Been reading the manga, first few chapters. Should I just do the anime instead?

Should I just do the anime instead? The original anime was incredibly well done; I definitely recommend watching it. As far as shounen go, it's one of the best in my opinion. The art might need getting used to considering how old it is and you may be tempted to watch the re-make, but I don't particularly like the re-make so far. Just watch the old version and I doubt you'll be disappointed. You can start reading the manga where the anime ends after that. Ruuji is getting annoying. too ignorant and naive. hope he starts to learn how harsh reality can be.

Because of this, I find myself constantly blown away by the sheer amazingness that this anime has to offer. I teared up a little during this episode, it really hit home, it was so well done. The way they touch base with all the characters you cant but help feel sympathetic for all of them. Very few animes Ive watched were able to capitalize on that. I am certainly happy that this anime will have a full season. What I am praying for is that it wont end up like Hanasaku Iroha: start off strong the first half, then have the gap filled with filler/background characters, then finish off a bit lackluster. Heres for hoping... + Show Spoiler + I actually connected because of how they portrayed going to nationals. Kind of reminds me of the times in high school when our team would go to a national tournament....not in Karuta of course. ![]() + Show Spoiler + GO ZNF! Rewrite a Chihayafuru fanfict with Brood War over Karuta, I eagerly await. I would do it, but I am not as knowledgeable as you though. So I leave such a task to you lol. If I did write it, who should be on my team? Maybe I'll write it about how TLADT forms a team and we become a group of inseparable friends and end up winning....some team tournament in BW or something. I'd read that =D

EDIT - Now that I think about it, what he is capable of there is actually pretty important both as something that fleshes out his character and a plot device, just leaving that out could lead to a lot of annoying omissions later on. Insert some Sunrise hate here I guess.

IDK how far you are in, but how could you have not noticed that? She was tsun from the beginning but never any dere until now (I'm at 24 now but I didn't write that immediately after I noticed it so probably somewhere around ep15). Unless she showed it in the first few eps which I skipped because I saw them a few months ago and dropped it and only picked it up again now. Either way, since this isn't a harem or romance which generally butcher the archetype, I wouldn't label characters who hate on the MC all the time a tsundere unless they clearly show a significant number of dere moments, which only starts around ep15. I don't even think there was any blushing until like ep20, which is the most overused yet almost necessary indicator of a tsundere to begin with. Note that blushing while yelling doesn't count; there's a big difference between that and blushing prior to yelling that continues throughout the yelling. In retrospect, it's easy to say she was from the beginning because all her nagging at the start is now explained. Although now I'm curious whether she did display some dere when they first met which would explain everything since my qualifications for a tsundere still stand. In that case, I would've labeled her as a potential tsundere which doesn't really get confirmation for awhile.

I don't remember, 10 episodes or so. But even I remember some "dere" moments. 100% Tsundere from the start. That's why I said "since this isn't a harem or romance" because then you'd be right. The only reason they get labeled tsundere is because it's a romance so they end up as the worst written tsundere possible due to being carbon copies of each other and the writers not giving a damn because everyone will accept it anyway. If you took these characters, subtracted all the blushing (which is the only dere thing they do nowadays) and put them into a more serious genre then they would just be characters who complain and hate on a person all the time, which is basically Mii for the first 15 eps. If you want to use the tsundere standard that exists for the harem or romance genre for everything else, then I'll concede she's tsundere from the start by those standards. However, when a show is not about romance, the characters meant to be tsundere are almost always far better than the crap you're referring to that we've been getting. It's not uncommon to get characters that actually do hate a person and only warms up sometimes but isn't a tsundere. Similarly, you can get characters that clearly hate a person then slowly warm up to that person as the story progresses, which is an example of a tsundere that does not obviously start as one. Since tsundere is not "needed" in the same way as harem or "preferred" like in romance, when it appears in other genres, the writers can actually make her more than just an angry girl. As a result, you get very clear indications between characters who are legitimately angry and characters who are tsundere. If you used harem/romance standards, both would be labeled tsundere but for some reason one is written 100x better. Regardless of how you wish to define one though, Mii's character as a tsundere is far more apparent and clear from eps ~15-25 compared to the start. Whereas her previous balance of tsun and dere was 99-1, it's now roughly 50-50. The change in her attitude (which you did not reach) is pretty blatant. So, you can argue she was a tsundere from the start but then the writers changed their minds about making a copy of some loli tsundere from some harem/romance genre.

All of this implies that you can't have a badly written tsundere Or if the tsundere is badly written, and it isn't a romance/harem anime, then they somehow become not a tsundere. It just isn't true. You have poorly written Tsunderes (Louise from ZnT) and good ones (Rin in FSN). But they are still tsundere lol. You can't just classify a "real tsundere" as one thats written well, or one within a certain type of anime.
