If you liked DBZ you should check out One Piece.
If you watched Gundam Wing when you were a kid, you'll find that the series didn't age well and that it's actually pretty bad. But you'll probably want to check out stuff like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or Gundam SEED. Black Lagoon is good, but there's only guns - no Gundams. Obviously inferior. You might also like Baccano, which has a great deal of comedy in addition to guns, magic, trains, and killing people who don't die when they are killed.

And let's admit it it's not nearly train wreck as SD ever was. Most of the heroines in YnS made much more sense than the 2 heroines in SD

Sora route was great, I really didn't like Nao route, but the first 2 sisters route was pretty good. i did feel a bit disappointed that they went all lazy on the maid route and the kaichou route(kaichou route was completely omitted) and madi route was just pretty much joked upon, meh....

Hey. I'm looking for a recommendation but it's not for any special genre, more a type of character. I've watched quite a few series (although I'm not going to even consider the possibility I've watched many enough not to ask) without finding any similar.
The character I'm looking for is something similar to L from Death Note. The most attractive traits are his extreme ability to reason (intelligence) and eccentric behaviour. I greatly appreciate any recommendation meeting these criteria .

can't imagine someone starting anime with One Piece lol. It was one of my first too but that was back when there was "only" like 200 eps. Kinda sad though cause everytime I recommend it, I get the response of it being too long.
As for moderation, I don't mind people getting warned/banned for trolling with SD but that should also go for the people who ignore the banner at the top and the kids that come in here just to say "hey guys, death note/code geass/*insert anime title here* was the best anime of all time" and never post again. Not sure you are looking for the plotting type or the counter plotting type. There are alot of similar characters but some don't play as near important as a role. What's the name of that guy from Mirai Nikki again'? the one that's always featured in Mirai Nikki themed BL doujins. (not the Main Protagonist, The detective kid)

The character I'm looking for is something similar to L from Death Note. The most attractive traits are his extreme ability to reason (intelligence) and eccentric behaviour. I greatly appreciate any recommendation meeting these criteria . Not sure you are looking for the plotting type or the counter plotting type. There are alot of similar characters but some don't play as near important as a role. What's the name of that guy from Mirai Nikki again'? the one that's always featured in Mirai Nikki themed BL doujins.

Yeah, I should've mentioned to what extent I want the character to actually appear in the show, I guess.
I would prefer as much as possible. I realize finding a similar character being as important as L (who basically stole the show from Light, imo) is hard. I am perfectly comfortable and OK with the character playing a bit less of a role, but as mentioned, I prefer as much as possible.

Honestly I can't think of alot of characters like L.

There's the BL guy from Mirai Nikki, whose name I just have a real hard time recalling right now. The only thing I remember is that he's really calculating and have a lot of BL moments with Yukiteru
