It goes with my earlier logic on Mecha 101 see:
Regular Mobile Suit = non-extra flaps/wings. aka: IS default settings
Gundam = extra flaps/wings. aka: IS first shift
When a IS gets piloted for the first time by its owner, its called a "Mobile Suit". Then when it goes through the "first shift" its then called a Gundam.

IS are IS, not Mobile Suits. IS is what the power armor in the show are actually called. Mobile Suits are what robots in Mobile Suit Gundam shows are called. I can't tell if you are trolling me or not.
