at the end. Shit just got real haha.

Another + Show Spoiler + This show really looks promising so far. The only thing i dislike to some extent is the animation style. The art in the manga seems ALOT better but they somehow went with a different style in the anime :S Brave 10 + Show Spoiler + Not that impressed but watchable so far. Seems like a mix from Hakuouki and Basilisk. Chihayafuru + Show Spoiler + These type of shows are just not my thing but something is different with this one that keeps me really interested and im impressed so far. Guilty Crown + Show Spoiler + Hmm what can I say about this other than preety meh. Overall seems really bad but still watchable.Probably deserved a drop but I will finish it no matter how terrible it becomes. OK I'm gonna say it again that this show hit the rock bottom and cant get any worse from now on and it can go up from now ![]() Last Exile: Ginyoku no Fam + Show Spoiler + I didnt even enjoy the first season and this seems worse. Maybe i will drop it if i get bored. Mirai Nikki + Show Spoiler + I read the manga long time ago and I forgot some of the events so its nice to get reminded. Only thing i dislike its the stupid censorship like its some kind of hentai porn. Mouretsu Pirates + Show Spoiler + I preety much expected nothing from this show and I got nothing. Wanted to see if it will surprze me but it didnt. 99% drop on 3rd episode. Nisemonogatari + Show Spoiler + Decent so far. Watched the prequel long time ago and I dont remember everything that happened but it got the same feel minus the supernatural so far and alot more heavy on fanservice. I hope it does get better because im not satisfied with pure fanceservice only. Persona 4 + Show Spoiler + Nothing special here. Never played the game but its kinda funny I guess. Thermae Romae + Show Spoiler + Really unique concept for a comedy. Its Funny with wtf animation... but I think it works well for this type of show.
