i think luffy and cobys relationship is supposed to shadow roger and garps.
although luffy has a devil fruit power already, i dont think coby is supposed to have one. hes just a younger version of garp, seeing as he already has the ability to control haki.

I felt Smoker and Luffy paralleled Garp and Roger a lot more, since Garp and Smoker has at least cornered their respective counterparts in some way. I think it was also noted that Smoker was content with staying at Vice Admiral, similar to Garp.
It would be great if Colby would take over Sakazuki's position as Fleet Admiral.

I think that Coby is really supposed to be Luffy´s Garp. Smoker can work with Luffy if they have a common enemy, but Coby hates pirates on principle and would fight the Strawhats even while he´s friends with them.

well, he did attempt to stop luffy from getting to ace at the war, although he got his face bashed in.
if its a question of being a marine vs helping luffy, i think he chooses marine.

Meh I wouldn't worry too much about creating parallels to the degree. It'll be a parallel when it makes sense. I personally just think that Coby is supposed to represent the new justice for the marines and will probably be a fleet admiral at the very end of the series after everything. Coby will be fighting on luffy's side at a war at the very end, 100%, that's for sure.

Agreed. As long as sakazuki and similar minded marines of that generation is in charge coby won't unquestionably do their bidding as he showed during the great war when he tried to stop sakazuki. I'm pretty sure he's striving to reform the marines as well with his own sense of less moraly questionable justice. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want the position of 'warlord' for pirates, for example. Expecially not horrible ones like doflo who commits atrocities as one.

Wasn't coby in the One Piece luffy special (Anime) a captain. I know it's anime so not cannon, but I can't imagine them deciding coby to be captain without asking oda what his plan is for coby after the timeskip. So I guess we can assume he is captain right now.

I think people are being too hasty with Ace's fruit. I don't think Luffy will ignore it because Oda usually does nothing without a reason, but I also don't think anyone will eat it any time soon. What I do think will happen is that luffy will acquire it somehow and save it for a while, possibly until the very end. And I think the fruit will then have some kind of important role in the end of OP, something like using it to kill BlackBeard somehow or maybe sacrificing it for some reason.

I was kinda under the impression that cutting fire was a specialty of Wano swordsmanship rather than his df power.

1) no one being able to predict Oda that well so far, so seems unlikely

But if it true, meaning within 2 years buggy grow so much stronger, from weakling into level of 7 warlord.Maybe even faster growth than Strawhat gang within the 2 years?? I am not sure, but I remember when buggy was introduced as a big boss in east blue saga he can still fight against luffy.
