You disliked Angel Beats! that much? The ending wasn't great, but I wouldn't rate it lower than a 6.

Moshidora was interesting. Nothing too big so far. Hopefully the management and baseball stuff get to be pretty in-depth.
Also Hanazawa Kana's voice sounds kinda weird on Yuki. Like I'd picture Yuki with a slightly deeper voice I guess. *shrug*

That's what he said after I rated it a six when I watched it last month.

I just finished reading the Battle Royal manga, I have to say it was really, really good, but man it had some messed up moments... overall though if excessive gore dosn't bother you I suggest reading it (although, I dare say I don't recommend reading it in public)
Also I'm going to start watching Angel Beats, I watched episode one and it looks good, but I guess we'll see.

If you do watch it be prepared to do one of the following:
1) Never ever talk about it.
2) Talk about it and like everyone else (including the creator) pretend like you know wtf is going on and tell everyone that doesn't that they "just don't get it".
If you consider references that go no further then naming the title or the names of philosophers, to be the height of intellectual fullfillment then by all means watch it.
Seriously that show was so pretentious. I think the only thing more full of itself then that show was the french movie Caché. A black guy randomly bumps into the main character on his bike and suddenly it's a critical analysis of racism in modern france. I echo everything said here... there are lots of shows that are genuinely intellectually stimulating. Ergo Proxy is not one of them. If you're considering Ergo Proxy, watch Ghost in the Shell instead.
Ghost in the Shell was bland and generic. It barely touched on anything "intellectual" zzz.
I don't understand why people give Ergo Proxy so much flak about being "pretentious." There were definitely themes and meanings to a lot of the references, and I don't pretend to understand the meaning of referencing random Incan mythology names, if there is any, but there's plenty of references with meaning that add to the show's plot and message to make it worth it. I agree with the pacing being slow and a bit excessive, and yes, maybe there were a lot of references thrown in for the sake of it, but to pretend the entire show had no meaning is just silly.
Edit: This is an OK summary of it IMO. http://notcliche.com/shinkai/ergoproxy It's like literary analysis, oftentimes, the viewer/reader makes more of the work than the author intended, but that doesn't mean the author intended nothing to begin with. For example, I think the explanation of Real's name in the linked blog is a bit shakey, as is the whole "past, present, future" thing (fits really neatly if and only if you want it to, collapses otherwise), but you can definitely see that it makes some sense at a larger level.
Is Ergo Proxy comparable in terms of philosophy to something like Nietzsche? Plato? Probably not. But again, to call it fake intellectual porn is willfully ignorant.

It starts off really awesome. Sharp decline though around episode sixish.
Also apparently the Madoka ending was so good, that it was enough to raise its score on MAL by .44 and put it into the top 10 animes of ALL TIME.

Most people only rank shows once they finish them, and the influx of people finishing the show (apparently with high scores) brought the score up.
Also, everything is overranked immediately after it ends, so Madoka will almost certainly fall fairly fast. I think it will still be top 30 by the end of the year though.
Edit -- man, I'd take that Ergo Proxy source more seriously if their analysis of Haibane Renmei wasn't so bad :/

That's a good point. But still. It was 8.59 the other day. Now it's 8.93. So obviously the ending didn't kill too many ratings (like mine).
|
Yeah, but again I'm pretty sure that's due to more people finishing the series, not more people going "zomg that ending was amazing time to up the show to a 10".
Edit -- and I don't think the ending killed too many ratings either, so that can't hurt. The people who were upset by the ending are as far as I can tell a vocal minority.
|
I don't ever rate an anime till I finish it (other than special cases like One Piece), and I imagine its similar with other people. Anyway, I don't think Madoka's ending was enough to "kill" its ratings, anyway. It wasn't a great ending, but it wasn't Berserk-anime's ending, either.

Yeah, but what I'm trying to say is that since people are still rating it highly (68.4% of users gave it 9 or 10), the ending obviously wasn't bad enough (amongst the general consensus) to sour everyone's taste.
That, or they didn't care. Or most people are fanboys (most likely outcome). Or most people haven't seen and/or rated it yet.

Nope, whenever there's a sudden rating change at the end of the show, that's due to people finishing it. Almost all ratings for Madoka at this point are from people who finished the show.
Also, the ending wasn't bad at all imo.

Like I said, the ending obviously wasn't bad enough to sour everyone's taste. Sure, the ending wasn't good, but it wasn't something like Berserk's ending. Additionally, look at all the people who give Lucky Star scores that are greater than 1 on MAL. MAL ratings cannot be trusted.

Sentenal's been hurt.
Weren't you the one that never gave Lucky Star a chance after the 4th episode?
*ahem* After the 4th episode.....director changes.
And to be honest, the entire pacing changes.
But I guess I'm talking to a brick wall, because I'm sure you'll probably still hate it. Hahahaha.

I don't even think that turning it into an awesome mecha show could save it in Sentenal's eyes.

Hahaha. I seriously don't know if I'm an irregularity. A lot of the stuff you guys watch I end up missing out on.
I think after you guys recommended just watching Clannad, I went off a major tangent.
If anyone notices my posts in this thread...a lot of time it's just status updates on new animes that I've watched. lolz

But with those characters? And that art style? Tough call.
@ ZNF: I think most people here like Lucky Star. Sentenal is notorious for hating it. I thought it was all right but nothing worth recommending, unless you like parody comedies.
